  1. Wilmer ain't been answering the bell.
  2. Mets with a durn good chance to join this list this year: Bartolo Colon, Tyler Clippard, Kelly Johnson, Daniel Murphy, Juan Uribe, Yoenis Cespedes. Bobby Parnell has a chance to, also. Obviously, everybody does.
  3. Is there more turnover now than there was in the 70's and 80's? Or are rental players more common? Yes and yes.
  4. Seaver only got the honor of closing the regular season and opening the NLCS due to the sudden and spontaneous cancellation of the season's last game after the division was clinched in the penultimate.
  5. The thing is, LA fans aren't really LA fans anymore. Not the ones we grew up and found notable for making the scene and cutting out by the seventh. They've kind of become the hockey-est fans out there. Or at least, the hockey-est fans east of Boston. In the drunky-brawly sense.

But let's congratulate Fred Wilpon for his second first place finish in almost 30 years. We should all be thankful that he was probably read the riot act and more or less strongarmed into hiring someone like Sandy Alderson who wasn't gonna take any shit at all from Fred's stupid son, or else none of this season would probably be happening. It's a victory party. If it's not enough a victory for you, I understand. Don't come.

  8. It's also, in it's own know-nothing way, savvy. Bait a couple of angry callers to respond, and whammo, I WUZ RIGHT!!11!!
  9. Well, they've save their bullets for the post-season, I see.
  10. That would be sweet. I have half a mind to pinch-hit Matz.
  11. Seeing a single bezzrunner as an accomplishment feels too much like June. A cold, wet version of June.
  12. Jerry Seinfeld in the WOR booth.
  13. I'm justs worried about offenzz. Can't score runs (or get hits!) then the bullpen can't save us.
  14. Road teams entering the 9th down 4+ runs had lost 1,761 consecutive games until the Angels today.

    Rusty

I missed this, what with it's below-the-fold-ness by the time I logged on. Win one for Rusty, Mets. More importantly, win one for Rusty, everybody. He deserves it.

  17. Tom Glavine, totally, utterly.
  18. It hasnt seemed to get better. It hasnt seemed to have gotten better. Sheesh, Sandy, which Harvard did you go to? Anyhow... LET'S GO, MATZ! LET'S GO, MATZ!
  19. Worthy noting that Terry was looking to re-launch Yoenis this evening. Can't imagine contused fingers feel any better on a rainy autumn night like this one.

  21. Not quite as important, but still thrilling, is that we have 28 users willing to fill out a very complicated poll, as long as it doesn't require spending too much time watching eighties videos. Gilmartin has moved ahead in the battle with Goeddel. And poor Carlos Torres is going backwards, and now sits behind Bobby Parnell. If Matz can't go, that's goed news for Goeddel (tinged, of course, with some sadness). At least, according to our voters Our voters also say seventh infielder Uribe would likely yield his spot to sixth outfielder Kirk Niewenhuis. If Flores can't go, things get complex. Do the Mets feel good about riding Tejada through the playoffs, with Kelly Johnson as his backup? Dilson would likely join the team if they are short two infielders, but the possibility remains of an emergency call to Matt Reynolds.

And as disappointing and dysfunctional as they are, they're still a very good team capable of beating down anybody on any day. And yet they just went out and scored 4 runs total while losing two of three in Atlanta - 2 on solo HRs by non-starters, then 2 more in the 8th inning of the third game courtesy of Braves' errors. Sure, but I imagine they'll be more incentivized to hurt the Mets than the Braves. The first two games anyhow.
  23. Problem is that this ain't the Phillies. The Nats have every incentive to put some good lineups out there for the purpose of pride. And as disappointing and dysfunctional as they are, they're still a very good team capable of beating down anybody on any day. And the Mets have almost every incentive to rest their starters two games in three. They HAD every incentive, but wasted that by biting the big one against Philadelphia, so now they have to weigh the benefit of keeping their starters out of the rain and off of the wet grass against continuing to chase the home field advantage. Tough choices for Uncle Terry. I like the bonfire idea. Turn it into Homecoming.
