Mets sport sparkling new gear... [fimg=750]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/workout1.jpg[/fimg] ... swaggering new attitude ... [fimg=750]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/workout2.jpg[/fimg] ... and a stupid new micro-scandal as Matt Harvey is the only player not to show up to the mandatory gathering, attributing his absence to traffic.

If they carry Young, they could theoretically plug Laggy in center, Young in right, and Cuddy at first, with Tejada and Flores up the middle. But that's not gonna happen.

Mets vs. Kershaw this season: .145 / .175 / .164 // .339 Flores, at 3-for-6, had far and away the best performance against him. The only others to even hint at success: Tejada (2-for-7) and John F. Mayberry (1-for-5 with a double).

I'm far from Muffy's biggest fan here but I'd hesitate to sit him also seeing as he's going pretty good right now and for the unity thing. Not sure whatever platoony advantage the RH starter has over him is worth it. I reads you loud and clear, but the numbers are compelling. Murphy vs. LH: .254 / .284 / .349 // .633 in 134 plate appearances. Tejada vs. LH: .264 / .340 / .391 // .731 in 97 plate appearances. Flores vs. LH: .310 / .355 / .600 // .955 in 107 plate appearances. Six hunnert! This may be the biggest decision Terry makes!

"Jessica Mendoza is making baseball and broadcasting history tonight. And once again, she's concentrating more on the work she's doing than the ground she's breaking. She is about to become the first female analyst for a nationally televised MLB playoff game. It'll happen when Mendoza calls the Houston Astros vs. the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser, along with John Kruk and Dan Shulman, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN." Thanks for ruining a good thing with obnoxious product placement, MLB.com. And thanks for ruining a good thing with John Kruk, ESPN.

Terry has done an admirable job getting work for all his players over the last two months, but now that the post-season is here, he's likely going to his mainstays... but should he? The Mets open the series against (reportedly) Clayton Kershaw. There's varying degrees of argument to sit Conforto, Granderson, Murphy, and Duda agains such a formidable southpaw, but likely only Conforto will watch from the bench, in favor of Michael Cuddyer. One of Flores/Tejada, Lagares, and possibly Uribe will sit. That's perhaps as it should be. I think, if we were playing with cards and dice, there'd be no decision more sound than sitting Murphy and letting both right-handed infielders go one for the potential on-basing and the other for the potential slugging but I imagine Terry sees such a blow to Murphy's ego in game one as the sort of thing that could undermine his ego for the series and disrupt team cohesion. Maybe it is.

The 1991 Braves had young position players sprouting up at every position. The Braves may not even have their manager survive the off-season. I mean, yeah, the last time they were that bad, they became good shortly after. But most bad teams are bad shortly after, like the 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989 Braves.

Suddenly, The Post is a bastion of great baseball writing. Amid the orgy Barry Svrluga postmortems, I missed this home run by Dan Steinberg, in which he documents over and over Matt Williams go-to baseball quote, "Why did you go to him in that spot? He's our closer/eighth-inning guy/long man/etc." It strikes me that Rizzo letting Williams continue managing the rest of the season is almost as head-scratchable as Williams letting Papelbon continue pitching.

I don't get it. I disagree on all accounts. Obviously they're among the weakest bets, and that's why they've been dealt out and won't be seen unless there is at least one injury, but that sort of absolutest hatedown is unjustified.

The offseason hasn't begun with regard to rebuilding rosters, but it's certain started when it comes to coaching staves. Joining Matt Williams and his company of coachies in the search for jobs is San Diego interim manager Pat Murphy. The heavily muscled-up Padres, held up as an embarrassing contrast with the LOLMets last off-season, actually managed to win fewer games than in 2014, and two manager heads have rolled for it.

Interesting that the initial round of removees doesn't include the Stauffers and Monells who you know are going nowhere, but this middle class of guys guys they've committed to not carrying, on the one hand, but might be needed in a later round, on the other. Damn that inside reporting, letting us know who has been sent to Florida. So, 33 guys remain, of whom, one can be certain that Stauffer, O'Flaherty, and Monell are all but officially not to be included. Five hard choices remain. Ivy League choices. I'm at my wits end with Draft Kings ads, and then I stumbled upon this ol' quote from Rob Manfred, from a Charlie Vascellero article about players being forbidden from participating in daily fantasy games. "There is a clear legal line and, quite frankly, we spent some considerable effort and money to make sure we knew where DraftKings is in relation to that line and we're very comfortable with the idea that it's fantasy," Manfred said at the conference, organized by the SportsBusiness Journal. "Having said that, fantasy is a very important method of engagement, particularly with younger people." This is how they engage younger people?
