  1. I had assumed they were going with Pineda. Doesn't Tanaka have some health concerns?
  2. Philosophy and mechanics, baby.
  3. Had he got one more out, Colon would have had the second stingiest year with regard to walks of any Mets starter ever. The stingiest seems out of reach. Walks/9 by Mets' Starters 1) Bret Saberhagen, 1994: 0.660 2) Bret Saberhagen, 1993: 1.098 3) Bartolo Colon, 2015: 1.110 4) Rick Reed, 2001: 1.136 5) Rick Reed, 1998: 1.229 6) Ed Lynch, 1985: 1.272 7) Bartolo Colon, 2014: 1.334 8) Rick Reed, 1997: 1.339 9) Eric Hillman, 1993: 1.490 10) Tom Seaver, 1968: 1.554 And he led the league hands-down. The Mets have a very controlly staff. Walks/9 by 2015 NL Starters 1) Colon (NYM): 1.110 =#FF0000]2) Scherzer (WSN): 1.338 =#FF8000]3) Bumgarner (SFG): 1.608 =#0080FF]4) Greinke (LAD): 1.617 5) Kershaw (LAD): 1.625 =#FF0000]6) Zimmermann (WSN): 1.741 7) Harvey (NYM): 1.759 8) deGrom (NYM): 1.791 =#0040FF]9) Haren =#00FF40](MIA, =#0040FF]CHI)=#00FF40]: 1.826 =#0040FF]10) Arrieta (CHC): 1.886
  4. I think I'll beard up. I don't grow 'em thick or fast enough to look like the jabronis. "That's my Mets beard, Baby."
  5. Cueto ran up against the midseason Mets on June 26 back when Ruben Tejada was our third baseman. He gave up only two hits, lost 2-1 to Syndergaard thanks to a two-run homer by Granderboom.
  6. Juan Uribe = "Really Iffy" for Dodger series. You may want to adjust your rosters accordingly. Steven Matz = Throwing long-toss tomorrow, and scheduled to throw 90-95 pitches in an instructional league game on Thursday if that works out. Flores, I get the idea is expected to be ready, but I think Tejada may see more time. Jerry Blevins: no updates. I'm thinking that either that dream is dead (8% likelihood), or the Mets are hiding that ace way up their sleeves (2%).
  7. Round about mid-season, the AL East was totally up in the air. Nobody had made a move to secure it. But the only thing that was consistently there was Toronto's offense. Even more than the Nats in the NL East, they seemed like the tiger waiting to pounce. Unlike the Nats, they totally did. It's a dirty little wish, but I'm kinda looking for Pineda to get tossed from the WC game for pine tarring somewhere on his body.
  8. Will any prospective post-season homers be counted in these totals?
  9. Well, if you're looking for platoon splits to carry the day, then you might want to go with them both and to sit Murphy, by gosh.
  10. Ruben Tejada's got a .340 OPS against lefties (and .338 against righties). And he has the benefit of health.
  11. What's the appeal of Flores as a leadoff hitter?
  12. Ichiro took the mound today for Miami, giving up on one run on two hits in one inning. He struck out both of his trips to the plate, capping an ugly finish, going 1 for his last 20 and ending up with a .563 OPS. I'd've guessed he did well against the Mets, but he went .170 / .188 / .277 // .464, despite hitting his only homer of the season against lex Torres. Sixty-five MLB hits short of 3,000, which I imagine he really wants. Unsigned for next season.
  13. And the gilded top five is within reach by the end of next season. Saves in a Career as a Metly, Metly Met 1) John Franco: 276 2) Armando Benitez: 160 3) Jesse Orosco: 107 4) Billy Wagner: 101 5) Tug McGraw: 85 6) Roger McDowell: 84 7) Francisco Rodriguez: 83 8) Neil Allen: 69 9) Skip Lockwood: 65 10) Braden Looper: 57 11) Randy Myers: 56 12) Jeurys Familia: 49 13) Bobby Parnell: 37 14) Doug Sisk: 33 T15) Ron Taylor: 28 T15) Jenrry Mejia: 28 17) Bob Apodaca: 26 18) Frank Francisco: 24 19) Danny Frisella: 22 20) Anthony Young: 18... T65) Tyler Clippard: 2 T65) Carlos Torres: 2... T85) Logan Verrett: 1 T85) Addison Reed: 1 T85) Josh Edgin: 1 T85) Vic Black: 1 T85) Buddy Carlyle: 1
  14. Saves in a Season as a Metly, Metly Met T1) Jeurys Familia (2015): 43 T1) Armando Benitez (2001): 43 3) Armando Benitez (2000): 41 4) Billy Wagner (2006): 40 5) John Franco (1998): 38 6) John Franco (1997): 36 7) Francisco Rodriguez (2009): 35 8) Billy Wagner (2007): 34 T9) John Franco (1990): 33 T9) Armando Benitez (2002): 33
  15. Lucas, you want your Met homer title to be secure. Better hit one more, just to be safe.
  16. CurtiBOOMBOOMBOOM! Now let's call New York and get that hit thrown out.
  17. Cespedes switched out of the game and ends his season. .290, 35 HR, 105 RBI, .870 OPS
  18. Edgy MD wrote: Niese on for the unsupported pitching staff. Check that. They're getting defensive support from Doo.
  19. Bryce Harper, you are not going to be the batting average champ.
  20. Niese on for the unsupported pitching staff.
  21. Yes. One per 40 innings.
  22. Mets sure have the strikeout pitch working this series.
  23. It'll curious if this gets within reach as a no-hitter, if Terry goes for his best bull penners.
  24. d'Arnaud sure was pitched away for a guy in a deep slump.
