Trying not to speculate on what kind of cancer it could be, but man.

Don't like how that contract moves the bar, certainly. One benefit to setting out early in the offseason marketplace is that you beat the tide.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: I can't see that he's hurting anyone. In fact, he may be helping, because since his lack of a ballot reduces the denominator, it will take fewer votes* for players to reach 75 per cent. (*I know it will only reduce the required number by a fraction, but if 100 people, for example, declined to vote, then the required vote count would have a significant drop.) Doesn't add up. Getting 7 out 10 votes helps a player more than getting 6 out of 9. It's not that hard a job the writers are asked to do. But their industry is falling apart and everybody's going insane.
-
He's also being more than a little silly by suggesting that the limit of 10 is being held in place to keep Bonds and Clemens down. What planet is he on? And rather arbitrary in concluding that Clemens is a clear-cut case with or without the juice, but other guys aren't.

Now let's resume our discussion of Ben Zobrist
Edgy MD replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
Chad, you have more confidence in Lagares 2016 than Wright 2016? Youse guys seem to be forgetting that Tejada exists, leaving Flores plenty of opportunities for starts at second and/or third. Matt Reynolds and Gavin Cecchini have a good chance to debut, also. -
It's Mattingly's MO: Get a job managing job, open up the Mitchell Report to shop for a batting coach.
-
Yeah, I noted that too. I think in the Hardy Boys, Frank and Joe occasionally head into Bayport to stop by Henderson Hardware and consult with Jim on a case.
-
Something like that, yeah. But he's using his ballot to draw attention to himself and away from 10 or 11 or more outstanding baseball players, so that's some big league dipshitting.
-
He says he's turning in no ballot, rather than a blank ballot, so that doesn't count against the denominator, right?
-
Shouldn't bother me that they've lost more guys so far to minor league free agency than they've signed. Shouldn't, but does. Arias, who spent most of the year in Low A, certainly seemed to be an asset. Look at all these semi-quality non-tenderees. Everybody's cheap but the Mets.
-
Sign Alvarez and Alvarez!
-
I don't know. Monell does nothing but hit. If you have zero confidence that he can find his stroke against major league pitching, he has zero value to you. And considering that the Mets kept him on the roster, I'd guess they have something more than zero confidence.
-
Don't necessarily need a spot. They can give him a minor league deal. It's possibly all he's getting now that two teams (two good teams, but still) have deemed him an un-40-man-worthy asset.
-
I'd go with Wally for the exact same reasons. But the Mets seem to regard Teufel's managerial acumen higher than we do. It thought he pretty much dug his grave managing the 2007 Sand Gnats to a 41-94 season.
-
The most obvious internal candidate is Backman, certainly. Reports suggest Teufel is a favorite, so maybe he could transfer to Terry's side, with Wally becoming the third base coach. Notable that Geren also serves (served) as catching instructor, and with two young, not-completely polished catchers, that job probably won't be left vacant. So somebody else might enter the orbit, possibly minor league catching coordinator Bob Natal or a return of former bullpen coach John Debus, currently serving as minor league pitching rehab coordinator.
-
I get the idea that the Mets feel that they have a way around those rules. Lose a draft pick, drop your first round money in the foreign market. Artificial market constraints stop you from adding to your system that way? Trade for Dilson Herrera. I'm sure they'd like to keep their picks if they can, but it's not like development has to be arrested. Asides, they get a pick back if they lose Murphy (Sign Murphy NOW!!!!) anyways.
-
Fowler's a pretty good player. Could certainly do well by making a little more contact.
-
1. He's from San Diego. 2. I imagine a lot of his connections are with West Coast organizations. 3. He's been stuck behind Terry for a while, and Terry just got a new contract. 4. He interviewed for the Dodgers managerial opening, so maybe made some nice impression and riding side-saddle for a rookie with a billion-dollar roster may be a better perch for the next opening. 5. Maybe the DJs offered him mo' money. 6. Probably better not to sit still too long as a bench coach. Inertia's a bitch. The Mets get off to a bad start in 2016 and their staff gets gutted, Geren's operating out of Tuscaloosa. He's got a new honeymoon period now in LA and a whole new bunch of contacts to be made for the next job.
-
Ken Rosenthal reporting that Bob Geren is leaving his role as Mets bench coach to work in the same capacity for Dave Roberts and the Dodgers. The Dodgers were reportedly impressed by how level the Mets' bench remained last year when the dugout was bloated by the Mets 37-player roster, as well as it's ability to maintain natural wood appearance despite being constructed from recycled plastic composites. I wouldn't have said so five years ago, but I'm rooting for Wally. I, for one, will miss those beefy forearms. Centerfield wrote: In 2012 two of those All-Stars were anything but cheap. Matt Cain made $15.8 million. Lincecum made $18.25 million. They also spent $8.5 million on their closer. Sure they paid these guys as they matured and got their leverage, but he Zito deal goes back to 2007 and hurt them pretty much immediately. They survived it because they were better than it. Hopefully, the Mets pay as they go also.
-
Centerfield wrote: Big market teams can take the chance to win it all, and absorb the downside later. I don't think it has much to do with market, in the Giants' case, so much as their ability to grow two (now three) young cheap All-Star starting pitchers while the one they bought failed to deliver.
-
None of that accounts for your string of A-list model girlies, one after another.
