  1. It's a quarter after six. I can only assume that Cespedes has gone blind.
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: I never did hear the results of Bartolo's physical after his signing. I'd hate for them to discover that he got out of shape over the winter. Fartolo Colon isn't here for your bullshit.
  3. Almost CoB, here. Getting antsy.
  4. I wasn't actually endorsing the Dodgers angle. Trolling is bad.
  5. It would have been some serious big league trolling if the Mets did this while the Dodgers were in town.
  6. It wasn't so much a change to the roster size, as roster limits were still fixed at 25, but teams had long had the option of carrying 24 players, but only ever did for brief periods of transition, between transactions. During a period of labor hardball (1985-ish-through-1987-ish), the teams agreed with each other to carry 24 players only. Newspapers mocked them, saying that a team would cave and add a player as soon as one was needed, especially in the post-season. But the Mets marched in lockstep, carrying only 24 through the 1986 post season. This widely understood unofficial agreement was cited in the collusion lawsuits that followed. Peter Ueberroth was looking to be the commissioner that rode in on a white horse and saved baseball from itself, but his short tenure led to the owners ultimately losing three straight collusion suits. Now, as a rule, 25 guys get paid for the day, even if only 22 are in the dugout.
  7. I'm not sure what MFS62 means about MLB expanding rosters. Roster size has been set at 25 since 1914, hasn't it?
  8. Manfred says "No change for the foreseeable future." Or maybe he's just trying to dampen the spirit of your campaign.
  9. Candidate fatigue. Let's hope it works on Trump.
  10. Duda and Mejia are in the fold. Only Neil Walker and Jeurys Familia remain.
  11. And according to Mike "It Ain't About the Sneakers" Puma, the Twins are fishing around for Carlos Torres.
  12. Well, that game is like totally sold out. I can go with my wife if one of us sits in 132 and the other sits in 333. "Hi, Honey! Up here! I'm the one who's waving... wearing blue!!"
  13. Reiss: How did the Mets end up with perhaps the greatest group of young homegrown pitchers of this baseball era? McCann: Well, considering I own about 2.5% of the team, and those players were all acquired and developed before I made that powerless purchase, there are easily five thousand people more qualified to answer that. Probably a lot more. But I'll TELL you how...
  14. 1969 Mets are easier to market than 1970 Mets, I would guess. Rocky Dennis' life ambition was to complete his 1955 Dodgers card set. Even with stooges like Joe Pignatano. But how many people are trying to complete a 1956 Dodgers set?
  15. I think Flores will get his share of lefties at second, and if he's raking and Walker is flailing, performance will drive PT.
  16. I could convince myself that's George Theodore, if I squint hard enough, but I don't recall Theodore ever coming to the plate without his glasses, and photo evidence supports this. Maybe Gosger got a temporary uni assignment for the Mayor's Trophy Game, which was at Shea that year. That's s t r e t c h, but maybe.
  17. Yeah, I mean to note that also.
  18. I think Latino is a bit broad at this point, as the system and individual organizations have grown more sophisticated about sussing out ID fraud over the last 10 or 12 years. But obviously Cuban players can still be a mystery, hailing from a land scouts for US organizations haven't been allowed to venture. But beyond that, I imagine they see his as a skill set — both primary and secondary skills — as more vulnerable to time and her petty crimes.
  19. Mex17 wrote: No news and apparently not a sniff of interest from anyone about him. I imagine he's gotten sniffles, but he's holding out for a big league deal.
  20. TransMonk wrote: GrandersonWrightWalkerCespedesDudad'ArnaudConforto/LagaresCabreradeGrom/Harvey/Syndergaard/Matz/Colón This is what I envision out of the gate. All should be subject to change based on Performance. Certainly. Terry's stubborn, but not inflexibly so.
  21. There's probably a meaningful chance that Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera get dropped into their predecessors' slots and Terry picks up where he left off. 22. "Jacob is here... Steve Matz. Noah and Matt could not be here. I know they closed the Dallas airport. Matt lives in SoHo. I don't know whether they closed the Greenwich Village Airport or not." — Sandy Alderson on Matt Harvey's no-show at the BBWAA Dinner
