That's who.

He's just asking. But yeah, somebody's going to have to be the left-handed bat off the bench. If not him, then it's Ceciliani, and then we're back in the problems thread.
-
Considering how his season closed, this Cespedes physical is no mere technicality.

Dear Mets, It's a few feet of snow out there and all, but if there's anything I can do to speed up this whole physical thing, let me know. Love, Edgy
-
Crap, they're coming in last, aren't they?
-
We still haven't quite worked out how crazy Cespedes is, and how counterproductive that may or may not prove to be. Terry still seems to be learning on the job. That he got Harvey to back him down on what may likely be the biggest decision of his managerial life still seems unsettle to me. Their AAA team is 2,500 miles away, offers a hitting environment that can teach prospects bad habits, and has a raw sewage backing up into the ballpark. On top of the above-mentioned lack of range up the middle, the two backup infielders are recovering from broken leg bones. Miami is probably a lot better team than we saw last year.

In my blizzard-induced idleness I stumbled across the promotional video to "Caught Up in You" by 38 Special (who apparently never used a period in the name, like the gun would have). In the video, drummer Ed VanGetson (at least, I think it's him — there were two drummers) wears an Atlanta Braves jersey. And since the Braves of that vintage wore numbers on the front, I was able to make out that he was wearing a "36." (You'd perhaps expect a "38.") Which 1982 Brave was being paid tribute to, but Carlos Diaz! This may quite not count as a Mets-in-Popular-Culture sighting, but it made me happy to think on the late and lamented Señor Diaz. Right here on this latest update as I wait for the Mets to make the Cespedes transaction official.
-
Flores needed the reps, anyhow. Second-stringer on both of the corners and third-stringer up the middle works for me.

Ran into this on fb: They left out the Detroit and Chicago bluffs. Frayed Knot wrote: - if he doesn't exercise the opt-out it almost certainly means Lagares goes at some point. Maybe they could handle one more year of making him the 4th OF they're not going to hang on to him for long in that role as his contract starts to get more expensive waiting for the Cespedes deal to run out. They could still deal him this winter although I doubt they want to sell low or depend too much on Conforto just yet. As noted above, there's also the possibility of transitioning Cespedes to DH (should the universal DH come to pass), opening up more room in the outfield for Lagares and Nimmo. Or Conforto or Granderson to DH.
-
I'm OK right now with keeping all the soldiers if that's budgetable. Lagares finished the season well as platoon outfielder/defensive replacement with Cespedes swinging between left and center, and I think that's a perfectly workable way to continue and open the season with. Injuries may likely press somebody into more duty at some point anyhow. Plus 15 games with the DH. Also worth celebrating: they closed their deals with Duda and Mejia.

It's been a few crazy Cespe-days. This is going to be one of those Cespe-nights. Really trying to stay up until the Mets confirm this baby, but I'm guessing official confirmation won't be coming forthwith.

2015 Tabloid Cover Derby Round 5.0.2 Semifinal Round 2
Edgy MD replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
Tomorrow's back page may be the first big Derby entry launched in 2016. -
There are worse morning-after realizations than Carlos Gomez, I guess. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Who goes away? Initially, Eric Campbell. De Aza drops from the rotation and becomes a bench player.
-
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Whom would you have selected? All the other relievers seem a lot younger/interesting/more claimworthy. Well, I like to think I'd've dealt somebody in the couple of days while this deal was pending. But apart from that, Campbell or Walters seemed summit more removable. Campbell's been kicked down the depth chart twice already this offseason and it looks like a third time with the apparent Cespedes signing. I imagine he'll get DFA'd next.

BOOM! Chakalaka.... BOOM!

I know, man, and it's really freaking me out. Torres may seem expendably after his lumpy oatmeal of a season last year, but his absence will really leave an experience gap in the back of the Mets pen. I'm slotting Morris in there as he's the next ranking right-handed reliever on the 40-dude roster, but it's just as likely to be a converted starter (Montero?) or an NRI guy (Henderson?) grabbing that slot.
