I missed this transaction a few weeks back — not a single media outlet that I can find carried a note about it — but catchers tend to get phone calls as February rolls around. Rohlfing was part of about a half dozen minor league vets brought in late in 2015 to help out Las Vegas and Binghamton squads badly sapped by the Mets beefing their roster up to 37. He didn't do much to help as Vegas tanked down the stretch, losing a solid lead in the standings and failing to qualify for the playoffs on the last day. He joined other unsigned vets in Tokyo and Hong Kong this offseason for the Premier12 World Baseball Tournament. The US took silver. He's recovering from a torn labrum and subsequent surgery. I don't think he's expecting to break camp with the team.

Listen, that's twice I got invited to camp as a non-roster player, and that's twice I've pitched my way out of the minor leagues and onto the Mets roster. [fimg=450]http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/files/2015/01/Carlyle-Buddy-H-1024x682.jpg[/fimg] Yeah, I got hurt, but I've been invited back as an NRI ... huh-gain, and the third time is money. That's my story for me in 2016, anyhow. What's yours?

The Mets' intrasquad scrimmage went down today. Team Blue (who I bet big on) defeated Team Orange, 4-3. Juan Lagares went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a stolen base. Homers were also hit by Dilson Herrera and T.J. Rivera. Unfortunately, as the case usually is in these situations, all three homers were given up by Mets pitchers. Scrimmages have a way of evening things out. Logan Verrett and Josh Smoker both tossed two scoreless innings. Wilmer Flores was scratched due to illness.

It's no walk in the park, trying to become the first Xorge in big league history. I grind it out for four years in college, five more in the minors, show a little pop, and finally earn a chance at big league camp. Not bad for a guy from Tijuana with a name Edgy has misspelled in the roster thread since, like, forever. So, that's great winter news, and I'm digging it while playing winter ball. And HEY, my team's good! We make the Caribbean Series final! And then I go and hurt my hand. It was feeling pretty xore, so I got an x-ray. FRACTURE! That's frustrating. But, you know, still! I got that camp invite! I'm on the radar! Right? Hello? Anybody? It's... Xorge... . Ceetar wrote: I'm very anti-relegation/promotion. Well, then, there we are. Ceetar wrote: I can't think of anything it really adds Well, there's the phrase I typed RIGHT BEFORE I INVOKED IT about disincentivizing tanking. Really, now.

I certainly don't argue for revenue sharing. At least, I don't argue for luxury taxes. I'm good with the opposing team a cut of the broadcast revenues for a particular game (rather than any pooling) just like they'd traditionally gotten a cut of the gate. And I equally don't stand for incentivizing tanking. All I said is that salary caps are awful. If you don't like tanking, join me in rooting for a regulation/promotion system. But man, look at us. All we all willing to just blow things up over poor Ian Desmond.

Saw one of those on the street on Sunday. On the interstate, in fact. It turned my head, but it sure seemed terrifying to think of a guy sitting that low to the ground, at interstate speed, with a three-point wheel base, and virtually nothing in the way of crumple zones around him.

Well, he wasn't a Met, so much as a Metly farmhand. Pretty cool that he has his initials and (former) number inked onto his glove like a 13-year-old.

The NFL has a puppet union. Salary caps are awful.

I can't see this as much of a battle. It's Ruben's job to lose. He made the post-season roster last year and Campbell didn't. Rightly so, what-what!

You may be shocked to see me still around, while Niewie and Ceciliani and Recker (swoon!) and Parns are all gonz away. I'm even on the 40-man roster still. Somehow, despite an unproductive 2015, the Mets never lost faith in me, watching the subtler stats that suggested I hit the ball pretty consistently hard, even if they weren't dropping. They sure dropped in when I was with Vegas, though. But I know, that's Vegas. I did have to cool honor of being on the receiving end of Bartolo's behind-the-back flip, though. Were the Mets right in standing by me, at least so far as to keep me around? I don't know. Maybe you do, but that would mean that you're about to say some sooth. Say it! Division Opponent threads haven't all been started. Just the Nats, I think. Pick an opponent and start us down the road of enemy knowledge. Let's get to the point where, when the Mets have a big series approaching, they come hear to know the enemy. Wifey Watch is not a one-man show. Pick a Met and learn the story of his spouse. Her humble upbringing, how they met, what she thinks of New York. Publicly accessible information only, please. No stalking. Portrait Threads. Man, that outfield portrait thread was fun. Too bad it's hard to find three outfielders in the same photo earlier than, like 2005. Come up with another type of photo and start a collection. Here are some ideas: "Plays at the Plate," "Manager Rhubarbs," "Mets with Their Kids," "Mets in Evening Wear," "Mets Mugshots," "Mets as Schoolboys in Kneepants." The possibilities for a series are limited only by your imagination. Minor League Teams need threads. We can't ask the Mets affiliates to follow themselves. Make this the forum it was born to be. Pick an angle or facet of the Mets world and start a bad-assed thread.

Steve Renko looks like he has some kissy lips.

Every year, there's somebody totally and utterly scrod by rejecting that QO. Desmond doing it on top of having rejected that long-term deal suggests he's got nobody to blame but the man in the mirror. But memories of the long-term offer are probably what led to his faith that that a bigger deal would be out there for him. Mets may have to calculate into their negotiations the downside of jumping in on Asdrubal Cabrera and not pursuing Desmond and waiting him out, but the downside of waiting, of course, is coming home empty.

Curtis Granderson leaves camp to deal with an eye issue. Boom! De Aza is our new first string right fielder.

Looks like the ever-impressive chin of Larry Elliott. [fimg=300:11419cbn]http://cdn1.bigcommerce.com/server3400/h5igti3r/products/8625/images/9336/img549__82076.1439087168.1280.1280.jpg?c=2[/fimg:11419cbn]

I think there was a YES/ELP group.

I stumbled upon a 1993 story reporting that Collins had been charged with embezzling money from a company owned by Gates Brown. Not sure how that turned out, but in Lunchbucket's SABR bio of Collins, Kevin is bragging about his relationship with Brown.
