  1. Bingo to celebrate their retaining the Mets affiliation by changing their name. "Yay, Mets!! Suck it, Mets!!"
  2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: This is an example of the typical modern American argument: Two diametrically opposed morons, blind to any nuance, and presented to an audience as though they have to choose with one side or the other. That's a really good point. Shame on me for playing that way. Gossage bundles a lot of issues, and they each deserve distinct consideration whether you are for or against his lawn.
  3. In a surprising turn, Bryce Harper, superstar choking victim, has come out strongly against baseball's alleged "unwritten rules" — particularly against those non-rule rules prohibiting players from celebrating their success on the field, lest they show up the opposition. “If a guy pumps his fist at me on the mound, I’m going to go, ‘Yeah, you got me. Good for you. Hopefully I get you next time.’ That’s what makes the game fun. You want kids to play the game, right? What are kids playing these days? Football, basketball. Look at those players — Steph Curry, LeBron James. It’s exciting to see those players in those sports. Cam Newton — I love the way Cam goes about it. He smiles, he laughs. It’s that flair. The dramatic.” That's something. I mean, he's supposedly one of the two best players out there (though he wasn't my MVP vote last year, no sir). So his voice has weight. And he's going to be around a while, and pretty soon earning something like $40 (FORTY!) million a year. But revolutionaries must fight their way through the old guard, and in an impressive turn of events, the same day that's published, Rich F. Gossage, speaking to the same outlet (!), stepped up for the old guard. “Bautista is a fucking disgrace to the game. He’s embarrassing to all the Latin players, whoever played before him. Throwing his bat and acting like a fool, like all those guys in Toronto. [Yoenis] Cespedes, same thing.” That's right. Yoenis. Goose not only went at Cespedes. He, descended from the Gossages of Lincolnshire, put his rep on the line to defend the honor of all righteous Latin dudes of yore from all Latin American countries, having their image sullied by these punks. He also took the time to get pissy about nerds (NERDS!) ruining baseball with their computers, roiders, and the wimpy new collision rules. These kids today, he suggests, couldn't hang back in his day. Feel free to consider the evidence as you entertain that argument. 4. Dodgers: Chinny Hu for some guy from the minors.
  5. A challenge trade we lost: Angel Pagan for Andres Torres and Ramón Ramirez.
  6. I wouldn't put Harvey over dG. deGrom had the better 2015 and certainly the better 2014. But there's two openers, so they can each get one. Bizarrely, this year, the opener and the home opener are scheduled a full rotation turn apart, with only one game in between. So they can open with a two-man rotation, if they want, and give both featured starts to the same guy. But I reckon that won't happen.

  8. 3/30/2015 was also Cory Mazzoni and a PTBNL to the Pads for Álex Torres.
  9. 3/30/2015 is Matt den Dekker to the Nats for Jerry Blevens.
  10. Last trade with Atlanta, with the Young deal off the board, is Smelly Johnson and Juan U-RBI for John Gant and Rob Whalin'. That, I guess, is the 8/24 deal.
  11. You think of Mike Nickeas, he only known Met whose father played in the NASL. Last trade with Detroit: Luis Cessa and Michael Fulmer for Yoenis Cespedes. That's our July 31, 2015 dealio.
  12. Last trade with Atlanta: Eric Young, Jr. for Cash Money: 8/30/15.
  13. Last trade with Oakland: Eric O'Flaherty for Dawrin Frias. I guess that's 8/4/2015.
  14. On a London commuter train, a widowed doctor meets a pretty young woman. The doctors' young son provides the icebreaking and they flirt before both dozing off to sleep. They wake up further down the line and slowly realize that the train is missing stops, and the driver and conductor have disappeared. It's a runaway! The emergency brakes aren't working and only three other passengers remain to share their apparent doom — a priggy businessman, a hostile young Russian immigrant laborer, and a stylish, classy grandmother. Can this Gilligan's Island band thrown together by fate stop the bloody train before it gets them and a whole bunch of others killed?! Watch and find out! 15. Bleh. I'm wrong even when I'm right.
  16. We've definitely dealt with them since the 2001 selloff of Wendell, Cookie, and Pratt, but I'm a-struggling with recalling when.
  17. Well, if he hasn't gotten much of a chance against lefties by then, it likely means everybody is performing highly (good problem to have), or he's otherwise failing utterly even against righties (a worse problem to have) I'm sure he'll get a chance.
  18. The problem with that is that Terry has a really good option in Juan Lagares, that improves the defense at two positions and smacks lefties well. But Terry has the other alternative available of sitting Granderson. They're in a pretty good position to let performance dictate.
  19. Apart from the one, there may be a future second-baseman, third-baseman, or center fielder among them.
  20. FanGraphs has gotten into the act. The good news is that they go deep and have some names you won't see anywhere else. The perhaps weird news is that, however they crunch their numbers, it's really different. They have a strange ranking system that really bumps lower-level guys with little (or no) professional experience up high, and John Gant, who was widely looked at as a second- or third-tier prospect by most other rankers, was ranked as the Braves' second-best prospect by FanGraphs, and they openly state he would've been the second-best with the Mets too. Maybe they're doing this right and everybody else is wrong. Hope not, at least with regards to Gant. Interesting how Marcos Molina remains in the top ten despite being out of the year. And man, it's raining shortstops down on the farm. Click the link for some pretty thorough analysis all down the line. 1. 21. I'm young, strong, left-handed and I appeared in the majors as a fully formed, complete, ready-to-perform-at-top-value hitter. The Mets haven't had one of those since Ike Davis. What's'a matter? Did I same something wrong. Well, I'm sorry. Stop ogling my mother. It pisses me off. Am I ready to rock? Because sophomore regression is a real thing? What's my 2016 going to look like? Because I feel excitement, but also feel pause. I'm Michael Conforto. 22. Rangers gave us Mike Nickeas for Victor Diaz, part of what I think is the Mets' longest active trade tree.
  23. Shinjo and Relaford for Estes.
  24. Damn, so close. IT FULFILLED ALL THREE HINTS!
  25. Orosco 2.0 for ... Smiley Joe. No, wait. McEwing!
