OK, yeah, I'll go. Dropped now to, at best, fifth on the lefty reliever depth chart, and perhaps 10th (behind deGrom, Harvey, Syndergaard, Matz, Colon, eventually Wheeler, Montero, Verrett, and Gilmartin) on the starting pitching depth chart (possibly Pimentel, also), Below doesn't see time all summer, but gets a call up in September to save some arms for October. He throws 4 2/3 innings, gives up two runs, and cashes a big league check. Sometime over the summer, the mystery of his relationship status is solved.

Me too. I'd just retrofit my Accord so it could travel underwater or nitro me out of a tight spot. It's all about the accessories. I might look into a flux capacitor too.

Hey, I'm Duane Below, a veteran lefty with some big league experience who got a sniff or two last year. They farmed me out and I pitched effectively (effectively!!) in Vegas to the tune of a 2.19 ERA split between the rotation and the pen. I even won a PCL Pitcher of the Week Award! Then things went pear shaped. Or nashi-shaped. I asked the Mets for a release because Yokohama Bay Stars were inquiring after me, and you know, the Japan Central League pays better than the PCL. Maybe the Mets got a little compensation for that act of generosity. I don't know nothing about that. But it was a risk for them and me, because I'm a lefty, and I may have come in handy before all was said and done in 2015. But man, over in Japan ... “I’d like to use him quickly. I’m counting on him,” said BayStars manager Kiyoshi Nakahata. Yeah, right. I got into one game. ONE! I pitched and inning and a third, and walked five. FIVE! Know how many runs scored? FIVE! It was one and done in the Land of the Rising Sun for yours truly. Since then, when a gaijin pitcher gets his head handed to him in Japan, they call him a “Below.” I don't know what happened after that. Maybe I was hurt. Somebody probably wrote it down, but I can't read Japanese. So here I am, back in the USA, where I frankly kicked azz last year. But that strange detour has led to suspicion. I understand. But suspicion cuts both ways. What do you suspect for me in 2016? Have arm, will travel!

It's pretty 'fusing how somebody has to wait until just about everybody else is in camp to sign a contract, but still gets three years.

Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced today that Colorado Rockies’ shortstop Jose Reyes has been placed on paid leave pending completion of his criminal proceedings in Hawaii, pursuant to Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Section III.C.2 of the Policy permits the Commissioner to impose a paid suspension pending resolution of the legal proceedings or an investigation. Upon resolution of Reyes’ criminal proceedings and the completion of the Commissioner's Office's investigation into the incident, Commissioner Manfred will make a decision whether to impose discipline on Reyes. The Commissioner's Office will have no further comment on this matter until a final disposition is announced. Trial scheduled for opening day.

Checking now, and he hit 12 in the Sally League back in 2007. He added 20 stolen bases that year also. Ranked the 26th best prospect for the Rays that year! (And in fairness, the Rays were pretty stacked at the time.)

Speak some sooth for Antonio Bastardo!

OK, time to start getting under the hood with these. What do you think Dario brings this season?

That's actually a story from December. The only news here is the players showing up to camp and facing the media. As the rules of PED suspensions absurdly relieve the team from their salary obligation toward the player, a PED suspension for Howard but be just about the best news the Phillies could hope for.

It's great that there have been many more recent and higher-profile Venezuelans (infielders in particular) since Concepcion, but he still holds his lofty place among them in the hearts of his countrymen. I'm joking. 52 — and presumably the parking spot marked by the number 52 — belonged to Carlos Torres last year, and this year belongs to Yoenis Cespedes who clearly punches in a very different weight class.

I like that it's parked next to Harvey's ding-a-ling. Harvey thought he was coming to camp and making a statement with his ride, and it ends up looking quotidian next to his neighbor's toy racer. If you're going to be ostentatious and gaudy and wasteful, dice Céspedes, at least show some panache.

Carlos Torres has a different ride from last year. [video:3kef8s6y] 1.7K reactions · 964 shares | Yoenis Cespedes came to camp today in... WWW.FACEBOOK.COM Yoenis Cespedes came to camp today in this car New York Mets [/video:3kef8s6y]

A deadly week we're having.

Well, Sundays at home suggest approximately 7.5-8.0% of the time. Is that overkill? Seems to me like the day a novelty uniform rolls out generally anyhow.

Looks like the 1986 threads are going to be the 2016 Sunday home standard.

Apart from the minor swap out below, we're updating here to reflect new number assignments. I have Gomez and Carillo both wearing #71 depending on the source. Let's clear that up. He's turned down a lot of money on the road to where he is now.

The formatting/layout messed mine up to. And they seemed to end up with an earlier version than the book ultimately printed.

Got added the big-league roster the same day as Ron Swoboda and Tug McGraw. Not exactly a giant leap forward, but a leap nonetheless. Nobody wore the World's Fair patch like him.

What if he's got a no-hitter going?
