  1. THAT was gone off the bat. I don't know, but this Cespedes guy may be worth it.
  2. It's so un-Terry-like to just drop Conforto into the three-hole this early in the season. And he's handling it with aplomb.
  3. Kevin Plawecki, after taking one in the chest protector from Noah Syndergaard.
  4. Merged. Mags, it'll be easier to find as the year progresses if you edit the title to include rocking keywords such as "Division" and "Opponents." With regard to the OPS rolls, suddenly Wright is top 20 also.
  5. These threads were more fun with Fman, weren't they?
  6. That comment works nicely with the thumbs up from Donkey Kong.
  7. Here's hoping Zvon has another birthday tomorrow.
  8. Don't let the Phils suddenly feel life, man.
  9. deSon has been released from the hospital, and deGrom is throwing.
  10. Labels shmabels. cooby wrote: I wondered where everyone was. Maybe it's not just you! But you must be their lucky star I feel like I stayed the whole day with a lonely satellite.
  11. I've had an internet outage most of the night. All of sudden, it starts working, and BAM! two homers at the same time.
  12. cooby wrote: Noah? It happens. I'm not here to judge. I just worry. The nu girlfriend puts me off. And he's buying too deeply into the Thor persona. Plus talking big after a brushback. I know a lot of people loved that last one, but I don't want to see him swinging Harvey's way.
  13. I'm a little worried that he's put in an application for the Douche Society, and it's up to us to steer him right.
  14. I haven't seen you posting in some of these threads calling for a vision of the near future for my teammates. What better chance to show what a buncha know-it-alls you all are. I'm Noah Syndergaard, and I'm a monster. Want to know what you HAVEN'T had to worry about this season? Sophomore slumps. The Class of Fifteen — Me, Matzy, Conforto... Plawecki even — have been the best story so far in Sixteen. But that's so far. And as you know, so far ain't all that far. That said, there's a lot of crazy people out there who expect me to mow through the league this season. What do you expect? 15. Mets up 1-0 after one and there's like 17 fans in the park. What a tough time for Philly sports. Professional sports anyhow. Question for your consideration: could Villanova beat the Sixers?
  16. Josh Smoker, describing his second major surgery, to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff: "It was tore up pretty good, but Dr. [James] Andrews patched me up."
  17. The Mets have a nice collection of bullpen arms in Las Vegas, guys. And they've gotten off to a really nice start except for poor Dario Alvarez. Josh is smoking to the tune of a 2.25 ERA.
  18. Looks like he had Tommy John surgery in July 2015.
  19. Marc Valdes is the Mets' answer to Ted Cruz. 20. I think it was Marty Appel, his friend, who collaborated with him on his book. Here it is: http://research.sabr.org/journals/online/47-brj-1984/428-day-munson-taught-yankees-pr-a-lesson
  21. Chad Ochoseis wrote: I once read an anecdote about Thurman Munson - supposedly, he once deliberately dropped three third strikes in a game, so that he could throw to first to get the outs, enabling him to pass Carlton Fisk for the AL lead in catcher's assists. I don't know if I believe it - whatever Munson's faults, he never seemed to be the kind of guy who cared about individual records - but I know I read it. I think the tale goes that the press notes for the day noted that Carlton Fisk led the league in assists by a catcher. Munson thought this was a pretty arbitrary thing to praise the guy for, so he spent the day undermining the stat, and (I think) gesturing to the press box each time.
  22. And maybe MLB could come up with a "Family Medical Leave" status — that's the same as bereavement leave in name only, but doesn't lead to any premature punches in the gut when announced.
  23. Yeah, but pom-poms are cool.
  24. Hey, I'm Josh Smoker, and once upon a time I was Alfonso Soriano, sort of. I mean, I was a big-time compensation pick by the Nats when Soriano got signed away by the Cubs. But it didn't work out for me with the Nats, and frankly, I hated it. I DESPISED it. Toiling in the low minors in a crooked outfit like that. I confess, they didn't like me too much either, and I ended up in indy ball. And fuck it, I let it fly. I'm a lefty with high nineties heat, and those mopes couldn't touch my shit. So I'm back in affiliated ball. I played at three levels with the Mets last season, struck out 11 dudes per nine innings, and the Mets wondered what they needed to send defenders out there at all for, and they PUT ME ON A BIG LEAGUE ROSTER. That's right, I'm on the 40. I'm toiling for the 51s, working on my off-speed stuff, and while I got Bastardo and Blevins over my head, the Leathersiches of the world are thinning out, and you can call me Elton because I'm still standing. The world isn't going to wait forever for me to start my big league career, so I'm down here in Vegas pressing my case as hard as I can. I've got a badass closer name, I've got a bug-eyed girl who drives me wild, and I've got Jon Niese's old number. Things are looking up, but how are they going to play out? You be the judge.
