  1. I don't think he was fired for making a controversial or political point. (The Network used to have Rush Limbaugh on the payroll.) I think he was fired for making a political point in a nasty dehumanizing manner, one that was embarrassing to his employer. As locked in as folks are to their political sides, there IS a way to talk about an issue like the North Carolina law. That it's also a gross departure from the position of his employer is certain relevant, but it could be manageable. I tend to think that satire has way too outsized a place in our culture and in our discourse, and we've gravitated toward thinking that anything satirical is credible. Curt Schilling sure has. I've had a co-worker (VP level) forced to resign for far smaller transgressions in his social media life. (Come to think of it, I may get in trouble myself for a post from yesterday.)
  2. Lose the goatee-n-stache, Logan. You're too handsome to be looking like Tim Byrdak.
  3. McDowell to Weber: "Why don't try the curve, 'kay?"
  4. Mets knocking Weber out of the league.
  5. This guy does not look like a big league pitcher. Everything straight and up.
  6. Thanks for chasing, Frenchy.
  7. Adonis Garcia looking like a high schooler against Steven Matz.
  8. G-FaFiF being stroked on the air by Gary Cohen NOW!!!!
  9. That's a gsood adoption. Gso for it.
  10. Don't get me started. Every year, folks climb all over each other to write me off. Every strikeout with runners on base isn't a failure in the moment, but a testament to what I've become. But I'm not bitter. Maybe I'm not who I was. I don't know. But who I was and who I is are so tied up in myth, it's hard to get a handle on either. Every day, I'm still grinding. But, you know what, this thread is where we get a handle on all of it. The all star highs. The stenosis lows. The captaincy. The performances with Team USA. The Jeteriness. The pants of sugar. (Yeah, I hear that stuff.) The gold gloves. The throwing problems. It's all in the soup, and it's for you to say how that soup is going to taste before it all goes down. 13. Hittable Harvey lets two get back.

  15. I was here before them all. I was here before deGrom, before Syndergaard, before Matz. I wasn't here before Harvey, but I could've been. And no one was here before Colon. But you get my meaning. My meaning is that I won't be forgot. I'm the price San Francisco paid for a few months of Carlos Beltran, and eventually, I intend to make that pay off. But yeah, my elbow blowed up, and then the Mets blowed up. And now, the guy who back in 2013 first cracked a rotation of Niese/Harvey/Gee/Hefner/Marcum (MARCUM!) is trying to find his way back break into one of deGrom/Harvey/Syndergaard/Matz/Colon, and maybe some hot sexy Logan Verrett activity too. So I'm doing my rehab work, changing my arm angle, dating girls who are healthy for me (take a note, all you Synderharveys out there), and just trying to do things right while watching UFC dudes bash each other senseless. Maybe I'll never be what I was. Maybe I'll be BETTER, but what with the Thor-manes and deGrom-tops, there's been a decided baldy factor missing from the Mets' rotation since Gee went into exile, and I intend to fill that void. I intend to fill it and more. But baseball is hard to predict. Pitching is ephemeral. I just don't know. All this talk about arm angles and rehab schedules is just so... fluid. What's do you think is going to happen? 16. The guy I associated with that vow-and-run maneuver was future-Met Gary Sheffield.

    Arietta

Here's a holy crap for you: Counting the post-season, the guy is an historic 17-1 with two no-hitters in his last 19 starts. The one loss came to the Mets in Game Two of the NLCS, back when Daniel Murphy was eating opposing aces for breakfast.

You know, when ESPN suspended Curt Schilling last year, the first game he missed was Arrieta's Sunday night no-hitter. Somehow... [list:rdg7pq1h]Disciplining Curt Schilling : Jake Arrieta :: Spinach : Popeye[/list:u:rdg7pq1h]
  19. I was on the 40, and then I was off the 40, and now I'm back on the 40 again. History tried to consign me to the dustbin, but my arm is HEALTHEEE! And that's good for the Mets, too, because if there's anything every team needs, it's a blond relief pitcher on the fringes of the 40 with a stringy Florida country boy mullet. It's a good hockey look, you're thinking. Or maybe you're thinking I should be cutting a record with Jim Messina, or playfully harassing Dennis DeYoung for coming back to Desert Moon. But here's what you should be thinking: This guy has saved about a gajillion games at Binghamton. Sooner or later, we're going to need him to save one or two up in the big leagues. Maybe you should be thinking that there's a reason the Mets rostered me up, while leaving Matt Bowman to get swiped away. Maybe you should be thinking AT ALL!! So what are you thinking? 20. There's something more, though. There's something of the adrenaline junkie's desire to flirt with his own self-destruction in there.
  21. There's that Wright dude too.

Unless his accountants are douches too he should have enough to burn. bbrdotcom says he made over $114,000,000 throwing a baseball. Well, he's endured some massive lawsuits, though how they've played themselves out is beyond my ken. Schilling was previously on the other side of this when he called out Twitter users who made hateful posts about his daughter, outing them by name, leading to at least two of them getting punished — one losing a job (with the Yankees), and another being suspended from school.
  23. Fired by ESPN for posting too much stupid stuff on social media. What a dumb reason to go down. Especially for a guy who actually needs a steady paycheck.
  24. I looove the fact that the featured showroom item with this team is a four-headed lockdown bullpen. As if shutting down the other team over the late innings two days in five is the goal of the game. Hey, Yankees, you're starting with the endgame. A dramatically good closing unit is a luxury for a good team. Know who had a really good bullpen? The 1983 Mets had a really good bullpen.
  25. I'm Logan Verrett, and I'm striking out 7.6 batters per nine innings in this young season. Matt Harvey? He's striking out 4.7. So, you know, swing and miss at this.
