The Mets took you down last autumn, Cubs, and the Mets will take you down again. That's just how it is. That's how it was in 1969, and that's how it would have been in 1984, if the season went but a few more games. Lackey is 7-4. But Matz is 7-3. So...

I don't want to shoot a bullpen. I want to question the manager's deployment.

Yeah, I don't know what to do with that. But Familia got four consecutive days off, so he's well rested for.. something.

fleglph. Sweep.

DUBBLEBYJOHNSON!DOWNTOTHEIRLASTOUTBUTTHETYINGRUNISUP!!ANDIT'SBRANDONNIMMO!!OHMYGAWD!!!

Hallelujah! Two-run homer! Would have helped a little more last inning, but... life.

And I think Operation Chris Young is currently being planned for De Aza.

Two outs, runners on second and third. Tying runs. And De Aza up. Um...

No. BASEHITBASEHITBASEHIT!! HERE COMES D'ARNAUD!

Nimmo with a two-strike single! Tying run at the plate! Grandersong coming off the bench! Baker pulling Scherzer!! HERE COMES OLLIE PEREZ OMYGAWD!!!

Hey, one hit through seven. When you're trying to win, it's always nice to have that first hit out of the way. Gets the monkey off your back.

End of five. Good time to strike. LONG LIVE THE POST-MUNO ERA!!

The thing is, I don't even miss Murphy because of what he has become, but simply because of what he is. Five strikeouts already for the Mets.

I didn't mention this in the Wifey Watch thread, because things likely would have gone south, but Muno's girlfriend — at least his girlfriend this offseason — was.... sort of an outlier. My offseason attempt at comprehensive wifey data revealed her to be, on one hand, seemingly a nice, hardworking nursing student and, on the other hand, possessor of shocking proportions that just don't occur in nature. Had Muno stuck in the majors, and the girlfriend stuck with Muno, I imagine she would have instantly become instantly a thing. Like a thing and a half. Spectacle averted, I guess. I have a folder of Wifey Watch photos and try and keep it PG, but apart from a single head shot from the clavicle up, there was no photo of her that a gentleman keeps on a hard drive. Scandal could only follow. She's like the female Anthony Recker. In wishing Muno luck, I also wish his girlfriend luck in the nursing game.

I'm not personally concerned with the pitching, even with Bastardo. (Though I remain plussed with how Terry deploys them.) When offense fails, and you are constantly pitching in situations where giving up one run can so utterly undermine your team's chances of winning the game, you are that much more likely to give up four runs. Free your bats and your arms will follow.

There's that.

Granderson: hurt or not hurt?

Loney. Making Flores seem faster.

Hard to see a better option up to this point, though Lagares, Reyes, and Nimmo offer potential going forward.

AND THE TIGERS WIN! Half your work has been done for you, Metskis.

But you can shift your approach to a team that's homer dependent. Keep it away, and a good team a adjusts right back atcha and knocks singles and doubles to the other side. The philosophically adrift team chases, producing strikeouts, bouncing into the shift, popping out with runners in scoring position. If it was as easy as saying "drive the ball," they'd drive the ball. They're certainly trying to do that and it hasn't worked for several weeks.

Best yet.

He had been already removed from the 40, so this was purely about clearing room on the Las Vegas roster, specifically for T.J. Rivera, who was being activated from the DL. I can't say for certain, but Muno struck me as a man who suffered from Big Head Syndrome (aka Greg Brady Disease), or at least a head that outsized his performance. And so, in a pinch, he was let go rather than massaging the roster in any of the countless ways they do. Or, possibly, one of the countless ways they chose was to tell him he was Bingo-bound, and he asked for a release instead.

The Tyler Herron signing seems unremarkable. The Mets have shopped in Fargo for indy league help for the organization before (infielder Kevin Taylor, currently socking the ball to the tune of an .819 OPS in St. Lucie). Tyler is a former high pick (46th overall) of the St. Louis Cardinals, but peaked in AAA and needed three organizations to get there. But the Mets have an unsigned draftee pitcher named "Anthony Herron." Maybe he's a relative that they're sweetening the pot for by signing his brother/cousin/uncle. That wouldn't count against those stupid caps. That would be a sly move! Anyhow, the signing of Alonso leaves #31 overall Anthony Kay and fourth-rounder Michael Paez as the main holdouts from this year's draft class. Get inkin, Mets! Unconditionally released minor league infielder hit .148 during a 2015 call-up, a hot start in the PCL leading the Mets to reach out for him instead of Matt Reynolds during a summertime pinch. Tested positive for Drostanolone back in 2012. But it was 2012. We were all doing Drosto back then.
