Second walk for Giolito. Hopefully, he brought some of his wildness from AAA.

We head into this series facing a Nats team that, while not exactly a blacktop-melting menace, is effectively the hottest team in the league. Keith said earlier in the year that there certainly wasn't going to be Wild Card coming out of the West, but San Francisco has the best record in the league, and LA has gone a long way toward securing a Wild Card Spot. The playoff odds are already looking dramatic. Let's win this series. Loudly, if possible. Tough time to sit Flores.

Yeah, I'm trying to see this as a blessing. Who needs a glum, miserable, and ineffective Harvey hanging over the team like a tobacco-spitting storm cloud?

Thanks, Database Guy!

Bad math by me apparently, but that was the thinking.

I don't know what's going on with Harvey, but this sure spares him the added pressure of trying to figure it out in a matchup with the first-place team. With regard to the News back cover, I don't understand using text underscoring in a graphic design layout. It looks awful, and since they underscore the entire title and subtitle, it emphasizes nothing. At least use a lightning bolt, like in the "Bazinga!" graphic above.

Surprised Wilmer only has one start at short so far. Also surprised that Tatis didn't pull the trick off.

That's the military standard. At least, that's the standard for any (most?) US military uniforms in which the flag is worn on the right shoulder. The idea, if I've got it right, is that the field of stars should be in the position of highest honor.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a Suzuki GiDP.

I demand this game be put out of reach.

Granderson driving in somebody besides himself is a treat also.

Potential third basemen beginning with I: Chris Ianetta: 33-year-old Seattle catcher has three games at third in his big league career. José Iglesias: 26-year-old Detroit shortstop has 37 games at third in his big league career. Omar Infante: 34-year-old Kansas City second baseman has 107 games at third in his big league career. Potential third basemen beginning with X: Charles Xavier: Wheelchair-bound telepathic mutant has never played third.

Me too (a shih tzu), but I'm here! I mean, I'm here watching a game, but I'm here!

Yeah, it's kind of my thing with Terry. He gives up stuff.

So, do you feel like maybe they called up Reyes too soon, and sort of gave up four at-bats?

MFS62 wrote: A "sweep type"* hitter getting full extension and then hitting the ball a long ways reminds me of Dave Kingman. Later * = keeping the arms straight from the beginning of the arc, almost like a golf swing. Yeah, Kong liked to stand up straight, reach down and pick up the low pitch and golf it to who knows where. And Stanton has a pretty Kingmanian stat line these days.

One thing you can do is control the situation you face Stanton in. But Giancarlo is really a different hitter. Standing up straight and getting full extension on his swings, particularly the low pitch. It's like the long, loopy swing of a left-hander coming from the right side. There aren't a lot of hitters like that, and fewer that are successful. Flores is kind of like that, and Tim Wallach is the most prominent example I can think of. He can still be effective, but there are holes in that sort of swing, and I don't think he'll ever be as effective as he was.

Who made that comparison? I mean, my first reaction would be that Pence is a righty.

I guess nobody reads those photo posts.
