  2. Well, that means, that, in right field, we have Aaron Hicks. I can't imagine anything FSterling and FSusyn can do with that. Seriously, Carlos Beltran has long since displaced David Cone as the greatest deadline asset in major league history, right?

  4. I wouldn't throw in Dilson Herrera. I wouldn't throw in Danny Herrera. And I wouldn't send them d'Arnaud straight up. Jonathan Lucroy is just Jonathan Lucroy. Let's not buy him on impulse just because they've displayed him next to checkout counter and our blood sugar is low.

I feel like we just spent years waiting for a roast to cook, pulled it from the oven just as it was approaching done-ness, then turned around and flipped it for a day-old steakhouse burger. Like, it used to be delectable, but now... well, I guess it's calories. I wonder how the development staff feels at a time like this. Imagine the number of endless Nimmo meetings they've had over the years!
  6. All true. But giving up defense for offense is one of things teams making late kick to get back into the race find themselves doing. I mean, some team last year convinced themselves that Yoenis Céspedes was a center fielder. The crazy thing is that it worked ... until it didn't.
  7. I think the starting pitching still looks pretty great. Better relative to the league than they were at this time last year, I would imagine. I think the team's flaws almost begin and end with plating runners.
  8. Well, RBI are certainly what the team needs, but there goes our leadoff hitter of the near future. Hurry back, José Reyes.
  9. Yup, signed through 2024, but it's more affordable than some, controlling a productive hitter at $25 million per, as we're approaching the era when top hitters are going to get $40 million. The trick, of corpus, is him continuing to be something resembling a top hitter. Also, he achieves 5-and-10 status at the end of the season, so the Reds are motivated sellers. If Duda returns to form or the Mets continue to bank on Smith, they can flip Giuseppe at the end of the season. But as Keef insists that Céspedes is a cleanup hitter faking it as a #3, Vottiisimo would slot nicely into that spot in the lineup.
  10. Votto has supposedly grown into a very unhappy camper seeing the Reds falling apart. Whatever your position, Cincy needs pitching, pitching and perhaps a little pitching. It's unclear if the Mets still have enough redundancy to dangle.
  11. And he did as much as anybody to put them in the position for those games to matter. Pitching and pitching and pitching, carrying his team as best as he could, day in and day out. Refuse to scapegoat closers. They're only people. People put in the position such that, whenever they fail, it is the worst possible time, and there's nobody going to pick them up or bail them out.
  12. Not a lot of support for keeping batz in the lineup by revisiting (if only temporarily) Flores as the first-string shortstop.
  13. What happened to Jay Bruce's arm? If I'm talking to Cincinnati, I'm asking about Votto, not Bruce.
  14. It doesn't have to be lightning. It could be a tornado or a comet or a mudslide.
  15. Wondering how badly Asdrubal Cabrera's hurt, what's your immediate plan? Go big for a shortstop at the trading deadline? Don't go big, but yeah, get a shortstop? Call up Dilson, install him at second, move Walker to third, move Flores to short? Call up Reynolds, install him at short? Call up Rivera, install him at short? Call up Cecchini, install him at short? Call up Campbell, install him at third, move Flores to short? Kelly Johnson to third, Wilmer to short. Some combo of Johnson and Campbell at third Wilmer at short. Yeah, OK. forget Campbell. How about Ty Kelly? Install him at third and move Wilmer to short? Kelly's been in the outfield of late for the 51s, but he's still hitting. No defense is ideal wilt Wilmer at short, but here we are. Keep in mind that the Metsies are already short a man in the infield, carrying six outfielders and only five infielders the last few. That's not sustainable, so if they DL Cabrera, they might call up two infielders, and send down Nimmo in the meantime.
  16. Sure, but but backup closers are a luxury. If he gets traded, somebody else becomes the backup. It's not like the relief pitcher depth chart doesn't go 10 deep. And it's not like Familia himself didn't get the job after himself opening the season as the team's fourth option.
  17. My modest goal is to get more juice out of Ruggiano than the team got out of Rick Ankiel.
  18. Tyler Clippard back to the Yanks like a son of Al Leiter. What a hot potato that guy has become.
  19. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: So, um, yeaaaaaaah. Not exactly Carter-in-'85 tonight, huh? At this juncture, I'll take Paciorek-in-85.
  20. Not to endorse this particular trade, but I generally believe that relief is a luxury and its success is ephemeral. Never cling too tightly too it.
  21. I was watching last night's game on the inter webs. The Mets were up 2-0 when a serious thunderstorm came through. A thunderstrike fried our modem and I've been offline ever since. I'm borrowing a neighbor's network now. Everything's been good since then, right?
  22. "So, Justin, tell us about yourself. What are your h..." "Fishin', huntin', golf."
  23. That's a spokesman for Skoal, right there.
  24. Johnson not picking it like Loney.
  25. Bachelor in the booth! Married Bachelor, but still.
