Big blowout yesterday as the streaking second-half Scorps rode a 10-run first to a 13-3 victory. Marcos Molina threw three scoreless innings (no small feat in desert ball); Matt Oberste showed signs of breaking free from his malaise, going 2-5 with a double, and RBI, and a run scored (his average is up to .088!); the All-American went 1-4 with a walk and a run; and Champ Stuart went 1-5 with an RBI and 3 Ks.

The guy who missed out on a chance to start for the 2016 Patriots because he couldn't turn down 100 thousand smackeroos. Something less than a frozen rope, but a game winner it was.
-
Scorps down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth last night, but ended up rallying for the 4-3 victory. Guess who got the two-out walkoff RBI hit?
-
Poor Ian Desmond. He can't escape.
-
I also tend to think (almost complete speculation) that offering an extension to Walker back in August could have convinced him to play hurt down the stretch.

Centerfield wrote: I think the problem here is that you're not being honest with yourself. No, this isn't true. But you've insulted me again. For no reason. Again. And amazingly, made up a position I didn't take. Again. At length. Over and over and over. Over nothing. Because I disagreed with you. It's astounding. I have no way of engaging you. At all. I'll stop. I promise. I just don't have the time to deny all the garbage you throw at me. Not even close to enough.
-
Yeah, again. I'm sorry you're annoyed. I don't know how you can't see that it's relevant that a guy you're demanding be brought back is being incorrectly assessed. And that it's self-evident. Because it is. I try and be as brief as possible, because the more I write, the more you re-write and turn into something else. If I could type a single character, I would. That's the level of self-censorship I'm undertaking with you. But if I disagree at length, you twist everything I write into something I didn't write. If I disagree in brief, you're annoyed, because I don't give you enough material to twist into something else. It's pointless and exhausting. I'll just stay clear.
-
If you want to know why, ask why. It should be obvious, but if isn't you can ask, not open up on me. You chose the latter. Again. I don't know why.
-
I say what I mean fine.
-
Well, if you're annoyed, I'm sorry. I think it's relevant, and certainly not personal. Is there any way to acceptably disagree with you without you teasing it out like this and putting a chip on your shoulder? Because it's getting difficult.

2016 Tabloid Cover Derby Round 1.1.5 Mar 5 through Mar 31
Edgy MD replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
Worth noting the head-to-head action (no pun intended, but there you have it). The Daily News' YA GOTTA RELIEVE! is lapping the field with seven votes, while The New York Post's YA GOTTA RELIEVE! has been shut out. I think that's in part due to the photo they use seemingly showing him in a urinating stance. -
Centerfield wrote: Like I said, I don't really see why you think the distinction is important. Because you made a statement, and I thought the facts didn't support it. Does that mean an offer shouldn't be made? Of course not. Please don't try and play me into a position I haven't taken. It means, quite obviously, that his offer shouldn't particularly be based on a factor of "MVP-type numbers" when they weren't.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: And as much as we love Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo right now, I think we may have had similar feelings this time last year about Logan Verrett. ... and perhaps Sean Gilmartin.
-
Lugo and Gsellman's success last year certainly change the equation, as does Colón being a year older. But Wheeler's status isn't that different from where it was at the start year. Yeah, the target is probably closer than mid-season, but the likelihood of him coming back with enough to get a lock on a rotation spot is probably lower. And Harvey has to learn how to pitch with one fewer rib. So there's an argument for Colón, certainly, if not quite the same one as last year.

Centerfield wrote: I'm guessing fWAR doesn't adjust for the park seeing as you cite to two Phillies and two Rockies. Of course it does. And I'm pretty happy with my grasp of common sense. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: The defensive numbers only slipped because he was playing center (where, yeah, he ISN'T very good); if last year's numbers bear out, then he's still a great (and maybe still elite) left fielder... most likely for at least another 1-3 years. They slipped also due to him playing 27 fewer games and being hurt pretty much the whole second half.

VROOM SERVICE is much stronger punning. I can't complain about the bad without tipping my hat to the good. Or the better, certainly. VS definitely got one of my votes and I endorse it for your vote. -

Well, we can take our money, not go to Mets games, not buy Mets' shit, and not subscribe to cable and internet packages, and donate that.
-
I'm just a little bit surprised by this move. I mean he's 34, and whatever speculative future he has left may not be worth holding a roster spot that can be used to protect a minor leaguer from the Rule 5 Draft, but with their lefty-heaviness being what it is, I thought he may make it a few weeks into the offseason until that clears up a little bit. Anyhow, while Nimmo is first in line to move into his roster spot, in the real world, Ty Kelly is also an active candidate, among guys who are on the 40. And by the way, good for Kelly for showing enough usefulness to survive this purging. Oberste got his run up to 0-for-28 before singling in the seventh tonight. That Oberste outburst gets his average up to .034.
-
Matt Oberste up to 0-for-25. I'm wondering if the presence of Tim Tebow tends to get Scottsdale assigned the evening slot in most days' three-game schedule.
-
Sure, but that was with the Mets. Seaver may have debatably gotten jobbed in 1971, but the Reds didn't. On the Jenkins side of the ledger, he pitched 30 complete games that season. THIRTY!
-
José Rijo probably deserved more Cy Young consideration than he got in coming in fourth in 1991 and fifth in 1993, both times behind Atlanta Brave winners. In 1993, baseball-reference has him leading the league in Pitcher WAR behind his strikeout crown, and it's not even close. Not a lot of Reds have been serious contenders. Cueto came close in 2012 and 2014. Jack Billingham did good in 1973 and 1974, but that was behind an all-World offense. Tom Seaver, of course, was totally jobbed by Fernandomania in 1981.

It wasn't even Alderson picking up the phone then.
