So, if this configuration holds, the team will arrive on opening day without a single new face. Not on the field, not on the roster. Tell me when that has ever happened. "Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm Flushing welcome to our big new offseason acquisition ... Glenn Sherlock!"

I've seen her act and don't like it at all, Harvard and Georgetown and all.

I have to say, that article reads really weird. It's like a pile of facts indifferently ordered that Kernan only hints at trying to weave into a narrative. It's like he got started late, and was ordering his notes, but the deadline was coming and he had to turn in what he had.

How do you like them completing the Gorzellany deal first? Sandy Alderson: "Well, we've been trying all winter long, but haven't been able to come to terms with any lefties on a major league deal, so while we're offering you a minor league deal and an invitation to camp, the way we see it, if you work hard and show us something, you have a real chance to crack that roster and break camp with the team and be a real part of a playoff-bound roster from the get-go. Tom Gorzelanny: "You know, hell, gimme that contract. I'm signing." SA: "That's great. Here you go, right here." TG: "... L-A-N-N-Y. Sorry. I always run out of space and have to use the margin." SA: "That's fine. Now I want to introduce you to your new teammate, Jerry Blevins. I think you can learn a lot from him." TG: "@#$%!!!"

Well, say what you will, but Sandy sure likes to wait out the market and let it come to him. These two deals seemingly complete the offseason of recommitting to the team he assembled the previous season, re-signing five of the team's free agents and picking up an option on a sixth. And it's still theoretical that the team could sign Kelly Johnson (or Jonathon Niese!). But unless some salary-cutting or outfielder-removing (or both) maneuver is still forthcoming, they sure seem to have rounded out the roster. The main thing next is who gets lopped off the 40 if and when our two returning bullpenners pass their physicals. I don't know, but my smart money points to Rafael Montero. Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump 3h Phony Rafael Montero has virtually no chance to make Mets but is on roster and out of options. Fake pitcher! Sad! Continuing the 2016-2017 offseason as a commitment to keeping the band together, the Mets have resigned Fernando Salas to a one-year deal for $3 million, plus incenteives, according to Kenny Rosenthal on the Twitter. Welcome back, Fernando.

I took out the stats, which just crowd out the board, but this guy went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA for two International League teams last year, striking out 24 and walking 16 in 24 2/3 innings. In brief MLB time with Cleveland, he went 1-0 with a 21.000 (!!) ERA over three innings, whiffing 4 and walking 5. Somebody needs to get it under control. Phillies Notes: Wolf Searching for the One That Got Away May 22 John R. Finger ComcastSportsNet.com NEW YORK — You know that commercial where two young, hip-looking 20-somethings angrily bump into each other on a subway platform and then realize, as they catch a glimpse of each other that true love may have just walked onto the No. 7 train? The ad ends with the sultry young woman writing her phone number on the fogged up window of the train... it's a gum commercial or something. If your name is Liz and you had a great converation with a red-headed stranger Thursday morning on the New York City subway at the Grand Central terminal, then Randy Wolf is looking for you. (AP) Anyway, something like that kind of happened to Randy Wolf at Grand Central Station before Thursday afternoon's game at Shea Stadium, but with one big catch — the lefty didn't get the number and now he needs some help. Here's what happened: On his way to Shea Stadium, Wolf met a woman he knows only as Liz at the Grand Central Station terminal as he was heading to the subway. It seems as if Liz was lost and confused about how to get to Times Square, so Wolf — despite being a Californian, but being a friendly guy — gave her a hand. Along the way, Liz and Randy struck up a conversation before each hopped on trains heading in opposite directions. If only he had acted sooner. Ah, but there is still a chance for Cupid's arrow to deliver its intent. So smitten was Wolf that he could describe Liz's outfit from head to toe — brown suede bell bottoms and a black coat, with brown hair and brown eyes — and he wants to get the word out that he wants to meet her again. In fact, he was even considering taking out an ad in one of the New York papers. So, if young Liz is out there and is interested in meeting up with that helpful 6-foot, 180-pound gentleman she met on the train on Thursday who enjoys movies, music, the beach and recently signed a four-year, $22 million contract, she should contact Randy through the Phillies public relations department at pubrel@phillies.com. He appears to have finally given up, as he married a blonde named Lindsey a year ago. "Just a lot of embarrassment and ridicule," Wolf, now with the Dodgers, said when asked if anything ever came of the search for the mysterious subway rider. "(My current girlfriend) loves hearing about that, too." That's from a 2007 story.

You see, this is why Hamlet wanted to stab himself.

Is that the game that featured Rey Ordóñez going deep off of Randy Wolf?

I had a similar experience with some seats I won by answering a quiz given by the Amazin' Bill Mazer, that wasn't as stumpy as he thought. Donna, Fabio, and I arrived and found out we were in for a treat. It was the debut of Shawn Hare. We had not only not heard of the transaction, but had never heard of him as a minor leaguer, nor even as the American Leaguer he had been 2–3 years earlier. Shawn went 1-4 with a walk and we spent the whole game coming up with horrific back page puns to serve has headlines for future Hare-oics that were NEVER going to come—because these were the 1994 Mets, and the end was nigh.

Top three memories, all of which have appeared in this space before: 1) Double-header long teenage makeout session in the mez. I'm sure we grossed our seatmates out and would have disgraced our families on ESPN if it happened in a later time. But it was then and it was sweet. 2) Police/Joan Jett/REM. During "So Lonely," the upper deck shook so much with the jumping up and down that a pipe hanging on the underside snapped, drenching folks in the field level seats. Fortunately it wasn't scalding hot water or sewage. If there's anything teenagers love as much as feeling the power of burgeoning independence and sexuality, it's feeling the power to destroy things in large groups. 3) Winning Banner Day. I mean, I was a Mets fan. Winning Banner Day was winning the lottery, winning a Nobel Prize, and getting into Harvard all in one. I didn't really win, but carried the banner of a friend's family, as they had two seemingly better banners to carry and I got the castoff. But the judges didn't see it that way. That brief period of time, when the number of the winner was announced and tens of thousands of people were looking around to see who won, but I and only I knew the number was mine ... I felt like I held the world in my hands at that moment. Yes, this was also when I was a teenager. As precious as these memories are, in retrospect, it'd be nice to have had one of those improbable ninth inning comebacks in my collection, like a bunch of you guys. But c'est la vie.

Boone Logan is apparently Cleveland-bound. Breslow reporting that the Mets have been flirting with him, but that may just be about making Blevvy jealous.

A cool "Hendu Can Do" fact: Steve and Pam Henderson got engaged hours before that game, and remain married today. (Wifey Watch crossover!) I also like that all these years later, he refers to Tom Seaver as "Mr. Seaver."

Do you have the shot of you as Bobby Brady at the game with your crew? My first 5-10 Mets games were all wins. I was beginning to think I had the magic. I've never been able to find what I remember to be my first game. In my mind, it was a 1-0 or 2-0 win, perhaps with Zachry going the distance, perhaps with the scoreless tie broken in the seventh, perhaps by Stearns and somebody else hitting back-to-back doubles. If that's true, then my first game certainly occurred after the Seaver trade. It's a shame to think I was 10 and the Mets stinky before I got out to Big Shea, but I think that's true. My dad used to get big blocks of tickets to take a busload of kids from his local PBA club—and me and my brother—out to Shea or Yankee Stadium, alternately, to see games from the cheapies. I don't know how he and another cop kept 40 Brooklyn kids from getting lost or out of line over three hours, but there wasn't much time for father-son bonding, and if I thought my dad could be a red-ass in general, he was doubly scary when supervising the Dead End Street Kids.

It was really dis-spiriting last season when he declared he was sticking with his swing because, if I recall, he said it was easier to make 1,000 minor adjustments to one thing than make a major adjustment 1,000 times. The logic seemed as ill-advised as the swing it defended, and I just got the idea that the remaining portion of the season (7 weeks?) would see no change. And there was no change. I hated to be so pessimistic, because obviously, there are some hitters (some good hitters) who get away with the wrap. But for some reason, it all seemed such a doomed path for d'Arnaud. Fangraphs looks at this swing closely (really closely) here.

Nathan is also disturbingly undereducated.

Mets poet Frank Messina wrote a brilliant verse story of finding a ticket stub that's at least a decade old while sifting through a drawer. It draws him back to memories of the friend, Tommy, he had gone to that game with. So he calls Tommy and invites him to join him at that night's game. His friend is all, "Sure!" until he lets Frank know that there must be some kind of mistake, that the Yanks are in Boston. And Frank suddenly realizes that somewhere between marriages, Tommy has not only switched allegiances, but now denies that his Mets fandom ever existed, a fandom that stretches back to early childhood and was part of the glue of their long friendship together. Frank ends up yelling and ranting at Tommy, reciting every piece of Mets clothing the guy wore to school events 30 years prior, Mets fantasies they shared, games they had been to, before cursing his faithless friend out and slamming down the phone. The poem ends: [list:lwohuncz]Well, what can you do? Not everyone can be as normal as me[/list:u:lwohuncz]

We do hear about it. There's just nothing much new to note.

Just make sure I get that $1,000 finder's fee if you get the job.

That may be part of the issue. Aroldis Chapman and (I think) José Reyes agreed to their suspensions despite the lack of cooperation from a complainant/victim. Perhaps Familia isn't being as accommodating, which puts them in the position of wondering how much authority they have to rule outright.

I figured it wasn't the canapés.

Ah, I guess so.

Yoenis dad and mom separated when he was one, so this is likely a half brother. So while his brother likely misses out on the genes Yoenis got from his Cuban League catcher dad, he still gets to draw from the gene pool of his Olympian softballer mother.
