That's crazy. There's no rabbit. Hey, Universal, did you pay the rabbit?

It might be a better fit if the scientist was the protagonist. How about Harvey?

September 25, 2014. That was the last time I took the field for the Mets. It was game two of a doubleheader. Bobby Abreu played in that game. Daisuke Matsuzaka relieved me. So did Gonzalez Germen. What do you mean they don't do intentional walks anymore? What?! It's a been a long time. And the Mets have won like 180 games since then without me. I'd like to be a part of this. I really would. We're going to win that Carlos Beltran trade, I swear it. But when? I'm looking forward to this season, but I need some support. What do you think will happen? WAS > NYM > MIA, at least today. Tim Tebow ended up making the last out in St. Loo, going 0-4 with 3 strikeouts.

It's official. The Dominican Summer League, the Gulf Coast League, and the Arizona Fall League will all use the gift runner on second base in extra innings. At least, so sez John Norris of Baseball America.

Tomato Juice Rivera 2-3 with a double, a homer, and 3 RBI, pretty much cementing his spot for the opening day roster.

Replacing José Reyes as leadoff hitter and shortstop, and making his first appearance with the big league team, 18-year-old Andres Giminez, who didn't play above the DSL last year.

Double by @NothingButFlores, and the rally is now up to five runs, with the Mets still batting. Still no runs in St. Loo.

Mets rallying in Jupiter on behalf of Mars. Two-zip. Both Céspedeses have batted this inning for the Mets.

This team needs on-base guys. They need Nimmo.

It's the lollygagging. Lollygaggers get what they deserve. While the Nats have gotten to Lugo in the third and fourth, Wheeler is, um, pitching his way into the big leagues in Jupiter. One hit through four against a Marlins team mostly comprised of first-stringers. Mets haven't scored in either city, and in fact have one hit through seven combined in both games.

Ryan Rayburn. Not much of an option for center, but not the worst option for a temporary solution as the extra outfielder, if there's any trace of his 2015 skillz left.

Sometimes it do. Sometimes it don't. The devil is in the code.

The evidence, such as it is, included Ms. Rivas' 911 phone call, marks on her person*, and (make of this what you will) he gave his middle name as his surname to police. * According to Fort Lee police, Ms. Rivas had “visible injuries” which included a “scratch to the chest and bruise to the right cheek.” OE: oops, too late.

I typed this one up with full lineups for two teams for both games and stuff, and all the code disappeared when I hit the SUBMIT button. Highly ungratifying. SAD! Mets, desperately short on system outfielders and now short on centerfielders at the big league level, are starting Granderson in center for one game and Conforto for the other. Tim Tebow will be in left for the home game. Ty Kelly will be at second and T.J. Rivera at third for your Roger Dean Stadium action. Tebow and Kelly are your only minor league floaters in the starting lineups, but more will assuredly appear. It's Wheeler @ Koehler in Jupiter, and Scherzer @ Lugo in St. Lucie.

So, are we potentially looking at Ruben Tejada as the Yankees' opening day shortstop?

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: ... and I find it odd that with all the Floreses and Riveras and Cecchini's and Reyes's we got he gets $17M to hold them all at bay ... I think Alderson ended up overplaying his hand. When making the qualifying offer to Walker, and picking up Bruce's option, he figured that the worst case scenario is that he ends up stuck with both of them at full freight, pushing younger players to the bench or Vegas, and keeping him from spending some of that $$ elsewhere, and that's not all that bad. It's not all that bad for a worst case scenario, but it's how things worked out. They weren't really supposed to be here. But strained obliques and fractured metatarsals will create openings for the younger Mets, as they almost always do.

Some are surprised I'm here. I guess I'm surprised as well. I'm a veteran second baseman who seemed to be settling into his old guy skills last year. More power, the edge sawed off of the platoon splits, less range but more surehandedness. A year in, I perhaps still kind of look like a foreigner on this team. I guess that's due in part to me missing the stretch run last year, and our three-hour playoff run. You don't think I should have bagged my season and gotten surgery? Well, what do you know? I'm the boss of me. I'm a legacy player and a native Pittsburgher who somehow became too costly for Pittsburgh to keep. So I never seemed long for this team. But it's one year, now an expensive deal for a second year, with whispers of an extension that now seem to have been half a dream. Who knows where it ends. I may even land at another position. Second? Third? Trading block? There's a lot of infielders stacked up behind me, Lord knows. But for now, I'm a switch-hitting middle infielder that hits solidly in the middle of the Mets lineup. That's rarely a bad thing. How good a thing will it be this year? I didn't realize Forbidden Planet had a potentially fake reality. A monster projected unknowingly by the antagonist, sure, but not a whole universe.

The date is late, with little over a week left, encompassing just four spring training games, and one of those will be against Army. Time perhaps to be a bit more realistic with projections. While Ty Kelly appears to be the best candidate for the open spot on the bench, there's the minor problem of him having been removed from the roster at the start of camp. Another option is to add Cecchini and make José Reyes primarily an outfielder, but I don't see Terry approaching anything that radical. Nor will he add one of the two remaining outfielders, Wuilmer Becerra. So if neither Lageres nor Nimmo can answer the bell, either Champ Stuart gets to summoned as purely a defender, or a solution from off of the roster will come. If not Kelly, maybe Taijeron. But we at Roster Projection Central are predicting Kelly. VERY dark horse candidate: Kelly Johnson. I wasn’t even invited to spring training, not officially, anyhow. But as much ink has been spilled about me this spring as any other player in this organization. And some of them are really good. So I might as well get a thread. I’m big, and I’m fast, but I king of move around the field like a football player. Violently, and with my head a little more focused on my immediate environment than works for a big league outfielder, chasing fly balls sort of like I’m looking for opposing tacklers. As a hitter, I’m making contact, not chasing much, but not pulling much either. So far, this has all allowed me to do a pretty passable imitation of a marginal, going nowhere baseball player. Going forward, I’ll either adjust and progress, or the larger sample size will reveal me as the non-starter you might expect a guy who hasn’t played in over a decade to be.. I try to stay positive, so I’m looking forward to it. I’m hoping for the best. Expecting… I dunno. What do you think?
