  1. It's been generations of MLB scheduling their most important games too late for children to enjoy, and then dragging them out beyond the attention span of most sentient adults. I have no idea why they haven't sorted it out yet. I was 10 when Reggie Jackson hit three homers in a World Series Game. It was the Yankees, but I lived and breathed baseball, and wouldn't have missed a World Series game if I could help it. But I don't think I even got to see the first homer. I woke up the next morning and asked my dad what happened, and he said, "History."
  2. Kevin Kernan breaks the open secret that one of the ushers at First Data Field is Sixers semi-great Steve Mix.
  3. AND HE GOES DOWN LOOKING! METS LOSE! BUT THEY SAVE FACE!
  4. STUART RIPS A TWO-STRIKE PITCH TO LEFT! METS WITHIN TWO! TYING RUN ON FIRST! WOODMANSEE IS THE WINNING RUN AT THE PLATE!
  5. Tiberi, who spent last summer playing mediocre third base for Brooklyn, grounds to third, but beats out the double play. Mets are alive! Champ Stuart back at the plate.
  6. Kelly drops a single into left field! It's 7-4! Tying run at the plate in the form of ... Blake Tiberi! OHMYGAWD!
  7. Twelve-pitch at-bat, but warrior Taijeron goes down looking at a slider on the inside part of the plate. Marlins go to the pen. Ty Kelly due up but the fans are chanting for Tebow.
  8. Bounces a doubleplay ball and IT GETS BY BUCKNER! TWO-RUN ERROR! STILL NONE OUT! Taijeron back at the plate ...
  9. And he singles home one! Xorge at the plate!
  10. Rodriguez walks to load the bases for Matt Oberste. (Pronounced OH-burs-tee.)
  11. A Woodmansee double down the line and it's second and third with none out in the ninth. They may score after all. J.C. Rodriguez at the plate.
  12. Kelly and Zabala did their job, walking to set up Champ Stuart, but the House of Stuart fell, as champ reached for a pitch outside and grounded out. Not a glorious day for the Empire.
  13. Two-out eighth-inning triple by Taijeron may be the first real highlight for the Mets. Kelly up trying to plate him.
  14. A whole bunch of Kevin Kaczmarskis out there as the Mets trail 7-0. deGrom started strong and then got hit hard in the sixth. Roseboom gave up an inherited run and two runs of his own, while retiring nobods. Goeddel gave up a run plus a runner bequeathed to him, but Montero had a strong inning, and I suspect Montero is ahead in the race for the fifth righthander out of the pen.
  15. 2. Buzzband Capra.
  16. 9. Bunting Robert Gsellman.
  17. 5. John Franco: 0-for-15-years-as-a-Met.
  18. Welcome aboard. I'm in.
  19. Yeah, but a year on the DL is better money than quittin'.
  20. They switch from pool play to knockout play in the semis. More drama, if a less accurate outcome. There's almost no place in the organization of this thing that they don't make the wrong choice, but they sure got a broadly representative final four: One team from North America, one from Latin America and the Caribbean, one from East Asia, and one from Europe. A warm "Welcome back to camp!" to Hansel Robles, Jeurys Familia, and José Reyes.
  21. A two-run McCutcheon double puts the US up 6-3 and I'm hitting the sack.
  22. And then Canó hits one that Yellich had a better chance at but COULDN'T snag, getting caught flatfooted. TYLER CLIPPARD IS A RUSSIAN PLANT!!
  23. Manny Machado just launched one into the centerfield stands that Adam Jones outstandingly pulled out before it landed. IT'S ALL ORIOLES ALL THE TIME!
  24. US hanging onto a 4-2 lead through six. Danny Duffy started and gave up two runs, one earned, in four innings, but our relief corps looks deeper than the rotation, and lets hope they can get us home. Yeah, the Dominican is even better in the pen, but the US has the lead now. Ol' buddy Tyler Clippard just threw a scoreless sixth. Daniel Murphy still riding pine for the Minutemen, but José Reyes is doing his part by going 0-4 out of the leadoff spot for the El Matatan.
  25. He homered today. Off of a borderline prospect named Arturo Reyes, but still.
