  1. Yeah, I guess I'm just a little surprised it wasn't tonight. Boo has feelings. And he can pick up on patterns as well as anybody.
  2. So, it looks like a straight Dudaflores platoon is starting to look like a thing.
  3. This thread is three hours old, the game hasn't started yet, but Kong is killing it. Expect some Schaefer after the game, Kong.
  4. It's pretty anti-climactic that he stopped at second and didn't even know it was a homer, but the music gives it more drama. [tweet:e6dmvpc0]https://twitter.com/TitanicBaseball/status/850144688950607872[/tweet:e6dmvpc0]
  5. So what was that SW sign that Kemp hit with his second blast? Does he win a sweater? Some Southwest Airlines tickets?
  6. Or there isn't really a role at all. It's sorta Lagares' roster spot.
  7. Jannis oughta be happy. Getting invited back after walking 76 and striking out only 82 in 140.2 innings, when you're already something like the oldest guy on the team—I'd be thrilled.
  8. The Ponies opened their season and debuted their new brand yesterday by ... raining out. Their nominal opening day starter was to be Belfast-born comer P.J. Conlon, owner of the top ERA in affiliated ball in 2016. Like the 51s above them, they are responding to the dearth of outfield talent in the system (and outfield health, as Kevin Kaczmarski joins Juan Lagares and Brandon Nimmo on the DL; and outfield willingness, Kyle Johnson has apparently walked away from the game) by carrying only three outfielders. Instead they've arranged a roster with a jaw-dropping nine relievers, including Scarlyn Reyes, who was stalling at Columbia as a starter and so tries to reinvent himself, and Cory Burns, who last pitched in the bigs in 2013 and spent last season in indy ball. A lot of vets stalling out at this level. Tyler Pill will be beginning his fifth season in the Valley of Opportunity. L.J. Mazzilli needs to shake off the upstate dust also. Conlon and FSL batting champ Tomás Nido at catcher are the Ponies to watch this year. 9. I hadn't realized Bill Madden was on the planet.
  10. That's leapfrogging Columbia. While we at Roster Central anticipated that, it's still a pretty notable feat.
  11. Marlins don't really sport any former Mets, unless you count the likes of special assistant to the president Jeff Conine, who also does pre- and post-game reports. They're stashing Matt den Dekker in New Orleans, so we may see him sometime this year, if not this series. Former WNBC-NY sports anchor Craig Minervini is a long-time Marlins in-game reporter.
  12. I hadn't realized that Barry Bonds' replacement as Marlins' hitting coach is Mike Pagliarulo, who used to play across the diamond from him with the Yankees. I imagine Mattingly is as much the hitting coach as anybody, but Pags is the first guy Mattingly has had in that spot who isn't a roid-tainted former superstar deigning to sign on as a coach in order to help rebuild his public image.
  13. The Columbia Fireflies open their season a lot more sluggingly than the Mets, pounding out a 14-7 win over the Augusta Greenjackets. The onslaught begain in the second as new leftfielder Tim Tebow made his regular season debut as professional baseballer by hitting a two-run homer in his first at-bat. He went 0-4 with three strikeouts after that, but the journey began the right way.
  14. I was wondering why Mets minor leaguer Kyle Johnson was absent from the Las Vegas roster. I searched for him in Bingo, and he wasn't there either. Wondering what became of him, I found this sobering article about minor leaguers chasing the dream, disguised as a profile of Kyle. Johnson, this offseason, heroically became the first minor leaguer to publicly acknowledge his participation in a class-action suit aimed at unfair wages and unjust labor practices.
  15. Matt Harvey pulls into a tie with teammate Jacob deGrom as the active team leader in Mets wins. You just passed a Hall-of-Famer, man. Two more wins and you tie another one. T28) Frank Viola: 38 T28) Jack Fisher: 38 T28) Ed Lynch: 38 31) Rick Aguilera: 37 32) Jim McAndrew: 36 33) Roger McDowell: 33 34) Pedro Martinez: 32 T35) Ray Sadecki: 30 T35) Jacob deGrom: 30 T35) Matt Harvey: 30 T38) Oliver Perez: 29 T38) Nolan Ryan: 29 T38) Bret Saberhagen: 29
  16. Talking golf in a baseball booth is for Phil Rizzuto, guys. Think we're going to see the debut episode of Addison Reed, Mets Closer with a four-run lead?
  17. Whoah! Went all dead red there.
  18. I think GKR are high tonight.
  19. Ashie62 wrote: Very satisfying game. WTG Matt. Getting Brandon Phillips out is a nice change. Maybe instead of Kelly Johnson, the Braves trade Brandon Phillips to the Mets this summer. He's clearly a placeholder there. (Not that the Mets need another infielder.)
  20. Cabrera almost seemed to be aiming that ball to left, like Tony Gwynn or Ichiro Suzuki.
  21. Or not tune out again, which is the plan. Interesting that Wright is hanging out with the starting pitchers again.
  22. I've tuned into this game twice. Both time, immediately after I tuned in, Matt Kemp destroyed a baseball.
  23. Harvey is like an anti-Seaver, in that he pushes off high and lands high.
  24. Two cool new artifacts in the museum: Yogi's jacket from the 1973 postseason, with the rarely seen 75th anniversary patch celebrating the 1898 smashing together of the boroughs; the pillbox cap Tom Seaver wore in 1976. But the joy from seeing them was diminished by a) a lineup card from a game vs the Nats at Citi Field in July 2016 that, according to the accompanying text, was the lineup card from the game when the Mets hit 8 HRs at Citizens Bank Park in August 2015; and a Mets 41 jersey allegedly worn by Tom when he pitched during one of his twelve seasons as a Met. Except it has a drop shadow and, at best, was worn by Seaver when he threw out a first pitch. It's the kind of thing that if you saw at a Champions in a Marriott, you'd say, fine, whatever. But it's the frigging Mets museum. This is deeply disconcerting and needs to be answered with agitation.
