Rivera is the only other righty on our stupid short bench, so it's Grandy.

While it's raining, just keep hitting it to Davis.

There we go! 'Bout time they broke through against this flinger.

We sure have a lot of extry-base hits for a team being shut out.

There's some sort of dirty boy's joke going on in the booth. Keith's mic has gone dead and you can hear muted laughter through Gary's.

Cruising toward a clean inning and BOOM! Matt Chapman. It's a hard time to be a marginal pitcher.

He's pitching on his heels. Terrified of the strike zone.

Wheeler needs adjustment.

Whoah, the curveball gets cracked into the black.

We've got a new entry!

We've got a new third baseman! Sorry. Kept his name out, but sure, I'll delete.

I tell youse, trades of almost anybody in their lineup won't make them appreciably worse, because of the depth they've built up. Certainly the walk-year guys. But if they trade Blevens and/or Reed and don't get any big-league-ready pitching coming back in a deal, a dark horse or two better step up, because the last two months could get long fast. I'm hoping that starters returning from the DL can lengthen the bullpen, but who knows when that could happen?

I'm not particularly concerned about that sort of thing. It was dumb, but he was clearly talking about some distant abstract future. I guess it makes the list of shitpiles the Mets have stepped in this year, but pretty low.

My mother always said, when one Neil closes, another Neil opens. I'm guessing Walker will return to second and Cabrera moves mostly to third? Merandy is totally this year's P.J. Conlon. After seven scoreless his last time out, he's doing the unthinkable, actually improving on his 8-1/1.55 performanc in his first half with Columbia, going 4-1/1.52 so far with St. Lucie. Only four homers in 99 innings. Yeah, it's A-Ball, but that combines with low walk rates and opponent batting averages too, and it tracks across his career. His 1.54 combined ERA is second in all full-season affiliated baseball, behind only Phillies prospect Ranger Suarez, currently rocking an NCAA Softball-esque 1.42 ERA also between the South Atlantic League and the Florida State League.

The A's have one pitcher, in the person of Sean Manaea, on the mound. The Mets counter with Zack Wheeler and thousands upon thousands of Noah Syndergaard-as-Thor bobbleheads. Advantage! And it's advantage they had better exploit, because going to their pen after five today means it's all hands on deck tomorrow. If that means bobblehands, so be it.

What a performance!

Some credit to Collins for pulling Reed after he burned his bridges with the home plate ump, and now Blevvy gets the borderline call.

Oh, smokes, there's practically four guys on the right of second. Bunt like a bandit!

I got his real name. Anybody know what state he lives in?

This Blevins guy might be good. I'm looking forward to his future.

If they escape this, it may come down to a lost sheep like Robles or Smoker in the ninth.

Wowz.
