Scratched from tonight's lineup with the Veggs.

I get the idea that they're all going deer hunting after the game. Ashie62 wrote: Wilmer Flores, Matt Reynolds, Jacob deGrom. What is a utility guy, a futility guy, and a capability guy?

Don't know, but Reynolds is leftfielding now. deGrom leads the bigs in pitcher hits with 14. Jhoulys Chacín has 12.

I don't know, but it's sort of why I'm slow to target offseason acquisitions. Lots can change over the remaining weeks.

Merandy putting up a 0.98 ERA over his first 18.1 innings in the Miami system. His 11 strikeouts and five walks won't knock you out, but, well, there's no bad way to a 0.98 ERA.

That'll leave the team with 14 pitchers 11 batters on the roster, only three of whom are outfielders. Is there a number where I can report roster abuse? I only thought he might prefer to leave rather than be left dangling after it's leaking all over the place that he's done. That happened with Howe, and he was going to leave and the Mets had to talk him into serving out the last week or two.

Well, the Mets likely know if their GM is returning. If he's not, I don't see how an interim manager is affected by a GM change. His contract and tenure end with the season.

Do I trust the Mets to not hire the interim after giving too much credence to a September record? As much as I trust Mets to not make any other mistake in their hiring process if they wait until November, I guess.

On this day in 1919, the Indians led the Athletics, 2-1, when, with two outs in the ninth, Indians pitcher Ray Caldwell was struck by lightning. Caldwell collapsed in a heap on the mound, knocked unconscious. As his teammates gathered around him, attending to him and fearing the worst, Caldwell revived, got up, and retired Philadelphia shortstop Joe Dugan on a grounder to end the ballgame.

Yeah, I'm talking about an interim appointment. And yeah again, I'm certainly not advocating that a strong performance by the team should lead to the organization rewarding the interim manager or staff with the job, a la Jerry Manuel.

Well, there's something to be said for lifting the pall and beginning the transition today. He's obviously a great company man. There's something to be said for that sort resigning and turning over the reigns to somebody who could use a profile boost and a little experience. Obviously, Art Howe and Jerry Manuel lingered on in the last weeks of their tenures when everybody knew they were doomed, maintaining what dignity the could, and thems weren't happy endings. Omar Minaya too.

Yeah, but that was Obama's fault.

Yeah, I'm kind of in favor going interim at this point, and letting Dick Scott or Dave Racianello or somebody drive the car around for a month.

I like that, in the age of ballplayers modeled on superheroes, the two ectomorphs—Blevins and deGrom—are the only guys to remain with the team the whole season.

Jon Heyman reporting that all indications are that Terry is a goner at the end of the season. He's 980-996 on his career. Getting back to .500 doesn't seem reachable, but perhaps getting to 1,000 wins is.

Taijeron, Snider, and Cruzado all in the lineup for Vegas tonight.

That's also the draft memorialized in this book, a favorite of Lunchie's, if'n' I recall correct:

The great Yankees tradition of using bench players as meathead enforcers. Was Shelly Duncan unavailable?

Brandon Drury and the Blockheads.

Reynolds, maybe not so much.

Twitter users are saying shoulder dislocation, and you know, that's never good. We may see Tebow after all.
