I am fifth all-time in fielding percentage as a centerfielder, and fourth all-time in fielding percentage as an outfielder. I hold (or held for a time, anyhow — researchers are double-checking) the American League records for consecutive errorless chances (541) and errorless games (229). My record as a Met is flawless, having played 122 games in the outfield without committing an error. Who am I?

Prince Fielder conducting a life-after-baseball interview ... in a Mets jersey! [fimg=500]https://sportsdaydfw.imgix.net/1499984324-Prince-Fielder-Feature_57478174_611759.JPG?q=50&auto=format&w=900[/fimg]

I think the doesn't-want-a-big-market notion is baseball pundits doing some after-the-fact rationalizing to fill in gaps about what they know. The favors-the-west-coast certainly seems to be backed up, though. You have five of the six PT teams in the final seven, excluding only the perpetually broke Athletics.

So, seriously, would you rather spend $2.5 million on Matt Adams than $6.5 million on Adam Lind? I'm guessing at those numbers, but it's worth considering if that difference can go to work for you somewhere else. Adams did so well for a while last year that the Braves were forced to move Freddie Freeman over to third. They reportedly were working hard to trade Adams before non-tendering him. But I bet nobody wants to deal with the Braves right now.

Joel is also reporting the dream is over in Metland. [tweet:1yp9h0lc] [/tweet:1yp9h0lc] The big doofus probably wanted a tent.

The Giants may nab Stanton and Ohtani right on top of one another.

Trying to trace the source of that scoop. Looks like Bryan Hoch but I'm not sure. Mainly it's unclear if the Mariners and Giants are the finalists, or merely among the finalists.

Edgie represented the most Met-experienced of the organizations minor league free agents, but a lot of them have seen beaucoup big league time. Donovan Hand, Tom Gorzelanny ... . But despite the injury nightmare none of those mugs tasted big-league sunflower seeds in 2018. It was simply a terrible season for minor league free agents in the Mets organization. Most years somebody would break from the pack and re-vitalize his career, and in a season like this past one, it should be even more likely, but the Mets upper minors was little more than a trail of broken comeback attempts. Continuing their brand new role of playing the heel, the Marlins fire longtime scout Marty Scott while he's in the hospital recovering from colon cancer surgery.

Well, his father has enough managing and coaching experience, so maybe the Yanks are hoping it's in his blood. Plus, he's a descendent of Daniel Boone, so killing bears is also in his blood. By the way, Bret's son got drafted this past summer, so that's now four generations of Boonies.

Well, then, let's not offer him a four-year contract.

Another name trending in the universal Mets search for secondbasemen is Cesar Hernandez. Youngish five-year vet in Phillie. Trending upwards in both OBP and power — all offensive categories, really. Defense too. Fakes it at short, third, and the outfield. Steals a little, but not at a high rate. Venezuelan, switchie, consistent at the plate, and shed the low-baseball-IQ tag in 2017 that had previously dogged his career. It may not be a trait to bank on, but he hit really well in intra-divisional play, including .318/.408/.455 // .862 in 66 AB vs. the Mets. The Phillies' top prospect, J.P. Crawford is a shortstop just on the verge (he's already debuted), so they might want to clear a spot in the middle infield either to install Crawford at second or put him at short and slide Galvis back to the keystone. Cesar Hernandez. It's like he's been right in front of you the whole time. PROFESSIONAL-POMPOUS-PUERILE-PROVOCATIVE I'd almost come around on Matt Harvey if I could get him to replicate that layout.

That's great, thanks. Perhaps the menu should be titled "YEARS," since it covers the whole year, beyond the baseball schedule, and it includes years without any Mets season at all. Also, perhaps pre-1962 years could appear on that menu that include dates beyond the birthdays of Mets uniform personnel, like finding Joan Payson's birth in 1903, or finding the birth of Polo Grounds III in 1891.

Harvey is totally listed as an asset in an Eastern European intelligence dossier somewhere.

In a Baltimore Sun article about Americans arrested and threatened with deportation despite having full U.S. citizenship, one of these tragically unjustly detained folks turns out not only to be a U.S. citizen, but is apparently the best sort of U.S. citizen: a Kazuo Matsui fan. That crazy New York Post is citing an organization source and reporting that embattled New York phormer phenom starting pitchers Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler will be tendered 2018 contracts. Fellow arbitration-eligible teammates AJ Ramos, Jeurys Familia, Wilmer Flores, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Hansel Robles will also be offered contracts. No further word on a deGrom extension, but it's apparently not off the table.

It's a good coincidence? Who was the Japanese player the Mets had (or sought) that had a wife whose whole gig seemed to be taking pictures with food? Or was it a Korean? Dae-sung Koo?

I'd totally DH him. I'd probably use him as the #1 pinch hitter, too if he really was the best option. It's probably more true that the grind of pitching makes him a bad option to play the field the next day or two, more than the notion that the hitting interrupts his pitching. But when we're just talking about swinging the bat, there isn't as much downside if he's good. If he's with an AL team, bench him the day after his starts and DH him the next three days. There's also talk of limiting his starts to one per week (the Japanese standard), and so having more days to let the guy hit. But how you deploy him or don't deploy him all depends on how you assess him as either a hitter or a pitcher. Most reports suggests he's further along as a twirler, but different teams will assess that differently. Obviously pitching is a higher risk enterprise as well. He may be a pitcher/bench player for a few years, but after his arm wears down, he could gear up his hitting reps.

Miguel Cabrera had just about the worst 2017 imaginable. Like he wishes he had José Reyes' season. Experiments are always worthwhile, but I'd not only want the Tigers to throw in some $$, but also some less unstable talent too.

So does Syndergaard. I'm sure there are pitchers who have had their careers damaged by their exposed wing getting hit by a pitch, but I sure can't think of one. Can you? I think there are bad scenarios which are easily imaginable, and so those are the ones we focus on preventing, instead of the ones that are statistically more likely to occur or statistically more likely to do the most damage.
