It's an even more perfect headline for a game in which Matt Harvey is battered by the Brewers following a suspension for missing work due to a drinking binge. It works at three or four levels, even though it's 2017 and I don't know if anybody actually drinks harvey wallbangers anymore.
  2. The first six? All Mets.
  3. I got nothing against Sherman. I just think the range of outcomes listed is pretty much where I had previously understood it to be, sort of "The Mets will consider signing both lefthanded and righthanded players" type of news.
  4. It looks like the Braves will be forced to give up at least a few of their international free agents. I'd love to celebrate the Braves bad fortune, but it seems silly to me, with MLB turning into the NCAA and worse — building labyrinthine and tortuous rules to keep organizations from having the audacity to spend their money on talented players, forcing the teams to hire extra personnel to find sophisticated paths around those rules, and publicly humiliating them if and when they get caught trying to do just that. Just let teams sign players. It's bloody easy.
  5. How do you even get "should be swinging a bat by late January" and "potentially even miss Opening Day" into the same paragraph? That's totally not news!
  6. This is great work by you. HARVEY WALLBANGERS and TOO MANY BREWS are easy, but sort of pitch-perfect headlines. The shot of Cabrera in pain is a really good photo, but it's almost an assault on his dignity to run it.
  7. On second thought, there's probably a cap on the amount of bonus pool money/space a team can trade because that's the sort of nonsense there tends to be.
  8. So the only angle the Mets have is potentially trading a player (or $$) to another team in exchange for some of their stupid unused pool space.
  9. Apart from objecting to it in the extreme, I can't for the life of me figure out the international bonus pool thingie. Shouldn't that only apply to bonuses, rather than salary?
  10. I forget who they were, but I believe Doerr leaves behind only two other MLB players who debuted before the US entered World War II.
  11. Jeter: Hey, do you guys want Dee Gordon? He can be had for the right offer. Alderson: I'm sorry. I stopped listening after Gordon. Jeter: He's still good! He can steal 50 bases, and he plays great defense! Alderson: What do you know about defense?
  12. I went for GOD OF BLUNDER, THORRIBLE! and UGLY AS SYN, all three capturing the game that broke the 2017 Mets.
  13. Harvey in his PJs would have been much more effective if the title was PJ HARVEY, but all the references are for older folks. How does anybody under, say, 40, have any clue what they are trying to do with M*E*T*S?
  14. PROVE IT ALL KNIGHT would have worked better stylized as PROVE IT ALL, KNIGHT, but it got my vote.
  15. Can we put aside negotiations with Cain, Hosmer, and Moustakas, and just try and get a 2015 Royals group rate?
  16. I don't think we should take that $30-40 million as a hard truth, but of course any additional moneys he gets is applied to the same budget.
  17. Hey, somebody really liked this film, to the tune of 4 1/2 starz. Who was that ranker?
  18. Good observation. Maybe it's the bad wing that's keeping him from tying his necktie. But from the state of the collar, I'm guessing he shed his tie somewhere over the course of the evening.
  19. Tom Slater! Want Met to always love me! Tom Slater! Want Met to ALWAYS love me!
  20. Do we know if Chicklo was sent packing along with Ramirez?
  21. It's amazing how guys traded in mid-season by a team almost never rebound back that team (aka "pulling a Bordick"), but seemingly every one the Mets have traded — Duda, Walker, Bruce, Reed — is on the table for the Mets' consideration. Nobody's mentioned a Granderson reunion yet, or a René Rivera redux. Yet.
  22. Some things are funny right up until they aren't. That's why you need security man to be more on the stick.
  23. Mets 2010 ninth-round pick Jacob deGrom and his 4.4 WAR teases three first-round picks that had 1.5 WAR among them. 24. You'd figure Conforto would be there, but no, here he is. Amazin'! Li'l D is from SoCal (Long Beach) but got married in Tahoe. Nimmo got married in his wifey's hometown of Savannah. It's interesting that he got to keep her after the Mets moved their affiliate to Columbia.
  25. Somebody forgot to tell Addie Reed he's been traded!
