  1. I understand, but I'm not sure what we have is a complete list of his preferred teams.
  2. It happens.
  3. Normally, yes. But this time it's Him with the options, aka: an opt-out clause after three more seasons so he has the choice as to whether or not he's even around when that final year comes around. There's probably still some value in getting that final year guaranteed. There's every chance he won't be in a position to opt out. His contract is really generous.

  5. So, reports are now that Stanton is holding up the deal because he doesn't want to be stupid Giant or a dumbass Cardinal. But would rather be a repulsive Yankee or a horrifying Dodger. At least that's what Ken Rosenthal is reporting behind his big dumb paywall. Stanton has a no-trade clause, and he's submitted a list of teams that he will waive that clause for, and while the Yanks, Dogies, Cubbers, and Stros are on the list, the Gigantes and Cards ain't. If experience tells me anything, using no-trade clauses to block deals is typically the mechanism by which a fat cat with a long term contract gets that option year at the end of his contract guaranteed. Whichever team guarantees that 2028 (!) season on his deal, I would guess, gets added to the list.
  6. Neither shines my shoes, but GLORY JAYS is working way to hard to land a dud of a pun.
  7. I thought just about all of the other options were superior. That is, if they're real options.
  8. Ten Cool Things About Tracy Stallard 1. He and Dave Hillman had their fates linked, both coming out of the same rural circuit of Southwestern Virginia, signing with the Red Sox, and moving on to terrible early Mets teams. 2. Was, in fact, traded from the Sox with Al Moran and Pumpsie Green for Felix Mantilla. Can you imagine three guys bad enough to together add up to a single 1962 Met?! And yet, all three played. 3. Apart from living in infamy as the server of Roger Maris' 60th homerun ball, he was also on the losing end of Jim Bunning's perfect game. 4. Threw his first 13 games out of the pen for the Mets, but then landed like a godsend in the rotation of the terrible 1963 Mets, allowing only one run as he pitched into the seventh inning in his first start, and then throwing complete-game victories in his next two starts. He fell off from there, as you might imagine. 5. During his time in New York, he took a page out of the ol' Ralph Kiner playbook, dating Julie Newmar, in between her stints on Living Doll and Batman 6. Lost a colossal 37 games in only two seasons as a Met. 7. Tracy Stallard Enterprises offer fans and collectors AUTHENTIC Tracy Stallard signed items as well as offering private and public signings featuring legendary athletes. They strive to provide a friendly experience while maintaining first class service. 8. Played six seasons in the minors after his big league career was over. 9. Was something of a giant-kller, holding his own with the likes of Willie Mays (6-for-30, .200), Willie McCovey (5-for-33, .152, but with 3 home runs), Roberto Clemente (4-for-29, .138), and Frank Robinson (6-for-28, .214). 10. Although he appeared at a handful of Roger Maris golf tournaments, and was accessible through the website above, tended to keep a low profile in later life, seemingly alternating between embracing and eschewing is weird place in history. He didn't even show up for the dedication of the ball field at his high school, named in his honor.
  9. We missed that there was a third wedding the same weekend as the d'Arnies and the Nimmies. Mickey Jannis and Emily Callison interrupted the all-important AFL season to do some knot-tying. [tweet] [/tweet] Also, d'Arnaud and n'Immo both honeymooned in Maui and ran into each other.
  10. For years, when you reached a certain posting level, your designation was "Trady Stallard." It was a typo that I became attached to and really took my time fixing.
  11. HERE WE YO was a lie. HARVEY WALLBANGERS was the God's honest truth. I mean, yeah, a few guys returned from the DL, but we certainly didn't YO anywhere. Down with fake news! Up with HARVEY WALLBANGERS!
  12. Well, sure, but unlike the 'Bow, Sethie is first-round material that we can't just sign for shits and giggles.
  13. No, no, NO! The subtitle should read,"METS ROOKIE SHJELLED IN DEBUT." Don't make me do everything.
  14. Both are well composed, but the right to left orientation of the TRESPEDES cover is superior, along with them putting the medallion top right, and only putting a marketing hijack banner at the bottom (where such things belong) instead of both at the bottom and the top in the TAB CALLAWAY cover, where they squeeze the meat out of the sandwich. TAB CALLAWAY is indeed disadvantaged by having available photography of him only in a Cleveland uniform, in a shot that barely conveys action. On the other hand, it's a real nice Cleveland uniform with no sign of Chief Wahoo.
  15. But it'd be real impressive Seth Beer got replaced on the name list.
  16. This wet fart of a season yielded little in terms of benefits. Lots of guys got hurt, some of whom undoubtedly resetting their career trajectory, everybody got a year older, and the team became less marketable, undercutting the payroll. But hey, the draft! The Mets pick sixth, and if Jonathan Mayo's first projection of the top 50 draft-eligible prospects, the shortstop-gorged organization is in line to grab another shortstop, based on Mayo's top ten. 1) Brady Singer, rhp, Junior, University of Florida 2) Ethan Hankins, rhp, Senior, Forsyth Central (GA) HS 3) Matthew Liberatore, LHP, Senior, Mountain Ridge (AZ) HS 4) Nolan Gorman, 3b, O'Connor (AZ) HS (No established relation to Tom) 5) Shane McClanahan, lhp, Redshirt Sophomore, University of South Florida (No established relation to Rue) 6) Nander De Sedas, ss, Senior, Montverde (FL) Academy 7) Brice Turang, ss, Senior, Santiago (CA) HS 8) Casey Mize, rhp, Junior, Auburn (No established relation to Johnny) 9) Ryan Rolison, lhp, Sophomore, University of Mississippi 10) Jackson Kowar, rhp, Junior, University of Florida Two familiar names are actually related to famous folks. Mets, in fact. 15th-ranked Ryan Weathers is the son of ex-Met David, and 19th-ranked Griffin Conine is the son of ex-Met Jeff. Jeff went in the 58th round, which doesn't even exist anymore, so the son is highly likely to exceed his father's humble beginnings. And look at his sweet aluminum swing! Top 10 Names 10) Greyson Jenista, of 9) Dominic Pipkin, rhp 8) Slade Cecconi, rhp 7) Jordan Groshans, 3b 6) Konner Pilkington, lhp 5) Sean Hjelle, rhp: Oh, HJELLE no! 4) Noah Naylor, c: Kind of makes all those Doug Fister jokes obsolete. 3) Brice Turang, ss: Is he a baseball player or an ancient civilization? 2) Kumar Rocker, rhp: Not every song can be a Kumar rocker. Harold will tell you. 1) Seth Beer, 1b: He earns his top spot by living up to his name, offsetting his awesome walk and slugging rates with a 20 (!) run tool, and predictions from scouts that he'll be a full-time DH by his 25th birthday.
  17. I can't find the double, but here's Payton driving him home. [youtube:380z8si0]44iNB59AdtI[/youtube:380z8si0] Here's a good 11th fact: Darryl Hamilton recorded the first ever base hit in inter-league play.
  18. Ten Facts About Darryl Hamilton 1. As noted elsewhere, he was a terrifically efficient fielder, clocking in at fifth all-time in fielding percentage as a centerfielder, and fourth all-time in fielding percentage as an outfielder. One account says he holds the American League records for consecutive errorless chances (541) and errorless games (229). And his record as a Met is flawless, having played 122 games in the outfield without committing an error. 2. Stole 41 bases back in 1992 for Milwaukee. 3. Came to the Mets at the end of a series of weird-but-totally-Steve-Phiililip-y centerfielder challenge trades in which they traded Lance Johnson for Brian McRae, and then later Brian McRae for Hamilton. 4. Hated by MoFo street poet Joelmon for a long DL stint with an injured foot, which earned him, apart from Joelmon's ire, the MoFo nickname "Hamiltoe." 5. Was married for a time to Access Hollywood hostess Shaun Robinson and model Usaline Steinke who, a quick Google search suggests, kinda look like each other. 6. During the September swoon of 1999, the Mets at one point lost seven in a row. The dam finally burst on September 29, when they set a club record with nine hits in one inning — off of Greg Maddux of all people — en route to a 9-2 win at Shea. The ninth hit? That was by Darryl Hamilton. 7. His grand slam off Darryl Kile provided the margin of victory in a 6-2 win over the Rockies, his recent employers, in early September before the swoon kicked in. He now joins Kile in the afterlife. Nm5ajtgtMSs 8. It's easy to forget, but while the 2000 NLDS seems to have gone like a breeze as the Mets won 3-1, wrapping it up with Bobby Jones' one-hitter, it didn't start off that way. The Giants won Game One handily, 5-1, and came back in game two with three in the ninth to tie the score at 4. With two outs in the 10th, Darryl came on to pinch-hit for Joe McEwing, and doubled to centerfield off of Felix Rodriguez, then came around to score the winning run on a Jay Payton single, and the Mets never looked back. [fimg=500]https://usatthebiglead.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/darrylhamilton.jpg?w=1000&h=683[/fimg] 9. As also noted elsewhere, Darryl was killed by his domestic partner in a murder-suicide. He is the most recent of about 55 known MLB murder victims, but surprisingly, the seventh of the 21st century. 10. Dusty Baker, whose Giants were victimized by Hamilton's 2000 Mets, spoke at Hamilton's funeral, describing it as one of the hardest things he ever had to do, and he reportedly has continued to carry Hamilton's obituary with him in his briefcase as he's headed to the ballpark every day since.
  19. Weird things I stumble upon on FB: Help EX WFAN STAR CRAIG CARTON
  20. Al Pedrique, fresh off two International League championships, including one AAA World Series title, was unable to parlay that success into the Yankees managerial job. Seeing the Bomber organization for the dead end it is (he didn't even get an interview!), he's off to greener pastures, taking the first base coach's job in Oakland.
  21. Anthony DiComo reports that the Mets are unlikely to add a starting pitcher on a major league contract. That's some good news, if you're name's Montero.
  22. The late Darryl Hamilton is our answer. Got into 150 games over parts of three seasons as a Met, 122 as an outfielder, and presumably the rest as a pinch-hitter or pinch-runner. He and Bubba Trammell were the two reserve outfielders that were shocked to find themselves leapfrogged by a virtually unknown Timo Perez, coming on to pick up most of the playing time made available by the injury to Derek Bell right as the post-season was getting under way.
  23. This guy was on the downside of his career by the time he first pulled on a Met uniform, but he had some range in his heyday.
  24. You gents are so close! And hey! Look at the forum!
  25. Good guess! Wrong guess!
