  1. I lost the Sirius MLB channels halfway through the summer last year. Apparently I have to get a new Sirius device to get them back. Devils.
  2. In his last game last season, he was actually getting outs while being unable to get by on power, doing the old changing-speeds-alternating-sides-of-the-plate thing. I was actually impressed before he walked off in pain. Here's hoping he stops trying to rediscover his bazooka for a bit, pitches with his guile, and if the power returns, it'll be a blessing.
  3. I like Thompson. He puts up RBI numbers that outstrip his rate stats. I don't necessarily conclude anything there, but it bears watching.
  4. That's a great report. And I'm really impressed with how big d'Kong's arms look in that last photo. Good for him! Were you able to get any background from Stoins about swapping numbers with Mazzilli?
  5. Concerning: Long has the the team valued on-base percentage more in word than in action. Nothing this spring — including their seeming gun-shyness about letting Nimmo be their primary centerfielder or their primary leader-offer — has told me they're maturing in this regard. They have a lot of offensive talent, but they still make too many outs and get too few baserunners, and are too reliant on multiple homers to win. Encouraging: Nimmo is making a great case to overcome their reluctance.
  6. God, yes. And he's probably thinking of the Billy Bob Thornton one.
  7. It's become such a latter-day universal to designate minor league teams with names that sound totally minor league and at least somewhat emasculating (New Orleans Baby Cakes, El Paso Chihuahuas, Savannah Bananas, Akron Rubber Ducks ...), that I've got to believe the market research is firmly in place to suggest that this sort of maneuver does sell more jerseys — and a big revenue producer in the minors is partnering with Little Leagues to get their kids to wear their swag. I dunno. America apparently can't have enough irony. Why else would we elect Donald Trump as president?
  8. For what it's worth, I looked those up, and all three were of the seven-inning variety. Also, at the end of the season, he pitched out of the bullpen the last three weeks or so. I'm not sure if they were interested in auditioning him as a reliever, but I suspect he was on an innings limit and was approaching it.
  9. We got two A.J.'s in camp, so we need a P.J. I'm here to oblige. I'm a devilish, soft-tossin', shoulder-hunchin' lefty from Falls Road in Belfast. I had a 2016 to die for but I came back to earth a little with my 2017 in Binghamton. Walks went up a tick, homers went up a tock, and that's the way things break. But I was much stronger in the second half, and I threw three shutouts, which is a dying art form. I don't know whether folks see me starting or relieving in the bigs, but I'm looking at the Las Vegas rotation this summer and maybe a visit to the bigs at some point. What are you thinking? 10. Steve Lyons is a tall price to pay, even for Vin Scully.
  11. For the Love of the Game is significantly bad. It's a bad film. It's a baseball-y film that doesn't know anything about baseball. Worse, it's a baseball-y film that doesn't know anything about baseball that thinks it knows about baseball. It's your cousin's aggressively obnoxious drunk husband at a wedding where the bar is free and he's going to milk that for all it's worth and talk some loud shit.
  12. A Boy Named Seo wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Matz is a disgrace. We're here watching this bullshit Yah he looks like garbage. And what was with that terrible Zimmo throw? Yeah, he's here to make Harvey and Wheeler feel better about their own situations. Has options too.
  13. If you believe our thread, Dunkirk wasn't particularly engaging filmmaking or history. One user loved it, but apart from the rating, he or she hasn't said what was the appeal. I thought Their Finest was twice the picture, but I don't think it received any Oscar attention.
  14. That's putting your money on the table. He's got to climb over Flores, Reyes, and Cabrera to get there, but stranger things happen.
  15. I may be the best hitter on this team. But I spent a good chunk of 2016 playing my way off the team and playing my way back, and then I spent a good chunk of 2017 as an All-Star and another chunk broken. Broken, like the windows of the Montessori Hebrew school I used to hit baseballs through. Back when I was king of the playground. Broken, like Jennifer's heart after that vampire bitch Angelina stole Brad. Like our electoral system. Like the fallen world and the state of mankind's soul. Broken, broken, and broke. Yeah that was 2017, but you might be able to tell, it's not quite out my head yet. We're talking May 1 for a return date. But a dislocated back shoulder? The back one? On a non-contact swing? That's a freaky thing. And I'm telling you, I don't know if I'll really have my mojo back until I've had a couple of those flailing swings and misses on the sliders away. That's what really jars your shoulder. But the back one? How does that work? So, May 1. Or June 1. Or July 1. I'll let you know. Or better yet, you tell me. What's my 2018 going to look like? Yeah, I get it, douche. I struck out. I'm also lying here in agony, with my career on the line. You could act like you give a shit. Yeah, fine, you've got to complete the play, but throw it to first or something. Be a dude. I'm so looking forward to kicking that guy's ass. CLNA9rL91vQ
  16. Looking at something like the A-List today. Yoenis even brought his glove. 17. “His spot comes up and there is a man on first, I am going to have him bunt. Get him off his feet. Get the bunt down, jog to first, get back in the dugout and go back out and pitch the seventh. “I don’t want him hitting a double. If we are winning 3-1 and he’s throwing a gem, I am not worried about him driving in runs. I want him to get the guy over, get him rest and go pitch the seventh and save one of our bullpen arms. It will look inconsistent, but there will be a reason behind it.” I don't know. I kind of like that double. Bunting as a way of keeping your pitcher from getting winded seems ... sappy. And it sure seems like we've seen our last complete game for a while.
  18. Good work by Schmuck there telling a complicated story.
  19. Amed Rosario Injury/Malady: Knee irritation Current Activity: Pulled from game Prognosis: Day to day.
  20. I like the redundancy of options, the ability to move quickly from week to week, but ultimately I'm not seeing how this is going to play out.
  21. Mets fall by the smallest of scores. The good news offensively is that three of their five hits went to the few A-listers they played. Not much else. The Mets still don't walk enough.
  22. Well, fuck. One of the best citizens in Mets history. All blessings to you, Daniel Joseph.
  23. And game. Three hits, Mets. Better bring your A-game tomorry.
  24. Cheech's second homer (take that, first round-draftee hating Mets) puts them within one. Tying run at first, two out in the ninth, Franco waves the stick ...
  25. Poly Prep's own J.J. Franco making a spring appearance.
