Or "OFFICAL," if it's 1974.

This is the oddest of springs. They become seemingly the last team to make any cuts from their camp roster, and then they cut two big batches in two days, but I guess it helped them outfit themselves with enough players for the double-header. I guess the big surprise so far is Jamie Callahan, who had the combination of being on the roster, and having pitched (with some effectiveness) for the big club last September, to give him a leg up on some of his bullpen competition. But a 6.75 ERA in 6 2/3 innings, including three walks and a homer, gets him sent off. The big surprise to see escape those cuts is A.J. Griffin, who has thrown one inning so far and yielded two runs. Dumb question, but is he actually IN camp? SNY reported that his signing came with an invite, but I'm not sure. I had a goal. It was a filthy goal, involving models and drugs and cars and a whole Charlie Sheen thing. It was gonna be awesome. Reality show awesome. But you know, lately, the models haven't been calling back. Not the Ford ones anyway. I'm a ballplayer, and you can always get a model. Or some chick who says she's a model. But the big-timers? The heavy hitters? They're not calling back. And the car payments are seeming a little more wasteful when you don't know if your last contract is going to be your last contract. I was the king of the world. Just yesterday, and now, I don't know. But you know who does call me back? Mickey and Speedboat. From Brownsville. I tell them I'm done with that shit, but they say know me better than that. I just don't know. OH GOD, there's so MUCH I don't know. What's my arm slot? What's my pitch limit? What's my next surgery? It was all so easy so recently. I'm almost too scared to ask, but what's next?! I have the dextrous hands and the nimble feet to be the shortstop of the future for any team. ANY team. But the Mets have a two-way player they're trying to develop at shortstop. He's already sped past me in the system. So I'm working on becoming more versatile, developing my offensive skills, and maybe, if the wind is right, catch a few bats along the way. But as a guy born to be a shortstop, my path is uncertain. I mean, I could KILL Rosario. I could even make it look like an accident. I'm from Florida, and there's no shortage of crazies down here, and I KNOW a few of them, you know? But it would have been smarter to do it a few years back, while the guy was still developing. Do it now, and everybody would suspect me. And I'd have to act all sad and unworthy to take his place. FUCK that. HE'S the one who's unworthy. And yeah, I'm fat. So what? IT'S GENETICS! Oh, what's the use?! Man, let me stand up ... WHOAH! I don't think I should DRIVE, man! What's that? You already have my keys?! Then let's get out of here, man! Who has my beard? What year is it? WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN TO ME?!! I love you.[*// puke] [fimg=388]https://cdn.chatsports.com/cache/cb/86/cb86668b4162f2e8d704cd3648b048a4-original.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=312]https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/nwFePdHdZnQINCjfNSGrAtTD-Yk=/0x0:2041x2857/1200x800/filters:focal(622x656:948x982)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/56072445/usa_today_9922804.0.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=392]https://content.sny.tv/assets/images/2/5/0/228046250/cuts/USATSI_9944492_e2f7my9a_axe5tf0y.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=308]http://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/IMG_0151-e1490748038648.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=350]http://media.sny.tv/sny/2017/03/02/images/snyf_1228752283_th_48.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=350]https://videos.metro.co.uk/pix/met/2017/03/03/15/3DEB73B300000578-0-image-a-2_1488553762058.jpg[/fimg]

Mets scored in the ninth. #momentum

Well, he's already off.

The Sprinterstate.

dgw should have taken my bet. Syndergaard it is. Part of me will be disappointed to see the Mets' streak of seven opening day starting pitchers in seven years come to an end, novelty though it is. Part of me will be disappointed to see deGrom not get an honor he seemingly has coming to him. Some projectors have Wong leading off, and others have him batting eighth. Stay tuned!

That's unfortunate if true. Even at his best, he punches out way too few batters to be a dick. Not that that look particularly works on Harvey or Syndergaard either. Five starts, 24 relief appearances, and a 3.63 ERA, about a run higher as a starter, and a run lower as a bullpenner.

These announcers are all "Max this" and "Max that" and "When we signed Max." Bleh.

Not content with their A-team getting embarassed at home, Mets put the B-unit on a bus to face the Nats and Max Scherzer. Already down 3-0 after one. Nats so confident that they're letting their pitcher bat while the Mets use the DH. If you hate me, somebody ought to remind you of 2016. If you love me, somebody might remind you of 2017. It was that different. I was a revelation the first year, and went into the next as a meaningful candidate for Rookie of the Year, if I could somehow get the opportunities. Oh, I got the opportunities, all right. And if you were like most people, you spent a lot of Tuesday nights dreading them. Twenty-five starts, with an ERA north of five. Walks up. Homers up. Strikeouts way down. But it's spring. I think I found my sinker. I better have. It's the difference between me being a big league pitcher and a guy who likes to drink beer in the sun with his shirt off, rocking out to Styx, turning pink and dripping hamburger grease on his belly. And that's just no way to be. If you hate me, somebody ought to remind you of 2016. If you love me, somebody might remind you of 2017. And then, maybe you can let me know how 2018 is going to be. Got something like our A-Team out there with Noah Syndergaard on the mound and Houston bringing their #3 pitcher and something like their travel squad. And the Mets lose their best hitter and are getting drubbed.

I think he'll play again.

Syndergaard dialing it up to get out of trubble unscathed in the second.

That's surprising. He's been hurting and unable to play the field. I thought they'd use that as a pretext to give him a rehab assignment.

Gil Hodges-era Met (and Rusty Staub trade bait) Ken Singleton is no Vin Scully, announcing he will be retiring from broadcasting (and the YES team of ex-Mets) at the end of 2018.

I'm not going to be disappointed we missed out on Walker. Yeah, he'll probably knock some out in that Little League stadium, but nobody (except maybe the Brewers) has a better idea of his fitness than the Mets. They made their choices with their eyes open and all options on the table. Here's hoping the Yankees regret letting Todd Frazier walk a lot more than the Mets regret letting Neil Walker go.

Yeah, somebody's got to get him, Brian Dozier, and Derek Holland on the same team sooner or later.

I remember that day. Bob Murphy the next day said that his wife later told him "That new guy the Mets got sounds great!" When he asked her who, she replied, "Claudell Irvington!" I'm not sure if the joke was that she messed up the name or she was making fun of him because he had messed up the name on the air." Nymr83 wrote: Nice. I'm not young. I'm not coming off a good year. I'm not well paid. Well, I am, but not by the Mets. But I have 311 homers, and that's more than anybody else in this camp. That includes Wright.
