  1. Marcos Molina looks like a candidate for the first round o' cuts.

You know, they've seemingly fixed their AA situation, they've seemingly fixed their AAA situation ... maybe the next giant to slay is their bush league broadcast partner.
  3. Through five frames, Los Mets have had two bezrunners — singles by Adrian Gonzales and Tim Tebow, both off of some beanpole (6'4", 180) name Erick Fedde. If only Brandon Nimmo could get a turn at bat.
  4. Well, wait. Did it actually happen that way? The Gameday feed during Spring Training is only accurate in the outcome. It will always display the minimum number of pitches for the outcome. So all strikeouts will display as if they happened on three pitches, all walks will be on four pitches, and all balls in play or HbPs will be on the very first pitch, unless they need to stick another pitch in there to attach a stolen base or a wild pitch or something. That said, no baserunners for the Mets, counting non-football players and everything.
  5. So deGrom got his throwing in, putting him back on schedule for opening day, Mr. Plantar Fasciitis is planted in right for today's lineup, and Lagares is taking his hammies out to center. If they make it through today, things could be looking up. Get Céspequads out of the dh spot and into left once or twice next week, and we might be in business.
  6. The Nats are the traveling team, but they almost certainly have more of a headlining lineup than the Mets. We've got Tim Tebow cleaning up and Matt Reynolds in the wrong trousers. Enjoy! 7. Mike Hair-of-the-Puma-That-Bit-Me suggests in the Post today that Cabrera has a leg up on his teammates in the search for a leadoff hitter. He suggests that it's not even clear if Brandon Nimmo will get the majority of reps before Conforto's return. It seems strange how reluctant the team is to give opportunities to their top draft picks, as Smith and Cecchini have also seen their depth chart position recede since January 1. I guess I should find that refreshing, but I'm kind of a Nimmo believer.
  8. Luis has been with the Mets organization since 2011, and has generally acquitted himself well with a 3.07 ERA, but he chose his MAFA year to have a lousy season, posting a 5.30 figure over 54.1 innings between Binghamton and Las Vegas. Fun fact! Luis pitched briefly in the Dominican Winter League, entering one game, facing four batters, and failing to record a single out. When the inning was over, three of Luis' baserunners had scored, and his season ended with one of those infinite ERAs that only the rarest players ever achieve. 9. I've bounced around on this. It's interesting. Among the big stories of expansion, division play, the raising of the mound to try and swing the pendulum away from the Year of the Pitcher, and the alleged 100th anniversary of professional baseball (if not league play), scribes seem to have gotten away with writing their season previews without making predictions as to who will be the pennant winners.
  10. His final big league season would be 1977, when he became an original Seattle Mariner, appearing in their third-ever game.
  11. Great to hear from Met Hunter, although I'm sorry to read of Tommy's passing. Best wishes to your mom.
  12. All tied up at 2 following a homer from the not-so-tubby-anymore Phil Evans.
  13. Bruce, Frazier, and Gonzo have already given way to Borenstein, Thompson, and Evans, respectively. Mets trail 2-1, with Vargas giving up a tally in the second inning, and Miami adding one in the fifth against foulmouthed Ramos. Familia and Blevvy each threw a scoreless frame.
  14. But the Mets, in their greatness, manufacture a run on a Cabrera single, a double by Jay Bruce sending him to third, and an RBI groundout by Todd Frazier.
  15. Fishmongers get a leadoff single from the powerhouse duo of Toni Braxton and Geddy Lee, but come away scoreless.

  17. That guy knew how to wear a pair of sideburns.
  18. Supporters of baby farm animals everywhere are outraged this morning, responding to reports of Anthony Swarzak allegedly straining his left calf. This strain has been confirmed by MRI (Maddening Results Inevitable). He is receiving treatment, no timetable for return. But hey! Things are looking up for Jamie Callahan! Boy howdy!
  19. Hmm ... interesting. You should post some numbers into Gavin's thread.
  20. He may be one turned ankle away from the opening day roster. Our outfield depth is grave stuff!

Please feel free to respond to what I've written and pretty please stop trying to press upon me what I haven't written. I really don't want to have to type twice. You said it's not common and that you said nothing about tradition. I didn't "say" anything. I wrote something. And that's not all I wrote. Ceetar wrote: As if that refutes my point somehow,... It absolutely does refute your mischaracterization of what I and others had written before, none of which mentioned tradition or wins. Ceetar wrote: ... which you have yet to actually refute and I can't even tell if you're trying to refute it. Well, I don't know what to say. If you don't understand what I've written, you can point out what you don't understand and ask me to clarify, but man, I really think I write clearly. Ceetar wrote: Nothing I wrote was even addressing you specifically until you commented so I'm not really sure what I'm pressing upon you. Awesome. That stuff about tradition and awarding pitchers wins was a characterization of no one's argument. Excellent.

  23. Ceetar wrote: the tradition is hard baked into the rules as per the useless Win statistic. It wasn't baked into my argument. Neither is the win statistic, which I've long considered grossly misleading. Ceetar wrote: would you prefer logically sense? statistical sense? Run scoring is up, fresh relievers perform better than third time through starters, especially non-aces. Aim the pitchers best suited to getting outs at the best run scoring opportunities. I'd prefer what the facts demonstrably support. The term "logically sense" doesn't even make grammatical sense.
  24. Ceetar wrote: The 5th and 6th are some of the highest scoring innings, period. The heart of the lineup lines up with the third time through penalty. Games are won and lost, and Mickey's saying "hey, maybe let's address that". It's really just common sense and not sticking to a starting pitcher just because tradition suggests he should get more innings. It's actually not common, and I actually wrote nothing about tradition.
  25. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: What's wrong with a four inning start from Vargas if we've got Lugo warning like a starter for a 3-5 inning stint behind him. We're asking two guys to perform well, where previously we asked for one. And you go from asking it, to needing it. And then it's three and four and five. And needing more guys to perform on a given night is a more unsustainable a trick to pull off than needing fewer. And then there's tomorrow night.
