  4. Getting a head start on 2019, but it reports say John Gibbons will be done with the Blue Jays after this season, following 11 years over two tenures as Toronto manager. Gibb sports a career 783-777 record, so he'll have to fight to keep that mark above water as the Jays play out a string that includes three games each against the Sox, Yankees, and Astros.
  5. Will there be an Asdrubal Cabrera highlight video? PLEASEPLEASEYESDOITPLEASE.
  6. The Mets' prospects may or may not be augmented by the potential presence of returning reliever Anthony Swarzak.
  7. He and Urena were both genuine prospects two or three years ago. Like, if they weren't listed among the top 10 third base prospects in baseball, they were just outside of it. Both their careers went sideways shortly after, but this isn't completely out of the blue. Guys just disappear quickly from prospect lists when an injury gives them a shortened or shitty season or two. Some for good reason. But some find their way back.

Guys, this is the equivalent of an outfielder holding up his glove on a ball he knows he trapped, an attempted fake catch that's happened multiple times per week ever since Nelson Doubleday's ancestor fake invented this game. Sort of. I mean, an outfielder who holds up a ball in his glove after a trap can plausibly claim he genuinely thought he made the catch. A guy holding up a toy in place of the ball cannot. It's another sort of thing. Another level and stuff.
  9. The Daily Mail has ust the salacious Wifey Watch content that you subscribe to all those British tabloids to get. It seems 18th District New York State Senate candidate Julia Salazar was a figure in the breakup of Keith Hernandez's second marriage, to then-wife Kai. Arrests, finger-pointing, accusations, out-of-court settlements, Florida — it's all in the mix. I don't know how to piece it together, but sometimes Wifey Watch has to go there.
  10. I know if Todd Frazier, 2017 Yankee thirdbaseman, pulled it off I'd be disapproving, so I wouldn't be particularly consistent if I didn't declare him forthwith to be a vile, reprobate cozener. And yeah, it can be argued that the Mets are playing out the string, but the Dodgers sure ain't.
  11. The Mets better hunt them down and pass them before this season is out. They gained on all three teams ahead of them last night.
  12. "It's hilarious. Everytime I talk to folks back home about you, they think I'm talking about a chick. The Mariners have somebody named Dee? Is she a ballgirl?" "Dude, your name is Jean." "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?!"
  13. That gives the current president too much credit. He's more of a wretched, ignominious chiseler.

Is that he husband? bmfc1 wrote: That's Burt Sugarman with a "Midnight Special" of a nap. That's some great teamwork, gents.
  15. Todd's a charlatan. A mountebank. A conniver and a confidence man of the lowest standing.
  16. Check out 2009, though. Everybody who reached the bigs, except for Matz, did it for another organization, after either not signing or crapping out with the Mets. The only one who at first glance seems to have gotten any traction was 50th-rounder Zack Godley, and he did it after getting taken the next year and signed by the Phils. And Matz, of course, has spent multiple years in the wilderness.
  17. The following dudes were taken in the draft by the Mets during the reign of Omar Minaya as general manager. There had been some confusion as to who was in charge for which drafts. During this time, his scouting directors were Russ Bove (2005), Rudy Terrasas (2006–2010). Listed are only the ones who made it to the big leagues, though some certainly made it with other organizations (Drew Butera), some after even after a release by the Mets (Jonathan Holdzkom), and some didn't sign with them at all, but made it the bigs after being drafted again later (Damien Magnifico). 2005 Mike Pelfrey (Round 1) Drew Butera (5) Jon Niese (7) Bobby Parnell (9) Luis Martinez (11) Josh Thole (13) Pedro Beato (17) Jeremy Hefner (48) 2006 Kevin Mulvey (2) Joe Smith (3) John Holdzkom (4) Daniel Murphy (13) Tobi Stoner (16) Joshua Stinson (37) Vic Black (41) Johnny Monell (49) 2007 Eddie Kunz (1) Zach Lutz (5) Lucas Duda (7) Robert Carson (14) Dillon Gee (21) Juan Centeno (32) 2008 Ike Davis (1) Kirk Nieuwenhuis (3) Josh Satin (6) Eric Campbell (8) Collin McHugh (18) Chris Schwinden (22) 2009 Steven Matz (2) Darrell Ceciliani (4) Damien Magnifico (5) David Buchanan (6) Mitch Haniger (31) Joe Mantiply (48) Zack Godley (50) 2010 Matt Harvey (1) Matt Den Dekker (5) Jacob DeGrom (9) Akeel Morris (10) Adam Kolarek (11) Erik Goeddel (24) Josh Edgin (30) Jesen Therrien (36) Brock Stewart (40)
  18. That's a shame about Ohtani. It'll be interesting to find out the difference between how long he'll have to rehab before he's allowed to DH, and how long he'll have to rehab before he's allowed to pitch. Also, since he has options, I guess he can DH with the big league club but go down to the minors every fifth day for a "rehab" appearance, even if it's not a rehab assignment. The Sox are a disgustingly well-oiled machine right now. There are some good teams out there, but they're surely my bet at this juncture.
  19. That guy behind the ARCO sign — he was like that for the last four innings. I was hoping his date would eventually check for a pulse. [fimg=700:3mgoh05y]https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2018/09/screen-shot-2018-09-05-at-10-13-35-pm.png[/fimg:3mgoh05y]
  20. If you want to buy Zack Wheeler, talk to Cody Bellinger. He owns him.
  21. And maybe he should've been yanked.
  22. Yeah, that's great that it missed his arm, Gary, but it hit his fucking chest. Shit way to lose the no-hitter.
  23. Grandal really messed that up, but I've got to say, Ryu is really throwing some slop.
  24. The walkoff homer by Peter Alonso wasn't the only bright note the Las Vegas 51s season ended on. Outfielder Patrick Kivlehan and starting pitcher Drew Gagnon were named Pacific Coast League Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The final week of the season brought honors all across the organization, with Jhoan Urena of Binghamton David Peterson joining them as Eastern League Player of the Week, along wth St. Lucies David Peterson (Florida State League Pitcher of the Week) and Kingsport's Yoel Romero (Appalachian League Player of the Week). That's the organization walking off with five of the 12 trophies available for the final week.
  25. Last night, Steve Gelbs, Mets sideline reporter, amazingly reported as fact, rather than conjecture, that Todd Frazier had duped the umps into ruling an out on a catch he didn't make. I reviewed the video evidence, and it is anything from conclusive that Todd, supposedly, presented a squishy toy ball that ended up underneath him as the real McCoy. Or McGraw. Or whatever. So what does Gelbs know to lay it out as an established fact that the Mets' thirdbaseman is a grim deceiver, an inveigler, and a chiseler of the lowest order? Has a teammate spoken off the record? Todd himself?
