Record tied. Game in the fifth.

Yeah, McNeil looks more than a little bell-shaped. I had to stare for a bit to figure out it was him.

But as you said, not so much with regard to Lenny. https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/07.p1.lcf_.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=780>

Sort of. Except worse. The funny thing was that he was missing all over the place with his fastball. I think when he's gotten high walk numbers in the past, it was from nibbling with his slider. Hopefully, this can be a quick mechanical fix. He pounded the zone with the fastball the second half last year, sort of like good Harvey. Folks would foul two off and he could then throw them anything.

Wheeler | Rosario | Lowrie Nimmo | Ramos | Conforto (kinda small-lookin') McNeil | Diaz Syndergaard | Cano deGrom MIA (in approximate order of profile on 2/1): Céspedes, Matz, Familia, Alonso, Lugo, Frazier, Lagares, Gsellman, Vargas, d'Arnaud, Smith, Avilan, Broxton, Davis, Guillorme, Nido, Peterson, Wilson.

It would be a damned shame if Ron still failed to recognize (or recall) that 33 years later.

The timeline seems to add up. Do you think they were having a meeting around Murph when he was suffering from more than a drunken night?

I went with #3. I like the fact that most Piazza magazine cover shoots could double as a shoot for a Hello Mr. cover, and everybody was OK with that. Also, the sidebars about David Wells and Dennis Rodman underscore the strange era of sports-star-as-self-promoting-out-control-tabloid subject, before Deadspin and TMZ made such characters ubiquitous and banal. All we need is a little John Daly to round out the crew.

Meanwhile, here in Baltimore is a reality check for the ages. Chris Davis, coming off one of the truly worst seasons in history (despite hitting a homerun against the Mets) for which he was paid $23,000,000, has started 2019 in an 0-for-23 void. Combined with his crawling across the finish line in 2018, his current hitless streak has reached 0-for-44. This is two shy of the MLB futility steak record set by Eugenio Velez across the 2010 and 2011 seasons, split between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. I have to say, he looks so defeated that you get the idea he's going to fly past that record. If the Orioles let him. He is signed through 2022 at $23,000,000 per annum. https://cdn1.thecomeback.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/539616156-832x447.jpg>

https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2018/12/Wilson-Ramos.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1> I've been reading all these Hey, Nineteenies. And frankly, they make me sick. Just look at d'Arnaud's, at Patrick Mazeika's, at Devin Mesoraco's, at Tomás Nido's, at Colton Plaia's, at ... Eric Fuckin' Langill's! I mean, LO fucking L, right? All these guys are hinting of an exceedingly fine 2019, and all that fineness is predicated on me being out of the picture. As if! I'm not looking to get hurt. I'm not looking to fuck up. I'm not looking to go the way of the dodo. I'm doing everything I can to prevent that happenstance, and all these other mutts in Mets uniforms are not-so-privately rooting against it. I'm sick of it. "Hey, it'd be a shame if Ramos turned an ankle, but if it happens, I'm ready!" "Nobody want's to see Wilson get popped for PEDs, but if it goes down like that, they've got a great alternative resource in me!" It's enough to make a guy paranoid. I'm a borderline All-Star catcher that the Mets have paid perfectly good money for. I can bat in the middle of the order, handle the running game without embarrassing myself, and run a staff of awesome pitchers. If I put aside my Nike and Under Armour chest protectors, I can wear a classic Wilson protector, and then have my first name on my chest to match my last name on my back. But even though that would be cool, I don't do that, because it's not about me. It's about the TEAM. So, yeah, it's my intention to catch 140 games and frustrate the hell out of the rest of the rest of those bastards. If it goes down that way, it'll be good for the TEAM. But how's it gonna go down? Remember, if you bet against me, I will take it personally, and you'll be dead to me. DEAD.

Well, Wheeler not so much. I'm kind of hoping to not have to replace him.

We have our first in-season transaction, and it's the kind you want to see, because it's about a guy getting healthy, rather than a guy getting hurt. Note to Mesoraco: This is why they didn't take you to New York for opening day. d'Arnaud's replacement was only going to be around a week, so of course they chose a guy with options. The other thing about that is the two big Mets rallies were sorta ended by homers. Just keep the line movin', dudes. Great things happen when you set up the guy behind you.

Do you like Mets prospects? Well, I don't know anybody who doesn't! And that's why, if you live in Cola Town, you are one lucky son of a bitch. Look, I know I'm so late with this post that the Columbia Fireflies roster has already absorbed several transactions, and after taking a 7-2 nutpunch this afternoon from their South Carolina rivals, The Charleston RiverDogs, they have dropped to 1-3, suggesting we would have done well to be following these guys earlier. But the fact remains that this — THIS! — is the place to get your Met prospect mojo working in 2019. Pimply-faced teenagers looking to TAKE OVER THE WORLD! Take shortstop Ronny Mauricio. The Ronburger is the Mets #3 prospect (according to MLB.com) and is 5-for-his-first-15, having just turned 18 three days ago. He is being pushed, having spent most of last season in the GCL, playing just eight games at Kingsport, jumping right over Brooklyn to become a Firefly. While he's performed well despite being far below the age mean wherever he's been, he's got the typical shortcomings of speedy guys who get pushed. He whiffs too much and walks too little. He is from San Juan de Macoris, where magic fills the air and flows in the water and feeds the soil. Some people call him MAURICE! He's terrific, but it's OK to slow down and let a guy learn the plate, Mets. You've had your fill of Mo? Well, take Mark Vientos. The strapping 6'4" 185-pounder was a second-rounder out of high school in 2017, and now, even though he's getting pushed off shortstop by Mauricio, Keith Law has him as the team's #1 prospect and #60 in all of baseball. A .287 / .389 / .489 // .878 line last year in Kingsport, with 11 homers in only 60 games has definitely raised his stock. While Law's ranking is an outlier, he's rising on a lot of lists. Those guys are on offense? You want pitching, take big powerful Simeon Woods-Richardson. Sim Score is MLB's #7 Mets prospect, and it looks like the Mets are going to work him as a starter. He struck out 26 in 17 1/3 innings last year, walking only four. Those are numbers that make me think things, but again, let's see what he does in a full-season league. He's from Sugar Land, Texas, one of the growing pockets of baseball civilization, in a football-dominant state. I know what you're thinking. I do. You're thinking, "Top international free agents from San Pedro de Marcoris?!! Second-round picks out of high school with their asses filled with helium?! Gosh, Edgy, that's a mouthful of prospect hot sauce!!" Yes, yes, it is. But would you believe me if I told you ... there's more? Well, there is! How about another traffic-stopping teen-aged infielder?! Shervyen Newton is your switch-hitting dynamo out of the Netherlands. He's got an advanced approach at the plate for his age, a metric ton of walks already in his young career, the defensive tools to stick at short if Mauricio gets out of the fucking way, and ass that won't quit. The dude has a career ISOBP of .135. MLB.com says he's the Mets #5 prospect, but I say he's supergood, and if he makes it (WTF am I saying?!! WHEN he makes it!), he'll be the first Met ever out of mainland Holland. Am I telling you that Columbia is packing three of the top five Mets prospects? And four of the top seven? No, I'm not. MLB.com is telling you that. But I bet there's some consensus. What more could you ask of this team? How about Thomas Szapucki? That's right, the lefthander with a great fastball-curve combo, who has been sequined dynamite whenever he's been on the mound, currently MLB's #9 prospect, will be on the mound this season for Columbia. Yeah, he's been hurt, and he missed 2018 with Tomás Juan surgery, but now he's back out there, and anything they get out of him will be awesome. This is his recovery year, so if he flourishes, every night will be pizza night. That's five of the top nine, if you're still keeping score. Listen, I'm gonna need you to calm the fuck down. I know you're planning on emptying out your 401K and moving down to Columbia. I mean, five of the top nine prospects in one uniform? But here's the deal, if you live in the New York area, or perhaps in near one of the cities of their division rivals, you get to see the BIG KAHUNA, #1 prospect Pete Alonso, who's already getting it done in the Show. But if you want further enticement, let me rap to you about Christian James. CJ — the family calls him CJ — is a righthander who destroyed the New York Penn League last season, amassing a 2.01 ERA over 71 2/3 innings without a big pile of strikeouts. He even pitched a game each with St. Loo and Bingo, where he should have been in over his head, but instead gave up one run over nine innings between the two. CJ starts down here in Columbia, but will probably spend more time in St. Lucie, so encourage your Palmetto State friends to root for him while they can. He came out of the same Florida high school as Eric Hanhold, so tip your hat to whatever bird dog scout the Mets sent down there. That guy is MLB.com's #26 prospect. If he finds a strikeout pitch — and Gsellman has shown those can sometimes come late — he'll shoot up that chart like a monkey shimmying up a cocoanut tree. In fact, it'll be EXACTLY like that. If you give a guy one point for being MLB.com's #30 Met prospect, and 30 points for being their #1 prospect, and similarly grade everybody in between, there are 465 prospect points available. Score them that way, and 132 points worth of prospect juice are being poured from the taps down in Columbia — that's 28.4% of all the juice in the system. If all that doesn't make your heart flutter, consider the case of infielder Edgardo Fermin. Edgy hasn't yet been deployed by the Flies, and considering the boy band's worth of teen infielders, you can guess why. The dude's full name is Edgardo ALFONZO Fermin. I don't know if he's a member of the extended Fonzie family, or he was perhaps named after the Fonz, but he was born in Venezuela in 1998, so perhaps he was named for our guy. It would be cool if he was the missing link between the Alfonzo and Fermin families of MLB. That's the deal. How this pile of excellence is 1-4 so far is an historical accident. Victories will come, and will pile one on top of the other. Beyond counting. If you watch this team, even on occasion, with one eye, that is what you will see. You'll tell your grandkids about this team. Or, maybe not. I'm not really sure. I mean, that might happen — who knows? — but it's baseball, and who can predict it? McNeil becomes the fourth Met hit by a pitch this afternoon, starting their coming rally of at least six runs.

Rosey is pulled after two batters and still no outs. Tying run on triple deck for the Mets.

Rosenthal brings his infinite ERA into the game and instantly hits Dom Smith.

A three-run homer by that Alonzie kid and 12-1 is now 12-6.
