I don't know if you're getting this, but MLB.tv just played a HORRIBLE tribute-to-Jackie Robinson commercial featuring Mario Lopez, who was more or less the darkest-hued person in the spot.

A small transaction before today's game, and another one we didn't get in before yesterday's game, due to the outage. I tend to think adding more relievers to your roster is like adding more guns to your house. The problem is that the more you get, the more likely you are going to use them. And using them means you avoid a simpler, if more conservative answer (let your successful pitchers go for more innings), and you're more likely to be solving a problem that isn't really there while creating a problem that didn't exist before. Anyhow, everybody welcome back Paul Sewald, and wish him luck on improving on the worst won-lost record ever. Noah Syndergaard takes the hill for the Mets first 2019 match against Philadelphia, as Aaron Nola, sporting an ERA in the Jason Vargas-as-a-Met range, opposes the invasion as best he can. Overkill is the name of the game as everybody wears 42. And Budweiser offers this heartfelt ad at Mets.com. https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/pagead/imgad?id=CICAgKD7yvPevQEQARgBMgjE4KKVJD4fcA>

Yeah, how embarrassing for them.

All the night without a Crane Pool, all through that Sucker Sunday loss last night, I was thinking about this photo. Here's the nickname we're all missing: "Pete LaCock."

“That's bullshit!” he said, watching it. “I was batting .178 in Tidewater!"

"Bozack Bear"

Yup. Let Lugo pitch the non-existent 10th for all I care.

I'd say he looks like he's back.

Gary bringing us a Jane Jarvis reference. I feel like it's Christmas.

"Hi, I'm Pete Alonso for Big Dick Energy Drink. If you want the energy of a big dick in a 7 ounce bottle, try Big Dick. You'll feel like a new man walking around with a Big Dick in you." "Big Dick Energy Drink. If it lasts more than four hours, call a doctor."

Mets giving the Braves' gun-running rightfielder a lot of chasing work.

That's the way, Canó. I was getting ready to take away Willie Mays' number for him and give him Willie Harris'.

Here's to an effective lineup and to bunting against the shift. Way to go, McNeilio.

It's a pretty cool story across the board.

Well, in fairness, deGrom is hitting more than Nimmo of late.

Was it Alonso whose draft-day photo seemed to feature him going commando, with his baseball pants outlining his junk in detail?

It's hard to get too excited over Marquez' return when I look at this shot, him taking what he hoped would be a huge hack, only to get fooled by the pitch's break and end up overextended. The ball sits calmly in the dirt, un-noticed by both batter and catcher, looking up at him as if thinking, "Nice try, dumbass." http://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/5C754A9E-CC85-4A65-A3AB-8E4688A46878.jpeg> But then you see this vid of his first hit since returning, and, well, it's only one hit, but you get a taste of what NFL receiver/special teamer athleticism can look like on a baseball field and you think, "God, I hope he figures this game out." He drives one down the left field line, but he tears so much ass on the basepaths, you get the idea he could have had a triple on it.

As we note with sadness the fall of Columbia this evening to the Lexington Legends by a football-like score of 14-3, we have some HOLY SHIT! news from the South Atlantic League. NFL veteran Bradley Marquez has joined the squad. Bradley Madly was drafted by the Mets way back in 2011, round 16. But as he toiled away in the minors, he continued to play football, and upon his finishing up of school, joined the NFL's St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent, leaving behind two undistinguished partial seasons with the Kingsport Mets. For five years he toiled as a reserve receiver and special teamer, but the Mets seemed to persistently keep him on the roster of their minor league teams. Now, after half a decade of earning some serious coin getting his head smashed in, The Lord of the Marq has returned to his first love. He's still only 26, but this will still be a tough shot. Welcoming him back at the A-Ball level, it looks like maybe they're trying to give him the same latecomer route as Tim Tebow, forcing him as many reps as possible in the full-season leagues, and maybe give him half a season at each level, and see if he can handle the accelerated plan. More than once, I figured that Marquez was still appearing on rosters because of a clerical error. But no, here he is after five years in the desert. Yeah, he'll likely never get to the bigs, but if he somehow pulls it off, the Mets could have two NFL vets in one outfield. Marquez is 1-for-7 so far. Welcome back!! The news is far more interesting these days if your name is Walter Rasquin. The young Venezuelan infielder has been tearing it up since the start of the season, hitting .364 / .636 / .364 // 1.000 shrough the team's first seven games. He deserves the number 13, despite having missed half of 2018 serving hard time for a PED suspension. Simeon Woods Richardson is setting the pace among starters, being un-scored upon in 2019. But so far, that has only accounted for 4 2/3 innings for the team, with both of his starts being abbreviated. Perhaps the team is experimenting with the "opening pitcher" strategy, but I suspect they are trying to limit innings for a guy coming off of surgery, and he'll get more typical workdays as the season progresses. Mashing out of the pen so far has been the hardy work Ezequiel Zabaleta, who has been untouched in his first four outings, totaling 4.0 innings, with five strikeouts and no walks. This is where the Mets prospects show the most beefiness, and Columbia is always a lovely place to visit. Won't you buy some tickets and cheer to victory the Mets of the Future?! Hang in there, Diaz.
