1. Who is the third voice in the booth?
2. Say what you want about receding glaciers, but it allowed us to find and thaw out Dallas Braden.
3. Gabriel Ynoa gets a callup to the Orioles after missing all of 2018 with a stress fracture in his shin. His absence was a big part of why the 2018 O's were so terrible.
4. "Mr. and Mrs. Benning, after all the sacrifices you've made for Kenny, what does it mean to see him out there with the pros, finally anesthetizing a surgery patient here in a major league operating room. I can imagine it's a little bit surreal right now."
5. I'm mentally in 1973.
6. I think that was short, surly, clean-shaven Joe Morgan, breaking for first in a futile effort to beat the double-play.
7. Solo homers in games where a team is trying to come back can be excruciating things. The keep-the-line-moving offense of a week or two ago... that was beautiful.
8. I will say that's a pretty eighties lineup Keith Hernandez is anchoring there: Joe Klein, Ward Just and Kenneth Turan.
9. Special thanks to the pinch-hitter.
10. Still, there's a lot more narrative there — and important historical narrative — then you'll ever get out of Keith's goofy yacht club outfit.
11. Oakland turns a jaw-dropping DP, as Ramón Laureano flies over the fence to snag a should-be homerun to center-left-center off the bat of Teoscar Hernandez. Not satisfied with staggering everybody with what he can do with his wheels and his left arm. Laureano positions himself to show off his right one. Baserunner Justin Smoak chose not to tag, but he seems to have forgotten that he's not fast, and he went a step or three past the alternative half-way option that they teach you. Laureano sets himself good and fires the ball a staggering ditance, pretty much the same length as it was just hit, but totally Céspedeses it — stunning people as much with the massive power of his arm as with how incredibly off his aim is. Smoak, forgetting for a second time that he is not a fast man, breaks for second, But catcher Nick Hundley, showing the ol' Jerry Grote hustle in backing up first, makes a great effort to keep Laureno's Howitzer blast from going into the dugout, gets up and fires to second, to nail Smoaky. Bam! The old 8-2-6. The best friend a pitcher never knew he had.

13. Nah. These things change regularly. Gravitation to the mean, if nothing else.
14. https://secure.milb.com/assets/images/5/1/4/290167514/cuts/960x540/cut.jpg> Yeah, I know. None of you had much interest in projecting the 2019s of Luis Rivera, Amed Rosario, and Ryder Ryan. And yeah, I know, we're multiple weeks into the season and E-Money is still trying to cycle through all the many principals on this team. But fuck and shit, I've been waiting my turn and I'm going to get my thread. I'm Ali Sanchez, Venezuealan cather signed back in 2014, and invited to shake my thing in Major League camp this spring. You know I'm a good defensive player, because my offensive numbers couldn't have kept me going this long. I'm not exactly a black hole offensively, but I'm not a living burning star either. But it's cool to be Ali Sanchez. Me and Amed Rosario talk all the time about having Arabic first names and Spanish last names. We're like a couple of relics from the battle of Cordoba in 1492 playing baseball in the US in 2019. But he's playing every day in New York and I'm backing up at Binghamton. And I'm not only hitting .222, but it's as empty as a .222 can be — going 6-for-27 with no walks and no extra-base hits. I'm probably better than that. I mean, I OPS'd at .681 across A and A+ last year, but my low-calorie batting averages have been something of a constant throughout my career. My .258 career batting average says "Gary Carter," while my .643 career OPS says Gary Nolan. But you know that all means. I already told you. It means GREAT DEFENDER. Look, I was one of the top international signees back in 2014, but there have been injuries. I'm not making excuses, but my development has hit a couple of snags. I'm a cat behind the plate, have quick exchanges, give my body up in the blocking game, and am a respected game caller. I just have to translate that dexterity and coordination into some consistent batmanship. Maybe that shows up in 2019. Maybe. What say you? https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/y-Q0G2VwTQ-pKeJ65fr_3owqpsE=/800x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/13661550/Ali_Sanchez.gif>
15. I listened to that broadcast as well. It could have been called "Two Drunk Guys Who Can Barely Lift Their Heads Struggling to Describe the Moving Shapes in Front of Them." I drove home thinking of sending St. Louis a sizzle reel of my own.
16. Maybe. Maybe for his own purposes. But allowing the team to routinely scope him sets a precedent that hurts his union brothers who haven't yet cashed in. I could be wrong, but I think is part of what players, unions, and agents talk about.
17. Does Jed Lowrie play short? Rosario is not developing. Better yet Andres Gimenez Your assessment of Amed Rosario would be most welcome in the "http://thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28245Hey, Nineteen: Amed Rosario" thread.
18. I'm guessing both the player and the union that represents him doesn't have a professional interest in letting his team MRI his wing every two months, even if he might have a health interest.
19. http://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Ryan-1-e1522029380631.jpg> I'm Ryder Ryan. Not the other way around. I received an invitation to Spring Training from the Mets this year. "Big whoop," you might think, except for the fact that, you know, you didn't receive an invitation anywhere. Yeah, I only got two innings, giving a up a single run on a solo homer, but I think I rocked it. Which is neither here nor there if I can't pitch well now that I've been assigned to Bingo. But I'm rocking a 5.68 AA ERA so far this year, and some folks might be kind of worried about my career dying on the vine. But it's early. I was brought in as payment when the Mets treaded Jay Bruce. The first time. Bruce went to Cleveland, came back on a new contract and then got traded again. I, in the meantime, haven't gotten past AA. You can be a smartass about that, but I know I'm going to hit the big time. And there are two reasons why. The first is nomenclature. I was one of the first picks for the Mets Organizational All-Porny-Sounding Name Team*. There are porny names, and then there's my porny name, and you can't keep a name this porny down. Did you know I have a baseball-playing brother named https://www.linkedin.com/in/sean-ryan-8a147442/River Ryan? These are not traditional Irish names. Unless you're talking Irish porn. The second is, quite simply, pedigree. Did you know https://www.linkedin.com/in/sean-ryan-8a147442/my father played professional ball? Well, he did! He was drafted by the Phils and made it all the way as high as AAA. A righthanded, switch-hitting firstbaseman who also played some third. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/WLkAAOSw9Lxbp1xj/s-l300.jpg> Now you may be all, "Big deal, a lot of people play AAA." And I answer, "A lot, relative to what, asshole? How much AAA baseball did your father play?" But wait, 'cuz the bloodlines don't end there. There's my https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Ryan_%28baseball%29Uncle Jason. Jason was drafted by the Cubs, and ultimately, did pitch in the majors. Look at this goth-assed card: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/5183Ki4KwmL.jpg> That's eleven seasons in the minors and two in the majors. I bet you don't have an Uncle Jason. And if you do, he's not as cool as mine. Uncle, shmuncle? Did I hear you say "Uncle shmuncle"? First of all, get stuffed. Second of all, I got me a great uncle too. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/madjeed01.shtmlEd Madjeski. He was born in . Third of all, back in the depression, when other folks were living in Hooverville or working in the CCC or the WPA or trying to farm a pile of dust, why, old https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/madjeed01.shtmlUncle Ed was playing big league ball just like Uncle Jason. Except better. Uncle Edgy was a catcher with the Phils, the White Sox, and the Giants. That's right, Uncle Ed played with Mel Ott, while your great uncle just played with himself. He was catching Carl Hubbell while your great uncle was catching diptheria! (That's not really the sick burn I meant it to be, but you get the idea.) https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/V~8AAOSwH1NZhRLV/s-l300.jpg> And I know, you're all, "Yeah, you've got these ballplayers in your family. Some better than others. None Hall-of-Famers, but it's a legacy, but it's not like that makes you cool by association!" Maybe not, my cynical interlocutor, but you know who makes me cool as shit by association? My grandfather. Ol' Gramps Tim Ryan was a songwriter who with and for Hank Williams, Jr. (after the accident, but before Bocephus had drifted into self-parody), and toured with The Marshall Tucker Band. Listen, man, some may think that a super-porny name and almost-famous relations isn't all that. I'm saying there's more under the hood here than those people see. But what do you see? In 2019, what, indeed, to you see for me? * Pitchers Jose Butto, Columbia Willie Taveras, Columbia Zachary Hammer, GCL Jurgen Jiminez, DSL 1 Jimmy Duff, Brooklyn Pen Eric Hanhold, Syracuse Matt Blackham, Binghamton Ryder Ryan, Binghamton (me) Adonis Uceta, Binghamton Trey Cobb, St. Lucie Mitch Hickey, Kingsport Jefferson Escorcha, DSL 1 Catchers Ali "Dirty" Sanchez, Binghamton Wilfred Astudillo, Kinsport Infielders Dilson Herrera, Syracuse Manny Rodriguez, St. Lucie Will Toffey, Bingo Chase Chambers, Columbia L.A.
