1. Story could done a pirouette and completed that DP. I like Dom with the shredded pants look.
2. I'm just tuning in. Why does Alonso look like he's been crying?
3. Hrabosky, by the way was a beast. Here he is trying to mix it up half naked with a reporter, and he's got that compact, dense, ropey physique of a strongman in a Russian circus who does all his exercises with ropes and kettle bells. Or maybe the guy who catches cannonballs in the gut.
4. For a maid, he's pretty fucking slow.
5. That's some sweet inside info. NICE. Meanwhile, let's reveal that lineup the way God and Sherwood Shwartz meant for it to be revealed. https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/8027.jpg> https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/6960.jpg> https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/5812.jpg> https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/4946.jpg> https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/4013.jpg> https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/3957.jpg> https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/5994.jpg> https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/4263.jpg> https://images.fantasypros.com/images/mlb/players/250x250/4850.jpg>
6. Yeah, I lost some dough on that same horse.

8. The thread that features extra-curricular bench-clearing confrontations of yore. Here we have what sounds like a great wrestling matchup, with The Mad Hungarian going after The Italian Stallion. Unfortunately, Bob Murphy cuts out just as things are getting interesting. Phil Niekro looks about 70 as he tries to play peacemaker, but hey, he's well younger there than I am now. 9. No doubt, but there's something "easy" — if not at all graceful — about hitting a homer to right center while looking so very ugly in your execution. I'm sure I've seen homers on uglier swings — Kirk Gibson's most famous homer, for instance, and half of Mark McGwire's 1998 homers — but I'm not sure I've seen a Met hit a homer on an uglier swing. And I've seen Rey Ordóñez homer.
10. It's hard to even compare young foreign prospects to American counterparts, because they start earlier and get pushed harder. Before they even mature in many cases. When Rosario had first come up, it was clear he hadn't grown into his body yet. But he was in the high minors when Kelenic hadn't graduated from high school. And no, he wasn't flourishing. On the other hand, he was pretty much the top-rated prospect by the time he graduated. I don't know what's going to come of Rosario, but he has a damn good chance this year to break the team record for homers by a shortstop. That's not nothing. (The record for plays to the backhand is probably out of his reach, though.) But man, I can't really figure out the goal of that deal at all.
11. http://content.sny.tv/assets/images/8/3/8/185362838/cuts/ClgMgL0WEAAtIAk_1.jpg_large_bzwpjwmw_3ocy36ps.jpeg> A two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh by Carlos Cortes turned a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 lead for The St. Lucie Mets over the Yankee-affiliated Tampa Tarpons, a lead that two innings of shutout pitching by Ezequiel Zabaleta, preserved. The win, nonetheless, didn't buy the Mets a whole lot of juice in the race, as they have been 5-5 over their last 10, currently sitting four games out in The Florida Sate League South Division, with an elimination number of seven. But you've got to believe. You've done such a good job believing in Tommy Wilson that he's pointed his DeLorean north to Binghamton. Stepping up in his stead has been Luc Rennie. Cool-Hand Luc had a bad relief outing a week or two ago, but wrapped around that have been four starts that weren't farts. He logged 22 innings in this time, yielding only 13 hits and five runs, for a 2.05 ERA as a starter. Unusually for the Florida State League, the runs he has allowed have been on solo homers. If he gets the ball down a little more, Luc will be no fluc. An evolving situation in the bullpen has been the dominance of Darwin Ramos. While the Mets feature several strong relievers, since arriving from Columbia on the Beagle, Darwin has climbed the pecking order as he has flattened Floridian opponents, allowing only one earned run in his first three appearances, covering seven innings. That run, too, has come on a solo homer, so even the Florida State League may be broken. In related news, the Vatican has honored another Darwin Ramos — this one a Filipino street child stricken with Duchenne muscular dystrophy — as a servant of God. So it's high-praise time if your name is Darwin Ramos. But if you want to praise, praise away when you look upon the likes of Blake Tiberi. With six hits in his last three games, Blake the Rake has stepped up his act as his team's leading hitters — Luis Carpio and Quinn Brodey — have both been sent to Binghamton. Hitting .279 / .311 / .512 // .823 over his last 10 games, Blake has invited his teammates onto his back as manager Chad Kreuter is forced to rebuild his lineup. And rebuild it they will as they turn the page on the first half, but not just yet as they still have one last chance to make a run at the first half title. That chance begins tonight as they visit Lakeland. Kyle Wilson takes the mound. 12. Mitch went to bed with a 4-2 lead, but woke up in a 5-4 deficit.
13. And wasn't hopelessly off balance when doing it.
14. He went 2-4 in his first game back, with a triple and no strikeouts. 15. Well, some guys got soul, and some don't. As for Cindy, each of the Martin-Brady girls get a verse of their own. When you're in a family act, you can't just drop the weak links, You've got carry them and give them opportunities. They're family! And, as weak links go, Peter and Cindy were always a load to carry.
16. No way! Bobby's trippy, soulful, psychedelic, minor-key bridge is the BEST PART!! Look at Pete Sterne's face! He agrees! It's so good it gets reprised! Mickey burned pretty much his whole bench in one inning there. All he had left was Canó and if he couldn't go, it was going to be Kranepool.
17. One year? I'd've thought he'd get three or so. The guy needs some security. Now he's got to go through the misery of contemporary free agency again in the Fall. It'll be interesting to see what he has. He led the league in batters faced last year, the second time he's done that in four seasons, and he had his highest ERA since 2013. But all the rest he's had will likely help, once he gets the rust off. For an impressively high strikeout era, he doesn't really get his share. My theory is that guys like that who nonetheless find a niche in their twenties, the league catches up with them in their 30s — Randy Jones, James Baldwin, Mark Fydrich, Mike Hampton. Anyhow, the Mets have seemingly played everybody else in the division a million times, but they've only locked up with Atlanta four times, so we should get a front row seat. He might even be ready for the June 17-19 series the Mets have in Atlanta.
18. Even if you plan better than anybody, a lot of things still have to go right to win a championship, and a lot of things did. Not only did Darryl Strawberry not tear his thumb on a dive and Mookie Wilson not shatter glasses into his eyeball, but more than a few unexpected players stepped up their game and became key contributors. A reminder of Centerfield's criteria: Here are the rules. 1. It must be someone who is not on anyone's reasonable radar for this year. So "I think this is the year Michael Conforto puts it all together" is not an acceptable answer. Neither are top prospects on the doorstep that we expect/hope will contribute. So Peter Alonso, get the fuck outta here. The more obscure the better. 2. Contributions must be made at the Major League level. It's fine if you think Simeon Woods-Richardson will catapult to the top of Keith Law's list, but unless he makes contributions in 2019 as a Met, it doesn't count. Feel free to start your own "Dark Horse Prospect" thread. 3. I'm ok with former top prospects who have fallen from grace. So, if a few years ago, you said Dominic Smith, you would have been disqualified. But with all the 1B options now, and Dom basically an afterthought, he's an ok pick. So is former to prospect Bill Pulsipher, if you're inclined to go that route. So who is your 1986 Dark Horse? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4b/Dark_Horse_Records_logo.jpg> https://memegenerator.net/img/instances/55589844/there-can-be-only-one.jpg>
19. So, we may have to put that one to a vote. Kevin Mitchell would be on that ballot too.
20. One homer more than Cano, one ribbie fewer. And could you imagine if Hechavarria was our offseason "answer" in the infield? Holy moley, we would have marched on Citi Field with pitchforks. I dunno. I mean, there was no question to answer, was there? I mean, the Mets had to improve somewhere, but it's not like short and second represented a glaring hole.
21. That's a silly article. I believe a lot of things about Callaway. I don't think any reasoning person believes he's punting the decision on Alonso's participation to Francessa. I don't think it even is his decision to punt.
22. 23. Chapman is dead on. Heck, the award should be called The Kelvin Chapman Award. Edgy MD wrote: With respect to Bob Ojeda, Dark Horse 1986 has to be Ray Knight. He was a complete load in 1985, and in 1986, he was earning MVP votes. Or am I shortchanging Rick Anderson here?
24. The trademark for "Tommy Two-Face" is still available.
