This Marlin pitcher doesn't really seem to have anything.

Conforto feels that way too.

Maybe Frazier debuts his lefthanded swing today.

So, you'd think, after four days off, you can pitch whoever you want. Why ever would somebody pick Vargas? Why ever would somebody with his back against it pick Vargas?

Find a part-time role for Canó, move McNeil primarily to second. Call up Dilson and get him some reps. If you trade Frazier, there's room in the infield for evabody. Call up Santana, experiment with a six-man rotation, using the starters liberally out of the pen on the day opposite their starts. Trash the six-man rotation when it fails, but delight in the success that it was all a pretext to turn Matz into a reliever. Work out J.D. Davis as a pitcher and as a catcher. Give him a couple of September appearances at both and see if anything took.

Maybe, but I think it's as true to say that Mantle was stunned to find himself transported into the Year of the Pitcher. He was disgusted by his .237 batting average, without putting as much consideration into the new reality that the whole league had become a circuit of banjo hitters. His line of .237 / .385 / .398 // .782 looks pedestrian in most years, Mantle-like only in his walk rate, but his OPS+ was a team-leading 143. Who wouldn't want that from a 36-year-old? Bill Freehan finished second in MVP voting and his number was 145.

A 400-foot out to end it. They looked so directionless, you'd think Mickey was still managing.

Two-run homer by Frazier and hopefully the Mets pulling within four is more relevant than Todd raising his trade profile.

Years later and Cesar Puello still lookin' artificially jacked.

Also, my takeaway from this game is that Pete Alonso participating in the Home Run Derby has really messed up Jeff McNeil's swing.

Phil Regan: "Listen, I'm going to pass on something my coach, the great Satchel Paige, told me." Chris Mazza: "Are you fucking with me?"

And of course, Alonso goes down chasing that high cheese.

Yeah, and it ain't good. Seven to two. Them. Chris Conroy has been punching Mets out on pitches above the nipples all night.

Kemp had been on the Injured List at AAA for over a month before his release. Caminero had been suspended much of the year. Getting thunked by a team with 2016 lefty Mets batters Curtis Granderson and Neil Walker. I wanna see Alejandro De Aza or GtFO.

Gsellman needs to try something new.

Rosario going off-book by making a tough play in the hole. These guys need to be reminded that they're the Marlins.

Long time minor league coach Rick Tomlin, who spent time coaching in both the Mets and Yankees systems, was named as Lynch's replacement. Lynch, 63, stepped down to ‘spend more time with his family,' the team said. “We spoke with Ed after Sunday's game and this was the direction he decided to go in,” Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff told Newsday Tuesday afternoon. “…We were grateful that Ed was part of the staff for the first few months of the season and wish him nothing but the best.” Despite losing nine pitchers to other professional organizations since the beginning of spring training, Lynch's staff led the Atlantic League in strikeouts (459) and ranked second in ERA (3.74). Entering Tuesday night's game against the New Britain Bees, the Ducks held a 1 ½ game lead over the Somerset Patriots in the Liberty Division first-half race with 14 games left. The winner of the first half earns an automatic berth in the postseason. Prior to accepting the Ducks job, Lynch has never been a pitching coach at the professional level. He pitched eight seasons in the big leagues, mostly with the Mets and then the Cubs. He was the Cubs' general manager from 1994-2000, director of player development with the Padres, special assistant to the GM for the Mets and Cubs, and, most recently, a scout for the Blue Jays from 2010-15. Kirk Nieuwenhuis also put in his papers today too. Coincidentally or not, it's the https://risingapple.com/2019/07/12/mets-kirk-nieuwenhuis-home-runs/fourth anniversary of his three-homer game.

That was a brief affair. Eight games.

Hey, men and women, we're a few innings in here. These Marlins blue-on-black tops aren't going to last beyond the season, are they?

Yeah, I think "something different" is some weak leadership from somebody preaching process and evaluation. >>> "Frazier, why don't you jump on over to the lefthanded batter's box?" >>> >>> "But ... I've never batted lefthanded in my life." >>> "Yeah, but we're trying something different. Boss' orders. We've got Lagares playing barefoot and Matzie working on a new pitch we call 'Love in an Elevator.' But they aren't really committing and you're a veteran and we need you to set an example."

They also used him a lot.

I figured from the chair-throwing thing that he would have transitioned from denial to anger by now.
