  1. Without looking up the others, I know Lolich's was the only one of his career. Lolich, by the way, in his much-derided lone season with the Mets, had a 3.22 ERA in 192 2/3 innings. Those numbers would get him at least a taste of Cy Young support today.
  2. I, of course, cannot remember all I have dreamed, but I feel certain that very few of my dreams have ever included Joe Girardi.
  3. Tracky trying to stuff somebody else's scoop is a bold move. You don't want to end up back in your Speedo, Track.
  4. My wife has never rooted for the Mets to win as hard as she is right now rooting for the Nats to lose. I don't know who she likes more right now — Alex Bregman or Fernando Rodney.
  5. Mixed results, but one might call the turnout more successful than not. All four of the Mets pitching for the Scorpions prospered, unfortunately, the hitters did not. But blesseDly, the one hitter that did have an excellent showing is top-prospect Andres Giménez. Nonethless, Twins shorstop/centerfielder Royce Lewis was named MVP. He had a good season too, but his first-overall-draft-pick pedigree added some special sauce to his statsburger. 6. It's 2019, and Fernando Rodney is pitching in the World Series.
  7. There's a lot of folks who have experience the Wilpons, who continue to work for them or return to work for them or associate with them or delight in the big league diversions of their baseball squad.
  8. I don't think Bobby V is up to the 9-10 months it takes to be an MLB manager at this point. I don't either, but the word "bombshell" just makes my mind race through available names. Ichiro Suzuki? Jerry Seinfeld? Barney Rubble? Hey, Bobby's advancing years are part of what would make it land with that sort of megatonnage.
  9. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=25171 time=1572014217 user_id=68] He's one of those silhouetted generic baseball action figures that I include in all of the base set Batman cards. He can be anybody you want him to be. Willie McCovey. Tim Harkness. Ginger Baker. Anybody.
  10. Yup. For what it's also worth, I strongly suspect it was written by a professional publicist. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, of course, but the man has a lot of walking to do. If I lived in another world, I'd suggest the president go on TV and remind people that idle talk about civil insurrection is a terrible mistake, gravely dangerous, and frequently a crime.
  11. Good call on Lou. I think there was even dickering goign on in that deal. Mike Piazza. There's a bomb. Valentine. H. Bomb. Bobby Cox. Nuclear megaton bomb.
  12. Do you think Ventura would qualify as a bombshell? Todd Zeile? A managerial trade for Ron Gardenhire? (Has a manager been acquired through a trade since Pete Rose?) Nobody's actually even speculated about a second tour for Terry. Yikes!
  13. I'm curious about the identity of the distant figure between Buckaroo Batman and Rodeo Robin.
  14. This has stretched out long enough. I thought today would be the day. There's only one more rest day in the World Series.
  15. Great news if you're Pat Dean, though.
  16. I'm strangely really happy for Michael Gibbons.

Steve Henderson! 20. =Methead post_id=25054 time=1571876622 user_id=61] Another reason we need robot umps.
  21. No, I sort of mean that a little less than 100% seriously. And I'm not actually an advocate for his Hall of Fame candidacy.
  22. If only. But that's some special dipshittiness. It's, like, some presidential-level shitdip.
  23. Watched this again this evening. I picked up a couple of things I missed the first time around. 1) When not filled with ass-tearing dark metal music, the soundtrack is covered by crappy canned music that sounds like it came out of the background of an eighties American film. 2) The weekend warriors guarding the border are not only a comedy staple going back to the Keystone Kops, they also seem to be lifted right out of an Ivan Reitman/Second City company film. 3) It's a standing joke that the morbid bassist doubles as the town's librarian, but he really has a librarian's personality, with an encyclopedic memory and an appreciation for a strong backstory. Willets should watch it if only for that.
  24. He mis-spelled "Capitol" too.
  25. Part of me — a big part — wants to fire him just because he can't spell "civil." The other part — well, all of me, actually — wants to fire him because he's threatening political violence and civil insurrection.
