  1. I missed Rocky Jr. How lousy. Big craft beer guy.
  2. He's also the new catching instructor, so he's replaced Tony DeFrancesco twice in a matter of weeks. Gents, here's to falling up!
  3. When you record my representatives, they say stuff like, "Edgy is really confident that this year ... that he'll remember his number." Assholes. Every last one of them.
  4. So, did Beltran end up in the calendar? On the season tickets? In the media guide and yearbooks? Do they have to tear down a bunch of banners in the concourses, causeways, and rotundae of Citi Field and First Data Field? Did they print up a bunch of Beltran-15 shirseys that are being shipped to Malawi as we speak? And before you answer, Fman, this is a riveting topic.
  5. I thought it was a representative of his saying he thinks he can hit his number. And clearly, the production comes from his representatives. I hate my representatives. I don't even think they have an A/V department.
  6. =Fman99 post_id=31159 time=1580992408 user_id=86] He's the hitting coach, obviously. Topics are lean in the dog days of winter.

I assume Vaccaro is playing off of that with the implication that maybe Freddie thinks he'll get better offers while Cohen is betting otherwise. I understand. But it's not poker. Or just ignore me. I'm just sore about the media mythmaking that made the president. And Bernie Madoff. And Michael Milken. And Steve Cohen. I don't get wood for rich swindlers.
  8. [fimg=450]https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTYxMDkwMjM5NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzUxMTgxNw@@._V1_.jpg[/fimg] Ever notice the guy in charge of the pitchers is the pitching coach, but the guy in charge of the hitters can have any one of a number of titles. The teams seem real intentional about which title they choose, too. But if, say, Larry Rothschild was all, "Excuse me, I'm not the pitching coach, I'm the throwing instructor," he'd be laughed out of the game. Similarly, you're not going to hear Ray Searage come at you with "I'm the hurling pedagogue, bitch." But if Kevin Long or Rudy Jamarillo are all, "Fuck you, I'm the hitting instructor," people think "God damn, that's one scientific badass of a professional who takes his business seriously!" And we're supposed think that the distinction between hitting instructor and batting coach somehow matters. It doesn't, right?
  9. A master poker player? I'm more than over the idea that rich New York capital management dudes have special magic negotiating skills. It stinks of the notion of wealth being a moral virtue.
  10. Yup. Great work. And a good winner, despite my anti-Newsday bias. I sometimes have second thoughts about moving the offices from Lefrak City to Stockholm — the expansion of our marketing footprint has been slow-going — but the continued participation of the royal family has made it all worthwhile.
  11. Along with his unanimous election into the Litigious Neighbor Hall of Fame, Olerud's name is real hot right now.
  12. Just give them Austin Jackson and be done with it.
  13. This is a heck of a carousel of a deal for February.
  14. Oh, Dom Smith has trade value. The minor league free agent market has a pile of Adamses. Dom Smith may play the same position and bat from the same side, but their respective rights are still very different commodities.

There are seven years left on the Arenado extension. It's an advantage. It certainly shouldn't be the only consideration. And certainly not in this case.
  16. I didn't write that he didn't have a right to keep his politics to himself. Dishonest distortions of what somebody writes have become a source of toxicity in other areas of life.

  18. When ex-Yankee outfielders Paul O'Neill and Johnny Damon declared themselves in the bag for Trump, Curtis Granderson made a couple of statements about it being good that athletes should be politically active, while refusing to publicly come out for or against anybody himself.
  19. Deserves it's own thread. He sure was what you'd like a baseball citizen to be, though he sure could have gotten off the fence in 2016.

  21. I think the tiebreaker should be to vote on layout and copy of the actual story.
  22. It was the fourth inning that killed them. Two hits and a hit-by-pitch, but they came up empty on a GiDP by Druby and a hacking strikeout by Kelly Johnson. The comeback started right after that.
