Don't get me wrong. Baseball still delights me. I love the personalities. I love the different ways of excelling. I love the different types of athletes. And I love that the whole point is to get home. My attitude toward this lockdown is, though, that the desire to get back to normal or as close as possible to normal is a waste. We can make things a lot better, in virtually ever sector of society, every sector of the economy, and I think baseball should put their efforts into making things better rather than having a farcical version of the same old.

It seems that, whether a fragment of this season happens or whether the season is missed entirely, an outside arbitrator is going to have to be brought in.

Nobody have a summary or a screen shot?

You guys act like there are no more Russian oligarchs to prop this team up.

An almost unrecognizably baby-faced George Carlin in 1965, a guest of Merv Griffin, introducing his character of Lyle O. Higley, John Birch Society chapter head, as "A veteran of two wars, a depression, and a Mets double-header." Reference comes around the 2:20 mark.

I wonder if Chandler Avant was a guard on the basketball court.

It seems a lot of the releasees were vets in on a one-year deal. Your Taijerons and your Terdasloviches and even the occasional Sebastian Elizalde. Also a bunch of guys who are doing decently but are a couple years behind their age contingent. Saddest to see go are guys who only recently fought their way back from the indy minors and probably thought their careers were back on track. And of course, nobody wants to see Phil Capra go, taking the best face in the minor leagues with him. I've long advocated for Seaver to have won the 1981 award, and that Valenzuela's victory was as much a product of novelty as observation, but the truth is that four guys could have won it that year, and if you took their names off of their stat lines, I might vote differently every time. Short seasons create tight races.

We're looking at a split thread here, but here's a fun fact: By the time Jacob deGrom started his rookie year, Bob Feller had: pitched in six seasons, adding up to about 5 1/4 seasons worth of service time, made four All-Star teams, finished in the top five in MVP balloting three times (there was no Cy Young), and served in the armed forces for three seasons.

I haven't screwed any minor leaguers at all this season. Stupid coronavirus is interfering with my whole lifestyle.

=nymr83 post_id=37801 time=1591119825 user_id=54] I don't agree. NOT playing games is the worst possible outcome for everyone involved - fans, players, owners, non-player employees, broadcast partners, everyone.

I'm surprised to say this, but I'm ready to let go of the season. We have 1968, 1929, and 1918 out there already. We might as well toss 1994 in the pile. I want baseball back, but not as some sort of farcical quest to return to normal — #americastrong hashtag bullshit. All this horror is a byproduct of normal. MLB should taking this time to put less energy into returning to the status quo and more into reforming itself.

New York State Supreme Court Judge throws out Dykstra's lawsuit and https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29251243/lenny-dykstra-cited-suit-vs-former-mets-teammate-ron-darling-dismissed?fbclid=IwAR1usac0CM870tf_N7hc-tqvA8YluUdCS5odIAkBBiKYwslL1jAnQdwFBDMthrows it out hard.

If you can some up my disappointment with this project as: No coverage of the dark side of Laurel Canyon, Absolutely no Joni Mitchell, Arbitrary cutoff date, Too pinned to Jakob Dylan's vanity project, then, well, there's a https://variety.com/2020/music/news/laurel-canyon-tv-review-epix-joni-mitchell-jackson-browne-1234621109/new documentary by Alison Ellwood (who made the terrific History of the Eagles) that reportedly seems to acknowledge and attempt to correct all those shortcomings. Exciting. It's like some producer said, "Edgy was disappointed, so let's see if we can do better here."

Hey! Spoiler alert!

Yeah, why would the Mets pay SNY?

This may not get anywhere.

I'm not sure what pissed me off most about the Wilpons — when they bled me dry with a romance scam or when they sent me that e-mail from Nigeria telling me that somebody with the same last name as me died and they wanted to wire me the money he left behind.

Anyhow, the real bonus material there to me was Torre saying that (a) Bob Gibson advocated for his trade from the Braves, and ( his notion that Gibson (it's hard to say how much he was kidding) knew nothing about baseball except how to pitch. Also cool to hear that Torre always let a player take over as manager for the final game of the season. I don't know how I didn't know that.

Did Howie glue that beard on?

I think they did better than most teams. Stupid? Sure, but at least they went their own way with it. That's a pretty rare thing.

I have to say, I'd gladly go for 60 straight hours of Bruce Boisclair programming. Jim Bethke? Victor Diaz? Bring it on!

That's not really what a ponzi scheme is.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: Has anyone explained why the Mets operate at "a major loss"? It's not still the Madoff thing. And it's not the Bobby Bonilla thing. They carry a lot of debt that they continually have to service. And even apart from the Madoff disaster, it's still quite easy to bank on revenue that doesn't materialize. Like any revenue from 2020, for instance.

Edgy MD wrote: Eddie Lynch went to South Carolina on a basketball scholarship, but the only statistical evidence I'm finding suggests he played all of one minute. By the way, Lynchie has been real active in various Mets Facebook pages. If anybody wants to recruit him to stop by for a chat, you'd have my thanks.
