Is Deron Ribant from the line of Dennis Ribant?

My labrum knowledge is limited.

While everybody is watching vote counts in Pennsylvania, the Red Sox have pulled a fast one and are https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/11/06/sports/red-sox-alex-cora-manager/rehiring Alex Cora!

Also joining the Mets on yesterday's pile of minor league deals was husky longtime Braves reliever Arodys Vizcaíno. Viz-a-viz was had season-ending labrum surgery after four appearances (he's also a Tommy John veteran) in 2019 and was subsequently dealt to Seattle in May (for Anthony Swarzak, as a matter of fact). I'm not sure how that worked, but it's true. He never appeared for the Mariners and the Mets bring him back to the National League where he belongs. Hopefully, he's shed that gut a little. When he was working and healthy, his slider was one of the best pitches in the division, as it didn't really behave a slider, but something like a hard curve, and something like a splitter, looking delectably hittable before a sudden 12-6 drop. It works against lefties and righties, and when folks start looking for it, he zips an easy fastball right by them. Strange that Van Wangenen, if he is indeed on the outs, is allowing himself to be left twisting in the wind, when he could just resign, wish the new ownership good luck, and keep his brand relatively undamaged.

Well, the Mets traded two guys for Marizzy. But I like the strategy of always having a ballhawk in reserve for when things go south or you just want late-inning defense. Among Marisnick, Hamilton, and Juan Lagares, there was usually someone who could go get it in the outfield last year. It would be nice to get Springer and have that guy be a starter, but things don't work out or they break down, this is a good type to have around.

Diaz was usless? Castro? Familia?

Are you really that committed to the idea that Stroman and Matz are comparable?

Ten seconds after I updated our roster thread with all the minor-league Mets that were becoming minor league free agents, the Mets dropped an announcement that a bunch of them had been re-signed and invited to the Met theoretical 2020 Spring Training camp. It seems a little early for those sorts of invites, but hey, good news. Some new arrivals are among the announced signings too, including former Brave speedburner, the virilely named Mallex Smith. Smith led the AL in steals with Seattle in 2019, but appeared only briefly and mostly ineffectively in 2020, after spending the COVID break living in a tent in his parents back yard. https://external-preview.redd.it/sEgynOFrr4YTVA_DSShFU8g_ODNMOs6vfXxXyUzLx00.gif?format=png8&s=2d2998d8f6863c62358d5a676881635ba8c3879d>

As reported in the https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-proposes-converting-new-york-penn-league-to-summer-wood-bat-circuit/Baseball America, MLB is thinking about sending the New York-Penn League the way of the Appy League, and converting the circuit to a college summer wood bat league. I'm not sure why there's supposed to be some kind of demand on this sort of thing. Last I checked, there something like 14 such leagues in operation. There are various levels of play, and various qualities of players invited to those levels, but it's pretty much The Cape Cod League and everybody else. Apparently, MLB owns the league, and so can do what they want, but what we need is more independent pro ball. My title is supposed to be a suggestion that collegians will soon be playing summer ball in Brooklyn, but I'm guessing the Mets and the Yankees will transfer their New York-Penn League affiliates to The Eastern League to become AA clubs.

Stroman is probably the best available free agent starter who isn't a deplorable fascist.

forgive me for my ignorance on the scorecard...but, is that a scorecard that someone actually did during a game, or a recreation? I realize that I write like a 5 year old using a crayon for the first time; but holy cow that is great penmanship if it was done live at a game while trying to watch and consume hot dogs, refreshments, etc... http://leaptoad.com/mets/The Ultimate Mets Database generates scorecards from every game in Mets history, in your choice from over a dozen fonts. Thrill to the UMDB watermark, a symbol of quality known the world over. http://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=1&font=12>

Rick's top game was the last one of 1977. The Mets tore ass out of the gate and held a 6-0 lead through most of the game, as Lee Mazzilli, Leo Foster, and Bruce Bosclair opened with three consecutive doubles. Pat Zachry cruised along before faltering in the eighth. So goofy were the over-confident Mets that Mazzilli and Torre conspired to lift Maz mid-game to ensure a .250 batting average on the season for Lee. FUN TIMES!! After three runs crossed, Paul Siebert came on for the final out, but Siebert faltered as well in the ninth, giving up another run before leaving with the tying runs on and one out. Torre called on Bald Mountain, and he got pinch-hitters Mike Potter on a lineout and Roger Freed on a bouncer to short. Steve Henderson capped a very good rookie season when he caught up with Potter's liner, and inadvertently ended Potter's baseball days. The at-bat was the last of Potter's 0-23 career. http://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=2607&font=1>

LFGM took some work, and the end result of the headline still successfully titled the story.

Late night with election results and a highball glass full of strychnine is a great time to catch up at Mets Roster Central, transactions alluded to but not fully presented. He's a good defender with a good power for his position but a low batting average, which I guess makes him very much a man of our time, on the offensive side. He has the strikeout rates to prove it. Conversely, Cordell slipping away wouldn't be too big a deal — there are dozens of Cordell's out there — except for the Mets' relative thin-ness in the outfield. Dozens may be out there, but not a lot are in here, currently, and if RC Cola slips of the roster, that's one more notch up the depth chart for Tim Tebow. But the starkness of casting off the team's top two catchers in one day underscores the offseason priority of that position. The Mets #1 catcher right now is Tomás Nido, who spent most of last season injured, and who, after parts of four big league seasons, can trace 90% of his offensive output to one day. And that's a day his apparent backup, Patrick Mazeika, or possibly Ali Sanchez, can only dream of. That being the case, they will probably remain on the roster past the Rule V Draft, but they are out of options and will likely hit the waiver wire again if they can't make the team in the spring. Even before further offseason finagling, the Mets have no apparent space for Barnes, and Tropeano, though he seemingly fulfills http://thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29812Seawolf's long-held desire to stock the Mets' roster with Stony Brook alums (which is a little anachronistic, now that he's a Golden Eagle), the reality is that Tropeano takes the spot of fellow Wolfie Daniel Zamora, and that's a logjam which is further complicated by the consideration that no Zamora would leave the 2021 Mets without a second bullpen lefty (which their 2020 counterparts usually lacked also). It generally includes two types of dudes — firstly are young folks who've played out the six-or-so years of their initial pro contract without making it onto the 40-man roster. Secondly are veterans brought in on one year deals. Looking at the array above, you probably have a good idea which is which. The strange part this year is how truly ephemeral and/or theoretical the Metliness of the guys in the second category are this year, with their single season in the organization not being a season at all, and the Bruce Maxwells and Max Moroffs never escaping the COVID Limbo of Alternative Training Site Roster status, never suiting up and breaking a sweat in an actual game with recorded stats and umps and stuff for the Mets organization. The stinky part is that, while most of these guys may still speak with their agents once or twice this offseason, something like half of them have played their last affiliated game. While that's true every offseason, with all minor leaguers having sat out 2020, who is to say that the right 50% will be re-signed this offseason, and the right 50% will be forced to hang 'em up. The minor league contract race is going to be a real clusterfuck, and we still don't quite know how many roster spots the teams will need to fill, with reports coming out that the New York-Penn League may be getting out of the minor league business and re-imagining themselves as a Summer collegiate amateur wood bat circuit. (Note to the NY-Penn League: We have enough of those. Pay your players a salary or go home.) One more thing worth noting about this bunch — look at all those upper-level outfielders! We should shortly find out if the Mets have slipped Ryan Cordell through waivers. Until we do, all this outfield attrition has bumped Tim Tebow up to seventh on the Mets organizational outfield depth chart. SEVENTH! Lacking a recent track record to proffer as his free agency résumé, that one-year pile of money may end up looking pretty sweet to Marcus in the weeks to come, and the Mets tendering it may be the first-ever indication of the long-hoped for profligacy from a Cohen ownership.

Nice to see Rusty Staub on a 2020 card.

PORT ST. LUIS is some beautiful composition. You know it's true and you should alter your votes accordingly.

Welcome to the world, Glider Haji Wright!

And if I did, I wouldn't keep it.

Fun LIJ Fact: Despite the Lake Success address, children born at Long Island Jewish Medical Center are typically born at Katz Women's Hospital, which lies on the sprawling campus just across the Queens border. So mothers may arrive at a Nassau County hospital center, but their kids get a New York City birth certificate.

Well, it was relevant to the strain of the conversation, so I found no problem with repeating it. Also, Torre and Staub. That's different. More importantly, as the world's biggest Doug Flynn fan, it's stunning to see Torre endorsing Tavaras and Flynn as "the future" as late as 1980. Morgan would go on to lead the league in walks that year (Mazzilli was seventh), while Tavaras and Flynn helped Torre achieve the dubious distinction of skippering a club that would produce exactly zero home runs at three different offensive positions — second base, shortstop, and catcher. (No Mets pitchers homered either.) Torre was a filthy glove-lover and he wasn't ashamed of it. He also moved Todd Zeile out of the catcher position, reducing the stature of his offensive profile.

=batmagadanleadoff post_id=49471 time=1604205850 user_id=68]How come you don't remember this? Maz was an every-day player and while Torre was managing, was the team's most featured player.
