  1. Tommy Pham: Signs with a new team, tests postive for COVID, has a disastrous first year, gets knocked out in three games by the Dodgers, and then gets https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30102832/padres-tommy-pham-good-condition-stabbing-san-diegostabbed in the back. Hello, 2020.
  2. Yeah, I was wondering if those eliptical borders had a precedent from an established Pepsi design I'm not familiar with.
  3. Man, I loved his career, but I never really considered that he could have won five straight MVPs.
  4. Holy shit! Coke steals the Pepsi Porch from Pepsi, and Pepsi strikes right the fuck back!
  5. I hear you, Wally.
  6. Morgan is the best second baseman in my book. I wouldn't place Jeff Kent in the picture. I'd put him about 20th. Heck, I'd put Chase Utley ahead of him. I can think of three other secondbasemen, just among those who played for the Mets, who I'd put ahead of him.

  8. As Elvis Costello said to Paul McCartney, however, you were correct to pick my Brave face. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/10/screen-shot-2020-10-10-at-5.21.11-pm.png>

Mike Schmidt I gave Lunch the benefit of the doubt that he was looking at window #2, and so I'll give you the same grace that you were referring Schmidty in Window #9. Yes, of course. You get the five points that were sitting on the tee, rocketing you into fifth. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Trot Nixon is the Bosock ( the white one) I always mix up Trot Nixon with Troy O'Leary, and there they are in one array, and you get three more points, leapfrogging into second place. #3 is Yankee shit-ass Tom Tresh. That's five shit-ass points for you, leaving you in fourth shit-ass place! Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I'm gonna risk it all, Alex, and say that's Mike Remlinger in the Braves cap Good guess, but that is not Remi. And the second place standing that was yours alone is now yours to share! 10. Nice work.
  11. Here's a good one. Twelve faces. Three Mets. Feel free to name non-Mets for higher scores, but the round ends when our three Mets are in the bag. ONE guess per post. NO consecuguessing. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/10/screen-shot-2020-10-10-at-5.21.11-pm.png>

  13. Among Seaver, Gibson, and Ford, that's the winning pitcher in 798 games that has died since August 31. In fact, add in Ron Perranoski and others, I think it comes to 883 winners. It's also 31 All-Star Games.
  14. Hey, Lasorda played. I mean, he Lasorda played.
  15. The Mets tied for the league lead in attendance — their first time since 2008 and only their second time since 1988. On the other hand, they also tied for last in the league in attendance, so ... .
  16. My big takeaway is "Norman, like Henderson, is black." Thanks for that scoop, Jack Lang.

  19. Maybe not, but just being right is AWESOME.
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: I certainly think they should consider it and try it in ST ... let's just not talk ourselves into believing that making it work is simply a matter of deciding it will. As far as we know, he's never played any position but SS. Three innings of left field in the majors, and sixty innings of third base in the minors.
  21. One other biproduct of a lot of lefties is that it makes moving folks around a summat harder. I mostly credit the way Rojas moved folks around, but it was kind of weird the way people didn't rotate in and out of the DH spot, but got stuck there for a stretch before being sprung back into the defense. One week, Canó was the DH. The next week it was Davis, and then it was Alfonso. And man, it was torture watching Alonso beat himself up at the plate and then beat himself up in the dugout for two innings.
  22. Springie would certainly look to help the righthanded batsmithing, but I'm not sure how much centerfield he still has in him. Rosario looks to have the skills for center, but would have to hit his way back into the lineup. Unspoken in both scenarios is that Nimmo, though seemingly not hopeless in center, was consistently bad there in 2020.
  23. Having missed time due to the utter absence of minor league baseball in the US in 2020, #2 Mets prospect Francisco Alvarez will try and make some of that up in Australia this winter, having signed to play for the ABL's Sydney Blue Sox. A more surprising signing with the Blue Sox this offseason has been 48-year-old 12-time MLB All-Star Manny Ramirez.
  24. Matzie was one of five pitchers with an ERA over 9.00. A sixth had an ERA over 8.00. A seventh had an ERA over 7.00. None of them was Todd Frazier. It wouldn't shock me if the guy spent the off-season polishing his knuckler for a more pitching appearances.
  25. Here's something for the "Did you know?" files: Did you know that the top seven batters on the Mets, in terms of fWAR, were all lefthanded batters? I suspect you knew something like that was true-ish, but you probably didn't know that the lefthanded rule went all the way down to the #7 guy — Luis Guillorme. But perhaps you did. I've always known you were particularly inquisitive, so who am I to say? Did you know that Luis Guillorme out fWAR-ed J.D. Davis and Pete Alonso? Well, you might well have known it by the time you got to this paragraph, because the previous paragraph implied it pretty clearly. But it's still pretty stark to read it like that. You saw Davis' and Alonso's seasons, and as frustrating as they were, you know they each played almost every day, and they each got some licks in here and there. But fWAR doesn't give a shit. fWAR isn't the last word on anything, but clearly they value Guillorme's premium defense as well as his surprisingly hot bat. Did you know that the division between lefties and righties on the team is near perfect? EVERY LEFTY hitter contributed more than EVERY RIGHTY hitter. So sez fWAR, anyhow. The only thing futzing up the perfect distinction between the two camps is the presence of Billy Hamilton, belonging to both camps, and the theoretical presence of Jed Lowrie, a theoretical switch hitter as well. Though who really knows with Jed Lowrie? Here's one: Did you know that fully 1/3 (33.3%) of all fWAR earned by Mets righthanded hitters were earned by Tomás Nido in his brief seven-game season. Tomás' 0.3 fWAR isn't one third of the positive 1.9 fWAR earned by righty hitters, but it is after the -1.0 fWAR of the real sluggards is included. You know who you are, guys! All of this adds up to the simply amazing distinction that the Mets had one of their best hitting teams ever if you only looked at the lefties, and one of their worst if you only looked at the righties. You'd probably have agreed that the Mets were stronger from the left side going into this season, but it's unlikely that you looked at Alonso, Davis, Céspedes, Ramos, Rosario, etc. before the season and said that the dextral Mets were going to be a Titanic-level disaster. It's unlikely that you'd believe it if someone told you that the Mets would reacquire Todd Frazier at the deadline, and that he'd mostly kind of stink, but he'd still outplay some other options that were floating around. Maybe it was something to do with the angle at which the iPad was held when feeding video of batting sessions to Chili Davis. I can't really say, but between injuries and regressions, it was remarkable. Only good news is the off-chance that Nido's performance is a good indicator, despite everything we know about sample size.
