  1. Last time I visited Bay Shore, my car's power disappeared.
  2. I would have guessed that he'd retired five years ago. Surprised to find that he was a 2020 big-leaguer. A perfect pitching record through four batters across two appearances.
  3. If there were people in the stands, we could dedicate a section as "Smithtown."
  4. Dom Smith meets the media. Facebook WWW.FACEBOOK.COM
  5. HOLY SHIT!
  6. I mean, I didn't disown 'Murica the last four years.
  7. If Bauer signed with the Mets, it wouldn't have been because of anything I said or did. What would you do if Bauer signed with the Mets? Would you boycott the Mets? Not follow them? Root for the O's, instead? Leave this forum? Burn your Mets baseball cards? I wouldn't vote Bauer for President. (Unless he was the Democratic candidate). I'd probably take the good with the bad, and publicly advocate against his douchiness, as I did with Harvey. I've invested more in this team than he has. Fuck him. I'm under no illusion that the Mets haven't seen a parade of miscreants pass through, some even staying a while. But as long as he's not a Met, I'm advocating that he not be one. I hope that's consistent enough.
  8. Indulging douchebags and treating their bullshit as merely colorful or something that peps things up is what gave us the fucking madman. At a deeper level, it also gives us Derek Chauvin. I'm not sure how an organization can justify setting digital miscreants in the front office afloat while giving Bauer the biggest paycheck in baseball history. He's encouraged people to kill themselves, while siccing social media bullies on them. I'll enjoy my team opposing him a LOT more than watching my team rely on him. Let us reward public douchebags with the public marginalization they deserve.
  9. To be fare, Alonso has a lot of crotch.
  10. That would be incredible. I don't particularly think it's going to work, and at this stage in camp, he may just be hanging out there, but I'm all for experiments in versatility. I computer managed a version of the 1969 Mets and gave Clendenon a half a dozen starts over there. I think all righthanded firstbasemen should be looked at as potential fake thirdbasemen as well.
  11. Transactions, 2/23/2021 [td90]Direction[/td90][td90]GOING[/td90] [td90]Transaction[/td90][td90][PTEXT=7]Claimed off Waivers by ATL[/PTEXT][/td90] [th]Position Group[/th][th]=#FFC2C2] Outfielder[/th][td90][/td90][td60][fimg=90]https://securea.mlb.com/mlb/images/players/head_shot/628338.jpg[/fIMG][/td60][td90]Name[/td90][td60]Guillermo Heredia [fimg=50]http://thecranepool.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/cuba-flag.jpg[/fimg][/td60][td90]DoB[/td90][td60][PTEXT=8]1/31/91[/PTEXT][/td60][td90]B/T[/td90][td60][PTEXT=8]R/L[/PTEXT][/td60][td90]High Level[/td90][td90]MLB[/td90] No other changes to the roster save for the DFA disappearance. The Braves haven't announced a corresponding move, but I'm all for claiming whoever they expose, just to throw down. The Mets continue to get less Cuban, but way down in the lower minors, they have catcher Ariel Yera and outfielder Gerson Molina representing The Pearl of the Antilles
  12. As far as reserve outfielders on the bubble getting a fill-in opportunity go, he gave the Mets the best seven of the best games of his career, as opposed to, say, Fred Lewis or Emil Brown. Took 15 off the back of Juan Lagares and kept it off the back of Tim Tebow, seemingly presaging the end of both tenures.
  13. Hey, maybe Chuey is Fernando Martinez.
  14. Al Oliver, who would also transition to be primarily a firstbaseman in his thirties, started in center, but by the time the ninth had rolled around, Dave Augustine had entered the game as a pinch runner for firstbaseman Bob Robertson, with Oliver moving to his future home of first base. I can't speak to whether Augustine was any good, as he only appeared in 29 games over two seasons, but he did show off his cop-on-the-edge facial hair standing in whatever the Bradenton version of The Sadecki Spot is on the Topps '74 Rookie Outfielders card. https://vintagecardprices.com/pics/1869/1_150893.jpg>
  15. If you check the link, the biggest championship-improving play was in the same game as the BotW play, but it was Duffy Dyer's game-tying double in the ninth.
  16. Yeah, I noticed that route toward Dyer's hit too. I don't know that Stargell ought to have caught that, but he was playing deep. Omar Moreno would have gotten there with time to camp under it 19 times out of 20.
  17. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=56821 time=1614183309 user_id=68] How about the ball off the wall play?
  18. Oh, regular season ... uh ... the Ball off the Wall?
  19. By "biggest play ever," I'm guessing you mean in the positive sense. I'm going to go with, um, Mitchell scoring on the wild pitch.
  20. I measure the arrival of baseball from the point of the first douchey Trevor Bauer tweet.
  21. Yeah, that's why I thought I missed something in there.
  22. This thread keeps putting me in mind of this 40+-year-old memory. [YOUTUBE]C6XF4RxU7xQ[/YOUTUBE]
  23. Yeah, as a, perhaps, monthly Twitter visitor — with all the Twitter sophistication that might imply — I imagine I didn't grab all of the relevant exchanges there, so if anyone has any more to display, please go at it. Garry Sheffield's in that thread, too. Weird. Hopefully Jae Weong Seo jumps in and sets everybody straight.
  24. I cannot say for certain what "sub-tweeting means."
  25. In Kashmir, duh! [YOUTUBE]PD-MdiUm1_Y[/YOUTUBE]
