  1. Nick isn't so much a signing as a re-signing. He has been in the Mets ogainziation his whole (brief) career, before getting the kick on April 1. Mets hung on to his number, though.
  2. With Brimley on the mound, the ump is all, "OK, I'm free to stink and I'm going to take advantage of it."
  3. Wilford Brimley, leaning into his experience as the manager from The Natural, takes the mound.
  4. Ewing twice with a 3-1 count, twice gets a sweet inside fastball, and twice spits on it, saying "Fuck it, Imma make him throw two strikes."
  5. Soto has done a lot of running and I'd get Taylor in for him at this point.
  6. Wait 'til the Mets start slipping you some Tong.
  7. Say what you want, Gary. I remember Johneshwy and Kahlil in the same game. The Mets had a cascade of injuries to their hitters — particularly their outfielders — and were so desperate that they had James McCann at first and Tomas Nido at catcher in order to improve their offense, and they were batting those two guys third and fourth. They eventually added a previously obscure outfielder named Billy McSkinney — who became the Mets' bets hitter for a few weeks until guys started returning from injuries.
  8. How often do you see a triple through the hole?
  9. Hopefully Ewing gets to bat against the lefty if he comes up here.
  10. I was kind of feeling like sending Ewing on that hit to McKinstry.
  11. A lot of strikeouts looking by tonight's Mets lineup.
  12. It's a shame that was likely Peralta's last inning, because it was clearly his best.
  13. I thought Keef got under the tag and was safe at home.
  14. I'll take that walk and double anyhow. Also, wearing down the starter and chasing him early in Game #1 of a series is, like, the third commandment of Edgyball.
  15. Warning-track fly from Ewing in plate appearance #2. Not a good omen.
  16. Ewing with the best Mets at-bat I've seen in months.
