  1. I was going to ask the same question. Pillar has hit this guy hard. He'll find some grass. Also, Snelly is losing the plate. He may come out with the NH intact.
  2. We could use some Nimmo on-basing in this game.
  3. Joey Lucchesi's leash: [FIMG=400]https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51hg6m53rJL.__AC_SX300_SY300_QL70_FMwebp_.jpg[/FIMG]
  4. No, a single 21st Century pitcher came to the plate 100 times in a single season.
  5. Yeah. Terrific defensive move by Lucheezy.
  6. It'd be nice if Villar was available, or there were than four guys available on the bench, because Snell is looking like really tough matchup for lefties.
  7. I just looked up Ronnie's minor league career. According to the bb-r, his first minor league stop was Tulsa, not Shreveport.
  8. Lucchesi's swing isn't half bad. It's got decent form if you put aside that he's swinging a foot below the fastball and two beats late.
  9. And interleague play creating two or three starts per season where a pitcher doesn't come to the plate. Anybody want to guess the last pitcher in baseball to clear 100 plate appearances in a season, and what season that was?
  10. I'm not recommending it, only sharing information. Nothing I've written in any way — and I'm certain no marketing claim the film's producers would make — would suggest that it is trying to "teach" you the "history of India."
  11. For what it's worth, here's deGrom 2021 alongside the top RBI/ER seasons of Walter Johnson and Bob Gibson (two of the best pitchers ever who were also very good hitters) as well as Don Drysdale and Carlos Zambrano (two of the best hitting pitchers ever who were also All-Star pitchers). [th]Pitcher[/th][th]Season[/th][th]PA[/th][th]RBI[/th][th]IP[/th][th]ER[/th][th]RBI/ER Ratio[/th]deGrom202120351.0040.75=#FF0000]Johnson191816718326.00460.39=#FF0000]Johnson191215820369.00570.35=#FF0000]Johnson191314414346.00440.32=#FF0000]Johnson191516117336.67580.29=#FF0000]Johnson192510720229.00780.26=#BF0000]Gibson196310020254.67960.21=#BF0000]Drysdale196513819308.33950.20=#BF0000]Gibson196511919299.001020.19=#BF0000]Gibson197012419294.001020.19=#000080]Zambrano20088514188.67820.17=#BF0000]Gibson19681106304.67380.16=#000080]Zambrano197210612278.00760.16=#000080]Zambrano20097211169.33710.15=#BF0000]Drysdale196212614314.33990.14=#000080]Zambrano20068011214.00810.14=#BF0000]Drysdale19587212211.67980.12=#BF0000]Drysdale19619512244.001000.12=#BF0000]Drysdale195910412270.671040.12=#000080]Zambrano2003806214.00740.08 So, putting aside that I just selected a handful of guys based on rep, and the table is miles from conclusive, your takeaway might be that, historically, by this measure, no one sniffs Walter Johnson. And so far, no Walter Johnson season sniffs Jacob deGrom.
  12. I want to measure him against history with regards to his ration of runs allowed to RBI, but it's hard to find a site that''ll allow you do a database query producing pitching stats side-by-side with hitting stats for all qualifying pitchers in history, season by season. Also, the 19th century had a lot more hybrid Ohtani types who were pitchers and everyday players at the same time.
  13. This film was a massive international hit based in part on India's surprising win in the 2002 women's field hockey tournament at the Commonwealth Games. What makes it interesting is also kind of what makes it uneven — the lead actor seems to have been told that he's in a samurai film. He arcs through his fall from grace and his redemption with a Zen impassiveness — breaking down his team where they need breaking and building them up where they need building, and slowly molding them into a winning unit that sacrifices for one another, like a weary, code-loyal samurai training a Japanese town to defend themselves from bandits. This detachment has its entertaining side, but is more than a little annoying, as it makes the film longer than it probably should be and it drains some of the life out of the real burning themes touched on — intra-Indian bigotry, Caste system mindsets, the country's rape culture and the denigrating attitudes that feed it, male privilege, the India-Pakistan partition, yada-yada. The most satisfying scene occurs when the young women rumble with a bunch of pushy men at a food court, but it feels more gratifying than it should, because the pace had been so slow to that point. Events pick up when the team travels to Australia for the international championships, and even though a cornucopia of sports movie cliches spills out from there, it's a somewhat tastier salad when they get tossed together with a choice selection of samurai movie chiches.
  14. Well, Alou keeping his powder dry instead of pinch-hitting for Walker early may have been the right call after all, even though he only had one more inning to get out of Walker. And credit to Taijuan for hanging in there as long as he did when his location was all over the place. The potg was Alonso's pinch-hit GiDP.
  15. Is it not a good play to pinch-run Stroman for Neato?
  16. I'm guessing nobody likes Mark Menancon. Everybody wants to trade for him but lets him walk after the season.
  17. Williams, Peraza, and Blankenhorn in the ninth.
  18. Wow, McKinney just misses a homer, and just misses turning it into an inside-the-parker. All credit to him for tearing ass.
  19. McKinney has the third base line wide open.
  20. As hot as he is, McCann still seems staggered by the slider away.
  21. Not sure what is more surprising: that Craig Stammen is still in the league or that the Mets couldn't get to him.
  22. New rule: If a game starts at 10:30 EST, Yu Darvish can't be allowed to start.
