  1. Other dark horse Mets that are still out there: José Martinez! Luis Guillorme! Hunter! Fargas! Betances! Almora! Junior! ... . I'm pretty sure we're getting Jed Lowrie back soon also!
  2. I don't know about youse, but a split on the road on the West Coast against the National League's best team, still without a lot of the first string, has got to be encouraging, right? They threw their top pitchers at the Mets. Those pitchers were generally on. They probably have the best position player in the league. They are the top defensive team in the league and it showed. The Mets pulled a couple of high-profile boners and overcame them. They stayed in games where the starting pitcher was flattening them. They got contributions top to bottom. I feel like we're living on borrowed time because (1) deGrom can't be unsolveable forever, and (2) someone in the NL East is going to get their game together and make a run. But ... encouraging, right?
  3. Trevor May has been just terrible. It's "may have", not 'may has." I don't know about everybody else, but I think Roger is going to work out here.
  4. Anybody coming into town for the O's series, ring me up.

  6. Gentlemen, here's to bunting for a single ahead of the pitcher.

  8. You pump your arm to throw, change your mind and try to hang on to it, but the ball has other ideas and slips through your fingers. It's very common in polar bear populations.
  9. The boxscore is showing that as an earned run.
  10. Here's to Stroman getting stupid.
  11. "Mex, you're my ticket out of here." — Dave Kingman, greeting Keith Hernandez in the Mets' clubhouse
  12. http://www.wingclips.com/system/movie-clips/field-of-dreams/people-will-come/images/field-of-dreams-movie-clip-screenshot-people-will-come_large.jpg> "Brandy Drury reminds us of all that was good ... and could be again."
  13. And Drury steps up with the 5-5-3! Had there been one out, the team might have had a shot an around-the-horn triple play.
  14. Get in this thread. Stroman is grinding and needs your help.
  15. He's totally out. What a Reyesque play by Tatis.
  16. Sweet Smittiboom! Profar looks delightfully inexperienced in centerfield.
  17. With Tingler's exit, Skip Shumacher becomes the most tatted up manager in personal memory.
  18. Mets lose the first replay challenge on a play where the evidence was probably on their side, but not clear and convincing. We need to get back to baseball with two camera crews.
  19. Nobody posting here! San Diego manager Tingler just got called for arguing checked swings. He seemed to keep his head so I was guessing he said one of the nasty words. And just as I'm thinking that, a four-year old is walking behind home plate with cotton candy and her mother covering the girl's ears.
  20. Allen was a good athlete with a tight little motion, and Herzog considered him and Stearns the toughest battery to run on, and putting together the runningest offense anyone had seen in decades, had perhaps an outsized opinion of Neil. It seems uncharacteristically shortsighted for Herzog, but that's the kind of mistake you might make when you're trying to run a player out of town. It also speaks to what can happen when a manager runs the organization and the GM is just a figurehead. His heart got ahead of his head. Hernandez, to his credit, despite being famously loose-lipped, never really comes close to running Herzog down in the booth, despite being in a good position to do so. And I imagine that's because he knows his side of the truth, and that's that he developed a drug problem and it cost him his job. A pretty good job at that. Cocaine can cloud your judgment, but fear of it can do that as well. Herzog was trying to protect the rest of his team, committed to acting fast, and sold his player short. It blew up on him, but even a long, Hall of Fame career characterized by forward thinking and sound judgment is going to include a couple of gaffes along the way. Good for the Mets for being on the right side of history when he did. Maybe someday Frank Cashen gets in the Hall of Fame as well.
  21. Dontrelle Willis came to the plate 101 times in 2005.
  22. I believe the New York tabloid back page editors all identify themselves as such on social media. Would anybody like to take initiative and reach out to them and encourage them to promote the TCB this year. Heck, letting them know about it mid-season might encourage them to up their games.
  23. [bLOCKQUOTE]Individual players on other teams took similar actions. Houston Astros infielders Rusty Staub and Bob Aspromonte refused to play in their home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on the day after RFK's funeral, which President Lyndon B. Johnson had declared a national day of mourning.[/bLOCKQUOTE] The two future Mets both incurred penalties, reported to be a day's wages.
