  1. The official position is that Adam Wainwright lacked Hill's "seasoning." The Mets seem to like dealing with the Rays these days.
  2. On the one hand, I liked him. I liked him even before he showed himself to be a 34-year-old manchild. On the other hand, his name is so generic, there's a good chance he'll be the first guy from this team I forget.
  3. It's hard to memorialize a guy who never recorded an out. It's saying something when Albert Almora has outpitched you. The bullpen will likely need another lefty before it's all over, but I guess it was never going to be him.
  4. I didn't think Tommy Hunter was eligible to be traded. I didn't really trust Matt Dyer once I was unable to establish any relationship to Duffy.
  5. I think I'll have to chew on this one before I have anything meaningful to offer. If you cover the "Guar" with your left thumb, it looks exactly like an Indians chestplate logo (minus the smiling shmoe), and I guess maintaining that sort of continuity was a big part of what was asked of the rebranders, but it kind of makes it feel like a halfhearted half-measure to me, like my wife keeping pictures of her ex around. I think we as a nation are leaning on the authority of Tom Hanks wuh-HAY too much. Hanks is from the San Francisco Bay area, but you know who's from Cleveland? Jim Fuckin' Lovell, the astronaut he played, is. Not identifiable enough? How about Emmy-winner Drew Carey? How about Oscar-winner Halle Berry? How about Grammy-winner Tracy Chapman? Nobody hates Tracy Chapman. But the program needs a white male-io because they need to reassure the blanco base that, hey, just because we acknowledged the dignity of a minority group doesn't mean we're hating on you guys. What voice says, "It's gonna be alright, Dad" better than Tom Hanks? As I was saying, I may need some time.

  7. I have been to the future. From my perspective, it's already happened.
  8. Folks won't like it. Adam Wainwright. Write it down.
  9. The journey of a thousand miles ... blahblahblah. So let's at least catch up to 7/11. This is all old news, but let's illuminate. Or, perhaps, it's part of scheme to get new replacements onto the roster by stashing non-injured guys on the IL, if you want to look at it more cynically. 10. How about Yermin Mercedes, man?
  11. Oh, shit, I just figured out who the Mets are going to get.
  12. Don't know what kind of indicator it is, but he's having a falloff season. It may all be non-predictative, but with both Villar and Guillorme out-rate-statting him, and every reason to expect an eventual return this season from Lindor, he certainly wouldn't be at the top of my list.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: This may even require Mackie Shilstone. Mackie deserves an entry in the Ultimate Mets Database. Rev. Jaerock Lee does also, for that matter.
  14. YIKES!! A homerun every 11 pitches?! https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2021/07/roel.jpg>
  15. That's also a terrible number for a skinny guy.
  16. Ooooh, I'm thinking with a musical accompaniment of "I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight."
  17. Matz'll get the scoreboard montage treatment, right?
  18. Thank you, my man.
  19. Watch a pro swing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD5ZMW6VdiEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD5ZMW6VdiE
  20. Yeah, that's the way to end a road trip. Unfortunately it looks like Stro will miss his old team when the Jays come to town, but then he can open the more important five-game series against the Braves. A strong showing there can pull the rug right out from under Atlanta, because the series takes them right up to the trade deadline.
  21. I'll do it piecemeal. Have been finishing a work project, finishing an article, dealing with medical shit, saying goodbye to a godmother, and doing a research thingy. If I don't find time supervise Met Roster Central Staff, things tend to go to hell pretty quickly. If it's 2021, things go to hell in two days.
  22. =bmfc1 post_id=72195 time=1626896408 user_id=73]A one-hitter and it still took 2:59 but it was time well spent.
  23. Did a perfectly fine imitation of a lesser Michael Conforto while the genuine article was injured. (Still sports a stat line with an OPS about 100 points above the genuine article, in fact.) Was hoping he'd be the team's lefty bat off the bench (LBotB) for the pennant drive. For now, the role falls to Travis Blankenhorn or a veteran to be named later (VtBNL). The Dodgers, should he appear for them, will be his fifth MLB club, and seventh MLB organization, which isn't bad for a 26-year-old.
  24. I think that Guillorme is going to be alright, and he's going to remember those glovefarts as the moment that transformed him into a guy who would stick.
