An lead with the shoulder There would have been nothing wrong with the slide had it been before the base. IOW, the slide itself was fine, it was just the timing/placement of it.

I don;t think Tejada is marketable enough to pass rules to protect him but ts so obvious that play was bullshit. We got fucked over by every rule in the book tonight (plus Addison Reed). Not scoring after the 2nd inning didn't help matters either.
  3. Shitty night for David: DP - K - DP - Pop-out
  4. Get Cespedes to the dish as the tying run, David.

Ronnie explained it via MLB and it was pretty much what I had guessed: - that Tejada never touched the base which both negates the neighborhood play and ,makes Utley safe - that the fact the umps told Utley he was out is the reason he went to the dugout. they then hypothesize that he would have touched up if the "correct" call was made - the late slide is probably judgement and therefore not reviewable
  7. Cuz I'd be shocked if we haven't seen the last of Tejada until April. And, if so, who would it be? Has to be someone who can cover SS
  8. Oh, they're able to respond. Fastball in Adrian Gonzalez's ribs the next time he sets foot in the batter's box. Robles could do it, half the league already hates him.
  9. The thing about that play is that it could have occurred exactly as it did and been called: - as no outs (the way it was) - as one out (the original call) - or as two outs (had Utley been flagged for an illegal slide and the batter/runner been thumbed on account of it)

But they've got to be fucking kidding me if they're going to reverse it on any of the angles that we saw. But the problem is that he didn't run off the field abandoning the base. He never attained it. But the logic (I'm guessing) is that if the play was "correctly" called in the first place that Utley would have touched up instead of leaving the field like he was told. It's just another example of the fallacy that replay can retroactively fix incorrect calls to what supposed to happen. They're saying this too. Of course, if he hadn't called him out Tejada might have crawled over there and tagged him out. Which is why I threw in the second sentence in my reply. -- "It's just another example of the fallacy that replay can retroactively fix incorrect calls to what [was] supposed to happen."

  13. I hope someone "accidentally" tags Utley out with their spikes in his neck.

  15. YOU GOTTA BE FUCKING KIDDING!!!!
  16. Nothing wrong with a take-out slide, but that Utley's slide didn't start until he was past the base is the part of it that's not kosher. Don't think they were turning the DP anyway but the ump can flag the runner at 1st on account of the slide - but they're obviously not going to do that now.

I was thinking after watching several of these parks at playoff time that I really hope Eff & Jeff don't go into their copy-cat routine and think they suddenly need to order a few gross of towels by Monday.
  18. Thor has thrown some silver bullets past Seager tonight.

  20. Somebody had a quiz last night about HR-ing in your first post-season game. Well the answer to that question has just been updated.
  21. Playing the part of Daniel Murphy tonight will be Yoenis Cespedes
  22. Leadoff man on AND made him throw a buncha pitches first.
  23. Ballplayers (both current and ex-) seem to buy into the 'they need to have their roles' thing a lot more than us fans do, so, no, it doesn't particularly surprise me that Keith & Nelson are rubber-stamping the idea. I suspect players also tend towards looking at the longer view (Clippard has been better over the last two seasons or so) vs fans who gravitate to the shorter (how did he do yesterday?!?!)
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I don't think I knew that neither Donn Clendenon, Ron Swoboda, nor Ed Charles appeared at all in the 1969 NLCS. That's a bit freaky, especially seeing as how Clendenon is long talked about being the guy who got them there and that Swoboda had played pretty much full time down the stretch during August & September (30 of his 52 RBIs that year came after Aug 1). But the Braves threw a bunch of right-handers at us and Gil loved him some platooning. Plus there wasn't a lot of PH-ing or relieving: just because your staff gives up 15 runs in 3 games is no reason to use more than three guys out of the pen during the series (McGraw, Ryan, and Taylor twice). 1) Tommie Agee: 10/4/1969 2) Wayne Garrett: 10/4/1969 3) Cleon Jones: 10/4/1969 4) Tom Seaver: 10/4/1969 5) Jerry Grote: 10/4/1969 6) Ed Kranepool: 10/4/1969 7) Ken Boswell: 10/4/1969 8) Bud Harrelson: 10/4/1969 9) Art Shamsky: 10/4/1969 10) Al Weis: 10/4/1969 11) J. (Game 1, 9th inning, pr Teddy Martinez on 1st, Mets down 2-1). In the rearview that seems a bit nutty (no offense meant to the late JB) but don't remember if it was also viewed that way at the time.
