  1. My main concern with Wright is not just the number of Ks -- already 20+% more than last year's partial season in only 70-some% of the PAs -- but the seemingly large percentage of them that are looking. I'm not quite sure specifically what to make of that (becoming more of a guess hitter?) but it's noticeable. btw, anyone know of an easy way to find K's-looking vs K's-swinging?
  2. It was one year ago last Thursday (5/12) that Syndergaard made his ML debut Stats then for his first 'full' season come in at: 31 starts; 12-9; 3.07 ERA; 1.04 WHiP; 221 K / 40 BBs Is that something I can interest you in for a 23 y/o pitcher? Best. Trade. Ever. (which would be even better if d'Arnaud could even stay on the field and/or if Wuilmer Becerra develops some power) Also, by coincidence, it was two years ago yesterday (5/15) that deGrom made his ML debut: 58 starts; 26-15; 2.60; 1.06; 372 K / 89 BB

Wright's hitting .264/.377/.425 with 8 HRs & 15 doubles over the near half-season's worth of ABs that he has since returning from his back issues last August. Not what we were used to from the early years of his career certainly, but assuming that a .377 OBA with somewhere around 16 HRs and 30 doubles over a full season is the 'new normal' for him, I think we could live with that. It wouldn't be commensurate with his salary level of course, but it's not toast either.
  4. Apparently white women can jump, it's just the males who can't.
  5. I'm not sure there's anything in particular that's 'flawed' about this team aside from the recent two-week slump-a-thon. Our BA & OBA, which had been around league average until recently, are now both at the somewhat below avg level which is what happens to all averages during early season slumps. The OPS is still above average thanks to the slugging. Mainly what the 'O' could use is a turn-around in the men-on & RiSP numbers which all year have been bottom-of-the-barrel bad, well below even the currently depressed overall BA/OBA levels. But aside from appealing to the clutch fairy (or trading for Jeter) you have to figure that a regression to the mean in those situations is in order at some point. And on the pitching side there's nothing to complain about except for Harvey and if he's going to suck for the time being then we're just going to have to eat that until someone figures out what's wrong and he starts un-sucking again.

  7. Edgy MD wrote: In part, yes, I'm referring to Josh Hamilton, even though Hamilton first re-asserted himself in Cincinnati. Indeed, as noted by the NY Times in one of their papers in the last few days (Fri or Sat), there's an advisor within the Ranger org who's in charge of problem cases that may come up and it was he who advocated for getting both Hamilton & Bush.
  8. I always associated it with 'Granfaloon' even though I knew the words were not connected as the latter one was a made-up word used by Kurt Vonnegut.
  9. THAT'S AN ABSURD CALL!
  10. Edgy MD wrote: Tyler Chatwood should not be pitching into the seventh against the Mets at Coors. There's been a lot of this sort of thing lately. Nats & Phils both lost today. This would be a nice win to cash in on.
  11. We can't let this happen. Let's get up a petition or something. Start a fb page: NO ADVERTISING ON MLB UNIFORMS! . Or blast it out from the CPF page. I bet we can get 5 million people who are dead against ads on unis. Might be harder finding a dozen who like the idea. If public opinion mattered in these matters, the Dodgers would still be in Brooklyn, the Colts in Baltimore, World Series games would be during the day (at least on weekends), and they never would have torn down the old Penn Station.
  12. "Hey Trevor, what's the story?" and if you get that reference, you're officially old
  13. soupcan wrote: NBA has already said they're doing it. Just a matter of time before the rest of the pro leagues follow suit. Yup! I think it's just a matter of when, not if. The only hope I cling to is that, when it does come, they'll keep them small and reasonably unobtrusive, which I'm sure they will at the beginning but, once that line is crossed, the urge to creep up in size will be much easier.
  14. soupcan wrote: MLB apparently testing the 'advertising on uniforms' issue today. I'm not a fan. It's an 'in-house' thing, advertising an MLB initiative for kiddie involvement in exercise and ball playing.
  15. Now THAT'S how you handle replays. If it's going to take 5 minutes of microscopic dissection to decide whether the initial call was correct or not and then STILL be a toss-up, then let it stand and let's get back to baseball.
  16. Nats split their DH w/Miami Phils just won yet another one-run game (now 14-3). The game ended on a fly-ball DP with the tying run thrown out at home, Tyler Goeddell to Cameron Rupp complete with a big collision at home (yes, those are still allowed under the right circumstances).
  17. Geez, if we'd quite hitting into DPs in between all these hits we might actually get something going here.
  18. [fimg=350:1h0uxtf2]http://sites.psu.edu/fortherecord/wp-content/uploads/sites/5752/2013/10/animalhouse-620x331.jpg[/fimg:1h0uxtf2] Was it over when the Germen came in to relieve?

  20. 10 hits + 3 walks vs only 8 outs. I'm new to this game but I don't think that's very good. And really it was only 7 batters retired for Verrett since he got one of his outs via an ill-advised caught stealing.
  21. And on top of everything else, this is heading for a 5 hour game at this pace. An hour and a half in and we're not thru the 3rd yet.
  22. Zvon wrote: I stepped off for 15 minutes or so and Im reading horrible things about umps. All on ball/strike calls? A swing-and-miss for strike 3 that was ruled a foul tip (missed it by 6 inches). That allowed the AB to continue which wound up as a 2R 2B And, yes, Terry got tossed arguing that call.
  23. This could be a problem. Have the Mets even scored 7 runs this month?
  24. Made his debut with a 1-2-3 inning in Friday night's loss to the Blue Jays.
  25. Clipped from the Rox KTE thread: I'm trying to think what Reyes' ultimate destination will be. With 3-5 lousy infielders, New York pedigree, and a demonstrated tolerance for domestic abusers on the mend, the Yankees are always a potential landing spot, but I can't see them dealing for him even paying nickels on the dollar. Perhaps Colorado just releases him and the Yankees sign him on the cheap. Yeah, in the old days, snapping up Reyes would have been a move George would be all over. These days I'm not so sure. On the other hand, Didi Gregorious and his .241 OBA so far this season isn't quite the player the Yanx thought they had coming off his solid second half of 2015 so maybe they think he needs a platoon partner. Right now their only backup at SS is a 23 y/o Venezuelan waiver pick-up off the Dodger roster who oddly sounds like he's the baby Reyes had via his long-ago illicit affair with Joe Torre: Ronald Torreyes. Maybe that's what Jose and his wife were fighting about. And then there's the money. Owed about 2/3 of the $22 million for the remainder of this season, plus the full $22 for next year, plus a $4 mil buyout to keep from having to pay the same again in 2018. That's over $40 million at minimum and Colorado might have to eat at least $35 of that just to get someone to take him. In other MFY news: RHP Luis Severino walked off the mound in the 3rd inning last night and straight onto the DL with what is being described as "tricep soreness". Not that he was pitching well anyway [0-6, 7.46] but he, like Gregorious, was another guy coming off a promising 2015. But now, with the also not pitching well Ivan Nova was already bumped into the rotation to replace the also DL'd and also not pitching well CC Sabathia, this just spreads the already thin starting talent a little thinner.
