  1. Eight errors over your last six games is no way to get called up to the majors, son. On the plus side: .320/.386/.432
  2. Two hits for Ichiro this afternoon (although in a Marlins loss) which moves him ahead of Pete Rose if all his Japanese & MLB hits are counted. And he's now just 21 short of 3K for his ML career
  3. Mmmmm, that's a nice $40 million lunch [approx $16 for the remainder of this season + $22 in '17 + $4 in buyout] And this insures that the six year deal he signed with the Marlins will be split among at least four organizations.
  4. OK Syndegaard, there are your runs, make them stand up and don't expect any more.
  5. Bases-loaded w/none out ... AND WE SCORED MORE THAN ZERO!!!!!
  6. A MIGHTY RBI HIT!!! And, better yet, it reduces the odds of the GiDP (but not of the IF pop-up)
  7. LAGARES - CF GRANDERSON - RF CESPEDES - LF CABRERA - SS FLORES - 3B LONEY - 1B REYNOLDS - 2B RIVERA - C SYNDERGAARD - P

  9. Papelbon to the DL (inter-costal strain) two days after giving up a 9th inning lead in a game where the Nats came back to win anyway. I don't think the Nats trust Papelbon as far as they can throw him but he's virtually un-tradeable at this point between his high-wire acts, huge salary, the fact that they've got a very inexperienced pen behind him, and, oh yeah, the part where he tried choking the league MVP on his own team in his own dugout in the middle of a pennant race and on camera last September. Tonight they went with 2nd year lefty Sammy Solis in the 9th but he promptly gave up the lead and the game right after the Nats had tied it in the bottom 8 and prior to him it was Oliver Perez; those were the two relievers they were using in a one-run game vs the best team in MLB. And all this is a long way of getting around to saying that I'd be shocked if the Nats [u:19qjr166]weren't[/u:19qjr166] in hard on any or all of the Yanx relievers between now and deadline time. Of course first the Yanx have to decide that their ultra-proud/stubborn tradition of never admitting that a season is out of reach doesn't work in all situations and realize that spinning off one or more of the Bettances/Miller/Chapman trio for whatever young meat they can land is the way to go in their situation. Not that the Nats will be the only team in on them, but it's definitely going to be one of the more interesting stories come mid-season.
  10. Saying that Conforto is "scuffling" is like saying that George Brett was slightly peeved at being called out for too much pine tar. So, good thing we didn't have to face Cole, huh?
  11. The only real question with Conforto was a three-pitch K or a four.
  12. That's our new strategy: hit a ball too shitty to be turned into a DP.
  13. Well, the odds of getting two runs tonight were sitting at about 4%. The odds of getting at least four in the remaining two innings is too low to calculate.
  14. Grounder - Grounder - Grounder That inning was better, but not really.
  15. Aaaaaand, that didn't take long.
  16. I suppose one of those grounders had to find a hole eventually. Second ball that got out of the infield so far tonight.
  17. At this point you're not even thinking of tying or winning the game as much as you are just not being embarrassed.
  18. Yeah, I'm not suggesting Nimmo as a permanent replacement for Conforto. But, while dealing with a short slump is one thing, we're approaching like seven weeks worth of nothingness at this point.
  19. [reprinted from Adopt-a-Prospect forum] Those footsteps Michael Conforto is hearing just may be from some Wyoming-made cowboy boots. Now at .330/.405/.530 for the season, which means that since my May 23rd post he's had 23 hits in his last 61 PAs (not ABs, but PAs) including 4 HRs and 11 XBHs in those 23 hits. And, yeah it's Vegas, but 38% of his hits on the season (25 of 66) are for XBs. Compare all that to Conforto being 4 for 36 in June and 18 for 119 since the end of April. Gary brought up the idea of farming out Conforto the other day (not specifically mentioning Nimmo but just in general). Keith brushed it aside but at the same time didn't rule it out completely and added that he didn't think such a move would be a soul-destroying maneuver from which a player never recovers. And sooner or later something's got to change somewhere, so when you figure in same position, LH batter, ... If nothing else, the season for Nimmo thus far continues his pattern of taking some time to adjust to a new level but then adjusting to it quite nicely. After almost double the number of PAs at Vegas 2016 compared to the partial season there after his 2015 promotion, his current 935 OPS is a sizable jump over last year's 810

  21. Perfect game got busted up by a HR with one out in the 6th. Scherzer wound up going 7 in a combined 2-hit 4-1 win for the Nationals. One thing about being now five full games behind the Nats is that they'll have their complement of Cubs games out of the way before we even have our first - and that's not a good thing.
  22. Yeah, Cole walked off the mound after two innings and 35 pitches on Friday and is almost certain not to pitch in this series, meaning we will have missed him both times this year. MLB.com's sked has Pitt listed as TBD for all three games, facing deGrom, Syndergaard & Colon. The last five games they played were with Nicolino, Locke, Cole, Liriano, & Niese. They don't play today either so they could conceivably go with Nicolino, Locke, and Liriano without having to revert to short rest. James Taillon was sent down after we saw his one and only ML start in the last series although certainly could be brought back if Cole is DL'd. Also missing from last series is starting catcher Francisco 'Fist Pump' Cervelli, DL'd with a broken hand. The Buccos even had to trade w/Anaheim for former Philly backup Eric Kratz to fill his spot and swap with Chris Stewart

  24. Cubs @ Nationals in the first of three Scherzer perfect thru 5 w/9 Ks on less than 60 pitches. 1-0 Nats - middle 5th.
