  1. If they could just raise their RiSP and 2-out/RiSP averages to merely pathetic levels they'd be in first place right now. But they'd have to go on a hitting tear just to get to pathetic.
  2. Standard Operating Procedure.

  4. They're freakin' doing it again!! Hits w/RiSP aren't scoring runs, and our FO's with runners on 3rd aren't deep enough to score anyone either.
  5. Hits w/RiSP? Yeah, we don't do that.
  6. ROUND 3: Blake Tiberi; 3B, U of Louisville; L/R; 5' 11"/195 DOB: 2/16/95 ROUND 4: Michael Paez; SS; Coastal Carolina; R/R; [u:3vbret8p]5' 8"/165[/u:3vbret8p]; 12/8/94 ROUND 5: Colby Woodmansee; SS; Arizona State; R/R; 6' 3"/195; 8/27/94 ROUND 6: Christopher Viall; RHP; Stanford; 6' 9"/230; 9/28/95 And, yeah, all this stuff is premature to even think about. On the other hand, 14 of tonight's 30 starters were 1st round draft picks, including seven in the top 10, two overall #1's, and two picked by the Mets Pelfrey (9th overall pick in 2005), CC Sabathia (20 in 1998), Michael Wacha (19/2012), Chris Sale (13/2010), Ian Kennedy (21/2006), Kevin Gaussman (4/2012), Lance McCullers (41/2012), Gerritt Cole (#1/2011), Steven Strasberg (#1/2009), Sonny Gray (18/2011), Jon 'No Relation' Gray (3/2013), Andrew Cashner (19/2008), Clayton Kershaw (7/2006), and Matt Harvey (7/2010)
  7. If the Brewers win the challenge of our challenge can we then challenge that call?
  8. 2. New York RHP Jeurys Familia is a perfect 20-for-20 in save situations this season. He may be 20 for 20 but he's far from perfect.
  9. Yeah, forgot about Reynolds too. But, if nothing else, this revives the argument about whether you'd prefer to be a man short for 2-4 days or be without a starter (or semi-starter in Juan's case) for 15 days even though healthy for 10-12 of them while a lesser man takes his place.
  10. Oh yeah, forgot about Akeel. So now that Lagares played last night -- and fielded, and hit, and OMG SLID HEAD-FIRST INTO 2nd BASE!!!! -- I guess today's transaction is just a straight Kelly for Kelly swap-a-relly
  11. 9 game suspension for Ventura, 4 games for Machado Starting pitchers are always going to get longer ones simply because 5 games essentially means at worst a delayed start and often nothing at all. Plus he's a recidivist asshole. I think 4 for Machado is harsh. After getting buzzed three times and then obviously and intentionally plunked who wouldn't go out there, especially against a recidivist asshole. Maybe the old ways -- when Ray Knight & Tom Niedenfuer simply went to 1st base and returned to the mound after that HBP/brawl was defused -- weren't perfect either, but there's an aspect of 'self-policing' that gets lost when everyone turns to big brother to take care of it all. There was something uniquely cool about 'you hit me, I hit you back, now let's go back to where we were and finish the game'.
  12. Certainly now with the first one already in the bag, anything short of 3-of-4 would be a disappointment. The only thing I'm not ready to do is declare the hitting drought over even with Keith during the wrap-up citing 13 hits as evidence that 'the bats came alive'. There were a ton of seeing-eye hits that could just as easily been outs (or GiDPs!!) but for fortunate placement and even the seemingly good 5-13 w/RiSP is misleading as they were getting one run out of situations where two or more looked not just possible but likely. But at least, unlike in the Pittsburgh series, the breaks were going our way last night as they were the ones hitting at'em balls into 3 GiDPs plus had two other baserunners erased via a CS and a Pick-off.
  13. They will get to the Mets #64 pick tonight. I thought earlier that they were stopping in the 40s
  14. When I went to HS, Ward Melville was known as a lacrosse powerhouse. Best thing about Kay: not related to Michael http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/6/5/11861226/2016-mlb-draft-anthony-kay-lhp-university-of-connecticut
  15. With pick #31 they stay local (what are we, the Braves?) with Anthony Kay, LHP, UConn
  16. mlb.com's Jim Callis: Dunn had so much helium down the stretch that I thought there was a very good chance he would go No. 10 to the White Sox or No. 11 to the Mariners. So the Mets have to be pleasantly surprised to get him here. He opened the season in BC's bullpen, but proved he could start and seemed to get better every outing down the stretch. Odd thought: Maybe the bullpen background means that there's less mileage on his arm compared to some of his age-group contemporaries.
  17. D'Brickshaw Ferguson
  18. Well some are saying that he's got the stuff to stay as a starter. Either way, that he went this high means the Mets see him as at least slightly better than the consensus did ["... he was flying up boards, with some feeling he could be gone by the end of the first round"] but how often is the consensus right? And ... Hometown: Freeport L.I. Yanx grabbed the Rutherford kid being discussed earlier in the pick right before theirs.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Was Wilmer giving himself up there or just lost? I suspect he thought he was doing the right thing by ensuring that the 2nd run scored but that's not a good play with no outs. One out maybe, two definitely, but not there.
  20. Well, like Wilmer's game-winning hit last night, this one wasn't pretty but it was effective.
  21. Some of this stuff would be comical if it weren't for the fact that it's so non-comical. We now have 3 hits w/RiSP tonight yet only one run as a result.
  22. Another two-on/none-out situation ... which means there's little hope for scoring
  23. On the flip side of our RiSP suckiness, the Brewers are having all their baserunners erased before ever getting to scoring position: 3 GiDPs plus a pickoff!
  24. The move to DL or not probably comes tomorrow when they have to do something to slide Kelly Johnson onto the roster (and onto the 40-man although that could be a different move). If Juan and his thumb get sent to Florida rehab then I guess Ty gets a reprieve and our roster will have multiple Kellys for the near future. If Juan stays then Ty could get floated on waivers so as to create 40 man space as well as 25.
  25. Five consecutive ABs w/a runner in scoring position, but even with a Single & HBP mixed in, 2 Ks and a FO keep the inning scoreless.
