  1. Cardinals hit five grounders in that 8th inning, all of them with possible force plays including four that were potential DPs, and we got all of two outs out of those five. Meanwhile the Mets killed the top of that inning with a bases-loaded/1-out GiDP which was Cespedes's third 3 GiDP in his last 6 trips to the plate.

  4. I hope that fan gets tossed out of the park. It's one thing if it's hard hit and you can make some claim of self-defense or pure reaction. But when you reach over the stands to grab a 19-hopper which was clearly in play, I'm tossing that guy out on the street.

  6. Hey Broxton, only one guy on the mound at a time!

  8. The wild, NEW west, where pickup trucks have replaced horses, rusting oil equipment occupies former buffalo land, and outlaws are as likely to be behind a bank desk as behind a bandana. But all that updating doesn’t mean insulting Indians has gone out of fashion or that things can’t still windup in a shootout across a dusty landscape. Brothers Toby & Tanner (Chris Pine, Ben Foster) concoct a plan to keep from losing title to the old family ranch. Jeff Bridges is the nearing retirement Texas lawman who finds renewed passion in chasing down what seems to be a series of minor bank ripoffs.
  9. De Aza is the watcher on the wall.
  10. 5 - Reyes 6 - Cabrera 7 - Cespedes 3 - Loney 9 - Granderson 4 - Flores 8 - De Aza 2 - R. Rivera 1 - Lugo
  11. Here's what I'm getting for all NYM OFs combined in 2016: .238/.305/.434 // 739 For all OFs minus Cespedes: .221/.290/.392 // 682 NL avg OPS for OFs looks to be right around 760

  13. The deal still got us out from under the commitment to Bastardo for next season and just removing his occasional 2/3 of an inning appearance lowered the time of game average by some 30 minutes - so I'm sticking with my 'Like'
  14. If trouble vs LHP was his only trouble then he wouldn't have been farmed out in the first place. But starting May 1st he hit .160 w/63 K in 192 AB, and almost all of that came vs RHP. He'll be back when rosters expand next week unless Bruce's 'cramp' is in fact a fracture fibula in which case he'll be back sooner.
  15. And remember that this is a 7 PM EDT start tonight, a game which may or may not be shown over MLBN depending on your area. Seth Lugo (and, No, we're NOT shitting you!!) vs Adam Wainwright (9-7; 4.71; 1.36) Wainwright is in the midst of the worst statistical year of his career which comes on the heels of the now 34 y/o missing most of 2015 with injuries. Mainly he got off to a terrible start, then seemed to find himself with a good month of July but has been shaky at best during four starts in August including giving up 6 runs to the Braves over 6, then coughing up 7 to the Cubs in just 2 innings in his following start. Needless to say this is an important game.
  16. Three-way trade involving the Marlins, Braves, and Rangers -- the gist of which is that Jeff Francoeur winds up in Miami, presumably to platoon in RF w/Ichiro while Giancarlo is out. Several minor leaguers changed addresses as did some cash and a couple of "international signings slots" (I still don't understand how those work). This leaves only the Nationals on Francoeur's NL East bucket list.
  17. And all this just as the Nationals are starting to stumble too. They were getting bopped vs the O's tonight until they scored 5 in the 9th to make it close before Zimmerman GiDP'd with two on to end the game. 10-8 Baltimore was the final. The final run was off closer Zack Britton and just today I was looking up his stats for the season because they're so stunning. Here are four games from Britton this year: April 11 @ Red Sox - starts the 9th inning with the Os up by 3 runs Gives up leadoff HR to Mookie Betts, closes out the inning with no more runs Line = 1 inning, 1 ER on 2 hits (Save) April 21 @ Tampa - starts the 9th inning up by 3 Leadoff single then a RBI 2-out single Line = 1 inning, 1 ER on 2 hits (Save) April 30 vs ChiSox - starts the 9th inning in a tie game K, K, bunt single. At this point he was inexplicably removed from the game (maybe there was a legit reason, I cant tell). The replacement allows 2 walks plus an RBI single (charged to Britton) before getting the final out Line = 2/3 inning, 1 hit (bunt), 1 ER, (Loss) June 21 vs Padres - starts the 9th inning, down by one run K, E-5, Single, RBI Single, Squeeze Bunt (RBI) - removed from game Replacement gives up a walk & single to allow one more run to score. Line = 1/3 inning, 3 runs, 0 ER on 2 hits The reason I included just those games is that THESE ARE THE ONLY RUNS HES ALLOWED ALL SEASON!!!! (now add in one more tonight) - a solo HR with a 3-run lead - a 2-out RBI single with a 3-run lead - a bunt single which came around to score after he was out of the game - and 3 Unearned runs in a non-save situation So the last earned runs he allowed this season were back in April, and only two of those three came while he was still on the mound. Season Line: 54 games, 40 games finished, 0.53 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 25 Hits, 61 K, 16 BB, 1 HR, 3 ER And did I mention that hes left-handed, 28 y/o, and under team control for the next two season after this one?

  19. Over his last two starts, deGrom has retired 20 of the 38 batters he's faced. That's not good.
  20. And just as I was starting to say; "Shit, the Bruce for Grandy swap just cost us a run", d'Arnaud gets the tag down in time. Now all we have to worry about is the fact that deGrom has given up 4 hits including 3 XBHs to the first 8 batters he's faced.
  21. Well at least it took until the 2nd inning tonight before a player limped off the field. So we're thinking, what, major surgery and an eight month recovery span?

  23. Gary was pronouncing this as Geh-Zell-Man whereas my mind, having only seen it spelled but not pronounced prior to yesterday, had pre-assigned it the softer S of Geh-Cell-Man A quick check through the interwebs revealed no clues as to the ethnic/lingual origins of such a name (or even any names with that unusual Gs beginning) other than a rather lame indication that virtually all Gsellmans reside in the USA.

But, again, KC started so much further back, so far back that this 9-straight/13-of-16 run of theirs was needed just to bring them up to where we are now coming off a 6-8 stretch over the past two weeks. Put another way, the Royals need to essentially duplicate what they've just done over the last few weeks to really jump into the thick of the race, we just need to do it once (and not shit the bed during the 'non-streak' games). Tough, but possible.
