  1. Trea Turner to the DL with a hamstring injury, something which is never a good thing for a speedster SS. In recent years this would be a sign for the versatile Danny Espinosa but he moved on over the winter so Stephen Drew is the current replacement.
  2. I assume those are player ages across the X-axis which would put Conforto squarely on the upside of the graph with Grandy on the downslope. It's less obvious what the Y-axis would be in this case or whether Lenny has any idea what a Y-axis is. It also leads to speculation about how Conforto's two months worth of 450-ish OPS last summer leading to his banishment to the minors would play into Dykstra's conclusion. I suspect it would be a case of simply ignoring "data" that doesn't fit the pre-determined conclusion which he reached following exhaustive research involving watching last night's HR then reaching for his Twitter phone.

I guess somebody did a focus group that told them that this is what people want to see. See that's just it, it's not a baseball game to them it's a TV show. As far as showing what baseball fans want to see, I doubt that even entered their minds. Besides, I'm not sure ESPN knows any baseball fans. The sad part is that Karl Ravech (not their usual p-b-p guy but filling that role last night) is as smart and knowledgeable about baseball as anyone, and Eduardo Perez has been in ML clubhouses since he was three years old. Left alone they'd probably do a solid job, but that's not what they're sent out there to do.
  4. After about a half-dozen of those ball-toss reps I'd be like; "We're done for the day now, right?"
  5. The Phils are apparently having closer questions this early in the season. Titular closer Jeanmar Gomez has put up two bad outings in his three 2017 appearances [barely hanging on after a 2R HR opening day in a game the Phils led by 3 -- then a two-out/9th inning 3R HR to Ryan Zimmerman which tied Sunday's game before the Phils won it in the bottom half] and all this is coming off a bad second half of 2016: an 8.83 ERA post ASB which ended with 22 earned runs in his final 15 IP.

I believe its IFC or ICF, but in any case, I went thru the entire guide and could not find it. Does anyone have that channel and can you tell me the channel # is in your cable package (might be different here, but probably close if it is). http://www.ifc.com/channel-finder
  7. Edgy MD wrote: Say what you will about Buck and McCarver, but you knew it wasn't the first baseball game they've seen since their last assignment. As I've said before, the network is the bigger problem than the announcers themselves. ESPN doesn't think you tune in to watch a ballgame, they think you tune in to watch how they present it. The game, in their mind, is secondary to whatever pre-planned gimmicks and promos they've got up their sleeves. Everything that's on ESPN is about what else is on ESPN.
  8. "Food you want to fork" REALLY? That's the slogan you're going with?!?!
  9. Well that's a nice sign. #Conforto
  10. Nice of them to go to full screen once Bruce's HR was halfway to the OF seats. I tend to think that watching a HR is more important that seeing a guy take off his batting gloves, but apparently opinions differ on that topic.
  11. Look at it this way: our quota of Sunday Night games will be largely spent before April is even over.
  12. Sewald with the infinite ERA If he gets an out here it'll plummet down to 27.00
  13. Or maybe not. btw, there are NO HRs in that game in Philly, currently 13-1 Phils after five. Bottom 1st: 2B, 1B, SB, BB, SAC FLY, 1B, 1B, BB, SAC FLY, BB, BB, 3B, 1B [Pitching Change] 2B, 2B, 1B, K = 12Runs
  14. Nice of them to take Conley out of the game after just five innings. All RH relievers for the Fish from here on out remember.
  15. In recent years we've been leaving the division opponents to group KTEs as it's the out of division and inter-league ones where we usually need it more*, but of course peeps are free to take anyone. I'll go with the Cards and Texas. * particularly this year where the first five weeks will be the same four opponents. We'll have more than half of this year's Braves games behind us by May 4th and the Marlins by the 7th.
  16. The unusual early -season situation of having just two off-days over the next 32 probably has something to do with that decision. I don't particularly like it, but I suspect that's at least part of their reasoning.
  17. Yeah, one bad inning and that's enough for me too. So as of tomorrow, Smoker, Wheeler, Montero, and Robles are all off the team.
  18. Zvon wrote: Think the Marlins have gotten enough cheap hits tonight? Maybe one solid hit? That's all I've seen. More like three: the triple, the HR, and then that last RBI single right after I posted the last one. But in between they've had a ton of shit. Of course we've had less than shit so it's not like we'd be winning if only we had better luck. In the meantime the fans have just what they want on a 40 degree windy night, a blowout that's two hours old and not even half over yet.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: Think the Marlins have gotten enough cheap hits tonight? Apparently not. I think that last one had stopped before it got to Cespedes.

  21. Keith must have headphones that totally block out whatever Gary says given the number of times he says something seconds after Gary does. GC: Phil Regan was also on the 1969 Cubs coaching staff" KH (10 seconds later): And I believe he was part of the ill-fated '69 Cubs team"
  22. themetfairy wrote: Keith - "Tonight's the night you're going to want to break out the Danskin tights for the extra tall girl." Surprisingly, neither Gary nor Ron followed up on that. Keith's brought that up in the past. He learned from Bobby Bonds that tights under the uni was the key to playing in cold but few if any of them were made for men in those days. So if you're a 6' 2" athlete and go shopping for them you needed to scout out the ones for big and tall girls.
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I was a little worried about an appeal on the run that Curtis drove in. I wasn't at all sure that Asdrubal touched the plate. And the ump didn't signal 'Safe', either because he thought it was so obvious (although he should anyway) or because he didn't think Cabrera did touch and left it up to Miami to to belatedly tag him.
  24. Zvon wrote: Whoa! Wheeler looking good in the 1st. He's known for being good on 924 days rest.
  25. And their theory is that 'SW24' is so well known that all you have to do is let people see the logo and they'll say; "Oh yeah, that security outfit ... thanks for the reminder, I'll give them a call tomorrow" ???
