  1. Nice 1-2-3 [u:3khwp2om]8-pitch[/u:3khwp2om] inning from Seaweed. Makes the double switch look that much better.
  2. It's all in the wrists!! That also partially makes up for all those at 'em balls they hit earlier.

  4. Edgy MD wrote: "We don't read books in here." — Ronnie on his treatment by a Mets veteran in the clubhouse of Miller-Huggins Field Gotta be Ron Hodges, right? Ronnie has previously identified Hodges as the guy who'd spit tobacco juice on all over his new shoes. Doesn't seem too anxious here about fingering the anti-reader. In that book 'The Arm' that was out a couple years ago on the issues surrounding the UCL and TJ surgery, one of the pitchers featured because he was going in for his second go-around on TJ was reliever Todd Coffey (kind of an Edgin looking character who used to sprint in from the pen when summoned). Anyway, he comes across as this same kind of dumb jock by telling his daughter that if a book's any good it'll get made into a TV show or movie so there's no reason to read it. You might think that attitude had improved a bit since Ronnie's time but apparently not.

  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Another play that 2017 d'Arnaud makes that pre-2017 d'Arnaud might not I was thinking the same thing. How many times did we see him fumble the hop from an OF throw because the whole mishmash of gloving the ball, blocking the plate, and making the tag seemed too much for him and he'd wind up messing up one or more of those tasks?
  7. This Just In: Todd Frazier is NOT a 'True Yanqui' First YSIII AB in pinstripes = Triple Play Welcome "home" Todd.
  8. What happened to Chacin? oe: bumped until tomorrow apparently Well whatever happened to him, Kyle Christopher (no, really) Lloyd will be making his ML debut tonight. 26 y/o, 6' 4" / 220; BR/TR; 29th round draft pick of the Padres in 2012 out of the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana despite being from Carmel, California Steady progress through the minor leagues since although repeating at the AA level this year. 7-5; 4.01 in 15 starts at AA San Antonio in 2017
  9. San Diego, where all the Padres used to wear Brown and the Mets will be in Gray / we'll stop in for a game on a summer's .. er, night. Seth Lugo vs Jhoulys Chacin [9 - 6; 4.27; 1.29] Chacin was the starter in the one game of that May series in which the Mets won, smacking him around for [u:19d90m7b]7 runs on 8 hits in 2/3 of an inning[/u:19d90m7b]!! Conforto = HR; Reyes = Single; Bruce = Single; Walker = Single; Granderson = Sac Fly; Flores = Single; Duda = Double; R. Rivera = Single; Harvey = Ground Out; Conforto = Single ... and that was all for his night. Final Score: Mets 9 - Padres 3 Since that day he's actually been pretty decent aside from the fact that he rarely goes more than six innings - although even that's not so unusual now.
  10. Bartolo faced Cody Bellinger last night, just a few weeks shy of 17 years after facing papa Clay Bellinger. Add that duo to the Fielders, Cecil and Prince, and the Youngs, Eric Sr. and Eric Jr. on Colon's resume. He had also formerly pitched to both managers in last night's game, LA's Dave Roberts and his own manager Paul Molitor.
  11. He's 28 y/o and is under club control for two more seasons after this one. Not that any of that makes him an untouchable (or even a Brahmin) but if you're of a mind to move on from Td'A I hope you have something other than 'more R Rivera' or 'hopefully Plawecki' as a backup plan.
  12. Reyes steals 2nd base for the second time tonight.
  13. The other upshot of this ragged inning is that it blew any chance of being a sub-2:30 game Those are rare enough these days but are extra welcoming in west coast affairs.
  14. C'mon Addison, don't blow a) this game or your trade value
  15. This game seems like it should be more lopsided than just a 4-run lead for the Mets ... and now here it is down to a 3 run lead with [crossout:14troqmp]7[/crossout:14troqmp] 6 outs still to get.
  16. Bart, who hinted at retirement if this game didn't go well, and has his job on the line anyway now that the Twins have imported Jamie Garcia, started tonight's game vs the Dodgers with 4 scoreless innings but then allowed back-to-back shots to start the 5th and then another run after that. 3-3 game in the 6th in LA; 3 runs on 8 hits thru 5 for Bartolo.
  17. If your name is going to be Dusty Coleman, shouldn't you spell it Dusty Coalman?
  18. NYM bats woke tonight to the sound of thunder (see what I did there?)
  19. And if you can't tell their hitters without a scorecard, knowing their pitchers just got more complicated as well as the Padres and Royals just swapped multiple hurlers: Padres get: (currently DL'd RHR) Matt Strahm, (LHR) Travis Wood, and Minor League IF prospect Esteury Ruiz in exchange for [u:1jipfl9d]Ryan Buchter[/u:1jipfl9d], [u:1jipfl9d]Trevor Cahill[/u:1jipfl9d] and [u:1jipfl9d]Brandon Maurer[/u:1jipfl9d] Cahill had been slated to start against us in Wednesday's game. Maurer had been their most recent closer, Buchter a lefty set-up man.
  20. The rumored/then shot-down deal of Jaime Garcia to the Twins is now a done deal as the Braves send the lefty starter along with one Mr. Anthony Recker to get back 19 y/o minor league pitcher Huascar Ynoa Garcia was supposed to be dealt to Minnesota last week, the Braves even brought a stand-by pitcher to their west coast trip to replace Garcia if and when it went down. But when the deal fell through Garcia made his start against the Dodgers where he not only out-pitched the previously unbeaten (ex-Brave) Alex Wood but he also Grand-Slammed against him! Turns out now that was Garcia's last start for the Cobb County squad. The Braves, btw, split the four game set in LA over the weekend. The Dodgers had won 11 straight and 31 of 35 heading into that series but got smoked in the first two games. And even in Sunday's loss the Braves scored three times in the 9th vs closer Jansen to tie it before later losing the game in extras. That's a helluva lot better than we did when we were out there.

  22. ... trying to kill our out of the pennant race blues The final left coast trip of the year, so our games for the next week and a half have starting times of: 10:10, 10:10, 10:10, 9:10, 10:10, 4:10, 4:10, Off-Day, 8:40, 8:40, 3:10. Enjoy! This is of course also a trip that will straddle the trade deadline, one which we all expect is going to bring around at least some moves. And just think about how conveniently close the replacements from Las Vegas will be!! SD: 43 - 55. DFL in the NL in RS, 3rd worse (just ahead of us) at preventing runs but are in the midst of a winning July (10-8) and are coming off taking 3 of 4 from the Giants We kick it off on Monday with deGrom vs Clayton Richard Richard is 34 y/o ex-Cub, ex-ChiSox who is on his second go-around with the SD Fathers TL/BL; 20 starts; 10-10; 5.35 ERA; 1.60 WHiP. We did not face him at CitiField back in May. We lost 2 of 3 in that series.
  23. So for the "extraordinary improvement" (or however he put it) that Sandy said he needed: the so-far 6 - 4 post-ASB record likely wasn't what he had in mind. They needed at least 7-3 and probably more like 8-2 in order to stave off a sell-off. Today was the last home game prior to the deadline. Several of the guys heading west almost certainly aren't coming back ... at least not on the same plane or with the same group.
  24. CitiField Sundays in 2017 = 2 - 7 record; RA/RS = 62 / 26

I'll be returning on July 24, so we're going to get a little backed up for about a week after the All-Star Break.
